Based on the panel data of 20,594 fourth- and fifth-grade students in the western provinces A and B in China, this paper analyzed the effect of boarding at school on the mental health of students using a combination of the propensity score matching (PSM) and difference-in-differences (DID) methods. The results showed that boarding had no significant effect on the mental health of students, but the tendency of loneliness among boarding school students was increased. Heterogeneity analysis found that fifth-grade students whose parents had both left home to work were more likely to have poorer mental health when boarding. This paper has essential policy significance for guiding rural primary schools to improve the mental health of boarding school students, especially left-behind children.

This research is motivated by the importance of mathematical reasoning abilities for primary school students. This research aims at looking at the effect of the Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract (CPA) approach on the enhancement of mathematical reasoning abilities of primary school students. This research method is a quasi-experiment with pre-test and post-test control group design in Mathematics subjects with the theme of data presentation. The research sample consisted of 121 fifth grade students in two primary schools in Bekasi Regency. The test and non-test instruments were involved in this research. The results revealed that there wasthe influence between the CPA approach and students' mathematical reasoning abilities, and the achievement and enhancement of mathematical reasoning abilities of students who got learning with the CPA approach werebetter than students who got conventional learning based on all student review and a category of Prior Mathematical Ability (PMA) high, moderate and low. In conclusion, the mathematical reasoning ability of primary school students can be improved by applying the CPA approach.

This article describes the psychological foundations of conducting a formative experiment on the development of coherent speech in children with simultaneous visual and mental pathologies, or in other words, children with complex sensory-mental disorders. The goal of this work is to determine the stages of correctional work of the formative experiment on the development of coherent speech in children with complex visual and mental disabilities. The subject of this research is the process of psychological-pedagogical impact reflected in the process of correctional work on the development of coherent speech among primary school students with visual and mental disabilities. The object of this research is the primary school students of 3rd and 4th grade with complex visual and mental disabilities of various severity in a boarding school for children with visual impairments. The scientific novelty of this research consists in optimization of activity of a pedagogue specializing in the development different types of coherent speech – dialogues, conversations and stories based on the picture among primary school students with sensory-mental disorders, which is of particular importance for school practice as it indicates the techniques for improving the quality of their speech and their social adaptation in the society. The author also underlines the importance of such work with children for fulfilling their personal potential in the context of the requirements of the principle of social justice. Accuracy of acquired results is defined by substantiation of the initial theoretical and methodological positions; comprehensive application of theoretical and empirical methods adequate to the object, subject, goals and objectives of the research, long-term practical activity of the author dedicated to the development of coherent oral speech in primary schools students n with visual and mental disabilities.

One aspect of environmental literacy is that there is an action from someone who is trying to reduce environmental pollution. For primary school students, this effort can be done by processing dry waste into useful items. Processed garbage can be made into scraps that sell for sale or just simple handicrafts. This research was aimed at developing environmental literacy through the use of scraps in primary schools. The research employed a quantitative approach with quasy experimental method. The sample of the research was fifth grade primary school students who were randomly selected. Then the data collection techniques were conducted with the cognitive tests, practice, and attitude questionnaires. Meanwhile, data analysis process employed the inference statistics. The results showed that the activity of utilizing scrap affected the environmental literacy of the students. The aspect that experienced a quite good change was the performance aspect in the form of carrying out used scrap activities. Therefore, the use of scraps could be an effort to build the environmental literacy of primary school students.

This research was primarily carried out to prove that the implementation of Talking Stick method could improve students’ English speaking skill and to describe the students’ responses to the implementation of Talking Stick method in the learning teaching processes of English speaking skill. This research is Classroom Action Research (henceforth, CAR) which was carried out in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of four meetings. The research subject of this CAR are the fifth grade students of State Primary School 028226 Binjai Class V-1 in the Academic Year of 2019/2020. There are 33 students as the research subject. The analysis of quantitative data showed that the students’ mean score increased continually from 55,63 in the pretest, 66,36 in the posttest of cycle 1, to 76,81 in the posttest of cycle 2. The analysis of qualitative data showed that the learning teaching processes of English speaking skill through the implementation of Talking Stick method ran very well. The students were more active, and motivated to learn English speaking skill. The class atmosphere was more alive and enjoyable after Talking Stick method was implemented in the English speaking classes. It is advisable that English teachers of primary school students apply Talking Stick method as one of alternatives to improve their students’ English speaking skill.

To explore the impact of academic burden on the physical and mental health of primary school students, combined with the results of the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) report in 2018, the relationship among the development of mathematical literacy, mathematics academic burden, and the physical and mental health of primary school students is studied. First, the relationship between mathematical literacy and mathematics anxiety is analyzed, and related influencing factors and measurement methods of mathematics anxiety are introduced. A questionnaire is then designed for primary school students’ mathematical stress, and the reliability and validity of the designed questionnaire are tested. Finally, a questionnaire survey is conducted on students, parents, and teachers in the third, fourth, and fifth grades of three standardized public primary schools. The results of the questionnaire survey show that students, teachers, and parents have a general understanding of the mathematics academic burden of primary school students at this stage. A total of 70% of teachers believe that primary school students have a heavy mathematics burden; 50% of parents think that primary school students are under heavy academic stress; 70% of primary school students believe that the heavy mathematics burden leads to reduced sleep time and extracurricular activities, which has a serious impact on the physical and mental health of primary school students. This research provides a reference for improving the current balance between education and students’ physical and mental health in China.

This paper presents and outlines the design and implementation of a pilot program based on activities of dramatization of children literary books aiming at developing language skills of primary school students in English as a foreign language, participating in interactive, drama play and creative activities This project was implemented to students of the fifth grade of primary schools of Larissa (Greece) in a sample of 15 students. The collaboration, creativity, and the engagement with English literature were the main features of the program. The learning environment of the program was either the municipal center of creativity “Kalikatzoura Pasalidou” or the municipal gym. When the center of creativity was the place of learning, students analyzed the English children’s literature books, achieving the acquisition of the new vocabulary and participating in creative writing activities. When the municipal gym was the place of instruction, students participated in activities of performing theatrical plays developing spoken language and intonation of the words. The evaluation and feasibility of the program has been realized through a) a pre- and a post - test and b) by keeping a Journal by the teacher. It became so obvious that the particular application had a beneficial effect on the development of speaking and writing skills of learners and enhanced their motivation to participate in drama activities.

The aim of this study was to identify the factors associated with school refusal behavior in primary school students. Student’s self-report and teacher’s measures were implemented; and students were recruited from 20 primary schools in six districts in Selangor, Malaysia. The survey was conducted at the end of school term in 2016, with a total of 915 students from Year 4 and Year 5 participating. The sample of students had been absent from school for more than 15% of school days in the current year. Pearson correlation shows a significant relationship between academic achievement and school satisfaction toward school refusal behavior. The findings of this study suggest that academic difficulties and dissatisfaction towards school environment could be the important risk factors for school refusal behavior. The present study underscores the importance of early detection and intervention as measures to reduce school refusal. Finally, the findings imply that the role of school factors should always be taken into account in connection with school refusal behaviour.
