This cross-sectional study aimed to estimate the prevalence of obesity and its association with diabetes and hypertension among beneficiaries in the National Guard Health Affairs system of Saudi Arabia. We included individuals aged 17 years and older, and patients were classified as diabetic or hypertensive if they had any visit during the 4 years where the primary diagnosis was one of those conditions or they were taking diabetes or hypertension medications. The association between obesity (body mass index ≥30) and diabetes and hypertension were evaluated using a multiple logistic regression model, adjusting for age, gender, nationality, and region. A total of 616,092 individuals were included. The majority were Saudi nationals (93.1%). Approximately 68% of the population were either obese (38.9%) or overweight (29.30%). Obesity was more prevalent among Saudi nationals (39.8% vs. 26.7%, p < 0.01) and females (45.3% vs. 31.2%, p < 0.01). Obesity was independently associated with diabetes mellitus (OR = 2.24, p < 0.01) and hypertension (OR = 2.15, p < 0.01). The prevalence of obesity in the study population was alarming and more pronounced among women. Our findings call for efforts to intensify preventive measures to reduce obesity and associated conditions. Using electronic records to examine the impact of interventions to reduce obesity and chronic conditions may help monitor and improve population health.

Background/Aim. Acne is a common problem in adolescent children with considerable emotional and psychological effects. The aim of this study was to determine the self-reported prevalence of acne and to assess its impact on the quality of life in high school pupils in Serbia. Methods. The cross-sectional study was conducted in May 2011 in two medical high schools in Serbia. Only pupils who gave a written informed consent to participate in the study (n = 440) were asked to fill in two questionnaires: short demographic questionnaire and Cardiff Acne Disability Index (CADI), a disease-specific questionnaire measuring disability induced by acne. Internal consistency (tested by Cronbach?s alpha) and item-total score correlations (Spearman's correlation analysis) were used for reliability analyses. Results. The study population consisted of 440 pupils, 281 from Belgrade and 159 from Uzice. Among them 371 (84.3%) were girls and 69 (15.7%) boys, with similar sex distribution in Belgrade and Uzice. The total mean age of pupils was 16.48 years (SD = 0.55). Out of 440 pupils 228 (51.8%) self-reported their acne. The acne prevalence was significantly higher in pupils from Uzice (73.6%) than in those from Belgrade (39.6%). The overall mean CADI score for the whole sample was 2.87 ? 2.74, with the similar quality of life impairment in adolescents from Belgrade and from Uzice. The mean Cronbach?s alpha was 0.82. Conclusion. This study shows that the quality of life impairment due to acne is mild for the majority of the affected pupils. The Serbian version of the CADI is a reliable, valid, and valuable tool for assessing the impact of acne on the quality of life.

ABSTRACTCervical cancer was non communicable desease that worries the public and causes an increase mortality in women. One of the first sign causes of cervical cancer is occourrence of Leucorrhoe. The incidence of Leucorrhoe in women Indonesia by 90% of which >75% of women experience once of leucorrhoe and experience ≥ 2 times by 25%. Leucorrhoe should not be considered an ordinary thing because can be caused to itchy on genetalia, pain during sexsual, infection can be caused odema on genetalia, hot like burned on vagina even the impact if not treated promptly will caused infertility and cancer. Aims of study was to analyze factors of influenced on Leucorrhoe incident. Design of study was cross sectional study. Population was women of childbearing age who use contraceptives in the karang jeruk village, Jatirejo sub district, Mojokerto district in March of 2017. Sample in this study was 33 people. Data analyze with logistic regresion. Result of study showed contraceptive and sexsual activity has significant influenced with leucorrhoe (PR = 10.000; 95% CI= 1,732-57,722 dan PR=8,750; 95% CI=1,466-52,232). Suggestion: should be married and have first sexual intercourse for the first time at the age of ≥ 20 years, limit the number of children not more than 2 as the greater the number of children the greater the risk of Leucorrhoe, and not using hormonal contraception for a along time that more than 2 years. Keywords: contraceptive, sexsual activity, leucorrhoe

Abstract Purpose The impact of malignant melanoma (MM) on patients’ psychophysical well-being has been poorly addressed. We aimed to assess the perceived burden in patients with a diagnosis of MM, using two different tools, one generic and one specific for MM, such as Pictorial Representation of Illness and Self Measure (PRISM) and Melanoma Concerns Questionnaire (MCQ-28), respectively. The correlation between PRISM and MCQ-28 subscales and the relevance of disease and patient-related variables were also investigated. Methods This single-centre, cross-sectional study included all adult consecutive MM patients who attended our Dermatology Unit from December 2020 to June 2021. Demographics and disease-related data were recorded. PRISM and MCQ-28 were administered. Results One hundred and seventy-one patients were included (mean age: 59.5 ±14.9 years.; 48.0% males). Median time from MM diagnosis to inclusion was 36 months. Nearly 80% of the patients had in situ or stage I MM. Overall, 22.2% of the patients reported a PRISM score <100mm and similar percentages provided scores indicating impaired quality of life, as assessed with MCQ-28 subscales. A weak, albeit significant, correlation was found between PRISM scores and ACP, CON and SOC2 subscales. The most relevant association found was that between lower PRISM scores and higher-stage MM. Conclusions In the study population, mostly affected with superficial MM, their perception of the burden associated with MM did not appear either particularly dramatic or disabling. PRISM seems a reliable system for capturing and quantifying the domains correlated with the emotive dimension of MM, especially MM-related concerns and willingness to face life

Background: Respiratory symptoms are a characteristic feature present in covid-19 patients, and they usually range from mild to severe. Asthma is a chronic disease involving the airways that carry air in and out of the lungs. However, there is limited resources that discuss the relation between asthma and prevalence of COVID-19. Aims: Identify the impact of covid19 on asthmatic patients. Methodology: This is a descriptive cross-sectional study that was conducted to study the impact of COVID-19 on asthmatic patients, which was conducted using a prepared questionnaire which was distributed online among 300 patients with asthma. After collecting the data, MS Excel was used for data entry while SPSS version 24 was used for data analysis. Results: In this study, we were able to collect data from 311 asthmatic patients in response to our questionnaire. Most of the asthmatic patients were females (67.2%) with a ratio of females: males of 2:1. Moreover, most patients thought that they control their asthma well and only 13.5 % indicated that they had frequent emergency visits because of asthma. The prevalence of COVID-19 in asthmatic patients was 64.3 % where a third of patients needed to go to hospital because of their bad condition, 12.6 % needed to be hospitalized in ICU and 56.4 % needed oxygen. Moreover, severity of COVID-19 symptoms and outcomes are related to the control of asthma where better control of asthma was associated with better outcomes including lower need for ICU admission and oxygen need. Conclusion: Prevalence of COVID-19 in asthmatic patients was much higher than the general population especially in female patients aged between 31-40 years old. Moreover, COVID-19 had more severe outcomes in asthmatic patients including higher prevalence of ICU admission and oxygen need. Poorer outcomes of COVID-19 were associated with poor control of asthma. Key words: Asthma, Covid-19, Western Region, Saudi Arabia

ObjectiveTo (1) examine the burden of multiple chronic conditions (MCC) in an urban health system, and (2) propose a methodology to identify subpopulations of interest based on diagnosis groups and costs.DesignRetrospective cross-sectional study.SettingMount Sinai Health System, set in all five boroughs of New York City, USA.Participants192 085 adult (18+) plan members of capitated Medicaid contracts between the Healthfirst managed care organisation and the Mount Sinai Health System in the years 2012 to 2014.MethodsWe classified adults as having 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5+ chronic conditions from a list of 69 chronic conditions. After summarising the demographics, geography and prevalence of MCC within this population, we then described groups of patients (segments) using a novel methodology: we combinatorially defined 18 768 potential segments of patients by a pair of chronic conditions, a sex and an age group, and then ranked segments by (1) frequency, (2) cost and (3) ratios of observed to expected frequencies of co-occurring chronic conditions. We then compiled pairs of conditions that occur more frequently together than otherwise expected.Results61.5% of the study population suffers from two or more chronic conditions. The most frequent dyad was hypertension and hyperlipidaemia (19%) and the most frequent triad was diabetes, hypertension and hyperlipidaemia (10%). Women aged 50 to 65 with hypertension and hyperlipidaemia were the leading cost segment in the study population. Costs and prevalence of MCC increase with number of conditions and age. The disease dyads associated with the largest observed/expected ratios were pulmonary disease and myocardial infarction. Inter-borough range MCC prevalence was 16%.ConclusionsIn this low-income, urban population, MCC is more prevalent (61%) than nationally (42%), motivating further research and intervention in this population. By identifying potential target populations in an interpretable manner, this segmenting methodology has utility for health services analysts.

BACKGROUND Excessive use of various electronic entertainment and communication devices, particularly among children, has been associated with increased behavioral problems. Despite children’s escalating use of these devices, parents’ awareness about the impact thereof is still lacking. OBJECTIVE The objective of this study was to assess the use of electronic entertainment and communication devices among children attending a health care facility in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, as well as the parental impression regarding the impact of electronic devices use on the behavior of their child. METHODS A focused 15-item questionnaire was designed for this cross-sectional study involving mothers of children attending the Well Baby Clinic of King Abdulaziz University Hospital, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia from July 1, 2016 to November 30, 2016. RESULTS This study included 190 mothers. The mean ages of the children, mothers, and fathers were 7.3 (SD 3.5), 35 (SD 6.5), and 43 (SD 8.3) years, respectively. Most children were of Saudi Arabian nationality (106/190, 55.8%). The most used device in this study was television (154/190, 81.0%), followed by mobile phones (134/190, 70.5%), and tablets (116/190, 61.0%). Computers were the least used device in this study (59/190, 31.0%). In total, 24.7% (47/190) of children in this study used electronic entertainment and communication devices for more than 4 hours per day. Most mothers (129/190, 67.9%) felt that their child spends too much time on electronic devices. Hyperactivity or behavioral problems were reported by 20.0% (38/190) of mothers in this study. Children spending longer hours on electronic devices were much more likely to be perceived to suffer from hyperactivity or behavioral problems (P=.01). CONCLUSIONS Parental awareness is necessary to counteract the harmful effects of using electronic devices for a prolonged period. Parents require help to cope with this problem effectively.

BACKGROUND & AIM: Insufficient knowledge and practice of breastfeeding may have serious disadvantages both on mother and child health. This study explores methods used in MCH based breastfeeding awareness program, level of benefit gained by newly delivered mothers after receiving the awareness, and the impact of mother’s sociodemographic on the level of perceived benefit gained by them. SUBJECTS & METHODS: A prospective cross-sectional study applying random sampling technique was established. A self-administered questionnaire was distributed targeting newly delivered mother in maternal and child hospital in Al-Hassa, Saudi Arabia. It included two main parts: socio-demographic characteristics of the mothers, and questions related to the hospital breastfeeding awareness program. RESULTS: from the overall sample, hospital awareness was received by 47.5% of newly delivered mothers. The most common method to provide the knowledge was the Verbal demonstration representing 50% of the mothers. They were followed by brochures representing 39% and last, audios constituting only 3.6%. From these methods, the verbal demonstration showed to be the one with the highest level of satisfaction and benefit reaching up to 85%. CONCLUSION: Breastfeeding awareness has a significant impact among both newly and non-newly delivered mothers with Hospitals playing a major role in this health education. The choice of method to provide breastfeeding awareness can contribute to the compliance of mothers as well as the level of their benefit and satisfaction.

Background: Reports of prevalence rates of depression in postmenopause show inconsistent results, with some studies demonstrating an increase in depressive symptoms whereas others show a decrease or no difference. Objectives: To estimate the prevalence and define some risk factors of depression in postmenopausal women aged 45-65 years in primary health care settings in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Subjects and Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted throughout the period June-August, 2018 at King Abdul Aziz Medical City-National Guard (KAMC-NG) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in three large primary care centers. It included a sample of postmenopausal women who completed at least 12 months of amenorrhea and aged between 45 and 65 years. The Arabic version of PHQ-9 was utilized to detect depression and Menopausal rating scale (MRS) was used to assess the severity of menopausal symptoms. Results: The study included 300 women. The prevalence of major depressive symptoms among them was 29%. More than half (60.7%) of the respondents had moderate social support, three quarters (75%) scored mild to severe symptoms on the menopausal rating scale while 25% were asymptomatic.Women who were: unmarried (84.2%), housewives (79.2%), illiterate (83.2%), menopaused since≥10 years (87.5%), having more than five children (81.4%), underwent oophorectomy (100%), with poor social support (93.9%) and never exercised (82.4%) were more likely to report mild to severe symptoms. Also, significantly higher percentages of participants who have hypertension (81.9%), diabetes (82.1%), Dyslipedemia (88.1%) and hypothyroidism (81.4 %) experienced mild to severe menopausal symptoms, p<0.05. The degree of severity on the PHQ has strong significant (P<0.001) correlation with marital status, employment status, educational level and income. Conclusion: Depression is a relatively common disorder among postmenopausal women in Riyadh. Some sociodemographic indicators were identified. Care should be paid to this important group and further larger studies are recommended.

In 2020, the number of deaths increased in Italy, mainly because of the COVID-19 pandemic; mortality was among the highest in Europe, with a clear heterogeneity among regions and socio-demographic strata. The present work aims to describe trends in mortality and to quantify excess mortality variability over time and in relation to demographics, pre-existent chronic conditions and care setting of the Emilia-Romagna region (Northern Italy). This is a registry-based cross-sectional study comparing the 2020 observed mortality with figures of the previous five years by age, sex, month, place of death, and chronicity. It includes 300,094 deaths in those 18 years of age and above resident in the Emilia-Romagna region. Excess deaths were higher during the first pandemic wave, particularly among men and in March. Age-adjusted risk was similar among both men and women (Mortality Rate Ratio 1.15; IC95% 1.14–1.16). It was higher among females aged 75+ years and varied between sub-periods. Excluding COVID-19 related deaths, differences in the risk of dying estimates tended to disappear. Metabolic and neuropsychiatric diseases were more prevalent among those that deceased in 2020 compared to the deaths that occurred in 2015–2019 and therefore can be confirmed as elements of increased frailty, such as being in long-term care facilities or private homes as the place of death. Understanding the impact of the pandemic on mortality considering frailties is relevant in a changing scenario.
