This study investigates the behavior of cast-in-situ masonry cavity walls subjected to in-plane quasi-static loading. Thirteen cast-in-situ masonry cavity walls and one solid wall were tested under combined axial and quasi-static lateral loads. Test parameters included the tie shape, tie layout, thickness of the insulating layer, and the level of axial compression. The problems related to shear capacity and failure mechanisms of cast-in-situ masonry cavity walls were analyzed. Experimental results indicate that failure of most wall specimens occurred via crushing at corners, accompanied by flexural and diagonal cracks in the inner leaves. The shape and layout of the ties had a limited effect on the shear strength of cast-in-situ masonry cavity walls, while axial compression had a positive influence on shear strength. The relative displacement between the inner and outer leaves was nearly zero before walls cracked and reached less than 2 mm at the ultimate load. The shape and layout of the ties had a slight influence on the coordination of inner and outer leaves, while the insulating layer thickness and axial compression had a negative effect. Hysteretic loops under quasi-static loading were spindle-like, and wall specimens exhibited large nonlinear deformation capacity, indicating adequate aseismic capability. A new formula for calculating the shear capacity of the cast-in-situ cavity masonry walls was proposed and was demonstrated to be accurate.

The shear behaviors of steel reinforced high strength and high performance concrete (SRHSHPC) composite frame columns are studied through the test on a number of SRHSHPC specimens with grade of concrete strength varied from C80 to C120 subjected to constant axial compression and cyclically varying horizontal load. Four influencing factors, namely, shear span ratio, axial compression ratio, stirrup ratio and concrete strength, are taken into consideration in the test, and strain gauges are respectively placed on steel web, stirrups as well as reinforcement bars to study the shear mechanism of SRHSHPC composite columns. According to test results, the shear failure patterns and shear mechanism of the specimens are discussed. By analyzing the contribution of the steel web, concrete, stirrups and reinforcement bars to the shear capacity, the shear mechanism of the SRHSHPC composite columns is figured out. Therefore, the influence of shear span ratio, axial compression ratio, stirrup ratios and concrete strength on shear behaviors of the SRHSHPC frame columns is clear. Finally, concrete truss model and principle of accumulation are applied to discuss the shear capacity and a calculation model for shear strength of the SRHSHPC composite columns is established. It is indicated that the shear behaviors of the SRHSHPC frame composite columns are excellent, and the calculated results of shear strength have good conformity with test results.

<div class="WordSection1"><p align="center"> </p><p><em>This study aims to analyze the influence of hedonism and religiosity on the consumptive behavior of students at the Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business, State Islamic Institute of Bukittinggi, West Sumatera, Indonesia. The population in this studi was 3,900 students and the sample was 363 of them that were selected by using the cluster sampling techniques. The results showed that hedonism has a positive influence on the consumptive behavior of students, it means that the higher of the level of hedonism, the higher the consumptive behavior of students. Meanwhile, religiosity was found to have the negative effect on the consumptive behavior of students, its meant that  the higher the level of religious students, the lower the consumptive behavior of students, this study suggests that hedonism and religiosity explain variations in student consumer behavior by 64.5%, while the remaining 35.5% % is explained by other variables not explored in this study. This finding shows that to manage consumption properly, students must control their hedonism and increase their level of religiosity so that they will far from consumptive habits.</em></p><p> </p></div><p align="center"><strong><br clear="all" /></strong></p>

A comprehensive study of the shear characteristics of steel fiber reinforced recycled concrete-filled steel tube (SRCFST) columns is conducted. 50 CFST stub columns are tested with the variables of steel tube diameter-thickness ratio ( D/t), shear span-to-depth ratio (λ), axial compression ratio ( n), and concrete mix. Two types of cements, three recycled aggregate percentages, three water-cement ratios, and three steel fiber contents are considered in design of concrete mixes. The experimental results show that SRCFST columns present the coincident shear behavior of the ordinary CFST columns. As λ is increased, shear resistance shows a downtrend, while the flexural strength presents an increasing trend. Imposing axial compression or thickening steel tube contributes to an adequate safety margin in plastic period. Based on the contributions superposition method, a predicted model of the shear capacity of SRCFST columns is proposed in consideration of shear-span ratio, axial compression, and self-stress.

The number of high-rise buildings has greatly increased in Korea, and storey height is a significant component of tall residential buildings due to the limited city area. To reduce storey height, the wide beam has been adopted in some projects in Seoul such as Trump World, Galleria Palace, and Richencia. The joints between the wide beam and the core wall were too narrow to place the reinforcement, however. This paper investigates a newly developed structural system called the innovative, technical, economical, and convenient hybrid system (iTECH system). The iTECH system has an asymmetric steel assembly with web openings, where the top plate is welded on top of inverted structural "tees" whose cut is referred to as a "honeycomb" type. Both sides of the web and the slab are filled with cast-in-place concrete. The shear capacity was experimentally evaluated and verified, with parameters determined by factors that shared the shear strength of the iTECH beam. The steel web, inner concrete panel, and outer concrete panel contributed to the shear strength of the iTECH beam. The shear stirrup did not contribute much to the shear strength, however, and therefore a design equation using the steel web and inner concrete panel was suggested.Key words: composite beam, shear capacity, monotonic test, high-rise building.

One of the greatest drawbacks to predicting the behaviour of bonded joints has been the lack of reliable data on the mechanical properties of adhesives. In this study, methods for determining mechanical properties of structural adhesive were discussed. The Young’s modulus, Poisson’s ratio and tensile strength of the adhesive were tested by dogbone specimens (bulk form) and butt joint specimens (in situ form). The shear modulus and shear strength were test by V-notched specimens (bulk form) and thick adherend lap-shear (TALS) joint specimens (in situ form). The test results show that the elastic modulus provided by the manufacturer is too low, the dogbone specimen is better than the butt joint specimen to test the tensile strength and elastic modulus and the TALS joint specimen is better than the V-notched specimen to test the shear strength.

Previous research showed that the experience of high work pressure can lead to fatigue and even to health complaints on the long term. This makes it very important, especially for people who experience high work pressure, to take sufficient time to recover after work. Sleep quality has a positive influence on recovery. The aim of this diary study was to investigate whether sleep quality has a mediating effect on the relationship between work pressure and recovery. Seventy-six people took part in the study and answered questions about work, recovery and sleep for 14 days. Results showed that work pressure indeed had a negative effect on recovery and sleep quality. Furthermore, we found a partial mediation effect: sleep quality mediated the relationship between work pressure and recovery. These results stress the importance of recovery and sleep quality, especially for people who experience high work pressure.

An in-situ, catalyst-free method for synthesizing 3C-SiC ceramic nanowires (SiCNWs) inside carbon–carbon (C/C) composites was successfully achieved. Obtained samples in different stages were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and Raman scattering spectroscopy. Results demonstrated that the combination of sol-gel impregnation and carbothermal reduction was an efficient method for in-situ SiCNW synthesis, inside C/C composites. Thermal properties and mechanical behaviors—including out-of-plane and in-plane compressive strengths, as well as interlaminar shear strength (ILLS) of SiCNW modified C/C composites—were investigated. By introducing SiCNWs, the initial oxidation temperature of C/C was increased remarkably. Meanwhile, out-of-plane and in-plane compressive strengths, as well as interlaminar shear strength (ILLS) of C/C composites were increased by 249.3%, 109.2%, and 190.0%, respectively. This significant improvement resulted from simultaneous reinforcement between the fiber/matrix (F/M) and matrix/matrix (M/M) interfaces, based on analysis of the fracture mechanism.

Background: Although self-expressive creativity is related to cyberbullying, it can also reinforce strengths that contribute to positive adolescent development. Our study concentrated on the relationships between personality traits and self-expressive creativity in the digital domain in an adolescent population. For this, we analyzed the effect of self-esteem and emotional intelligence as assets for positive development related to personality traits and self-expressive creativity. Methods: The study population included a total of 742 adolescents that were high-school students in the province of Almería, Spain. The following instruments were used: Big Five Inventory (BFI) to evaluate the five broad personality factors, Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSE), Expression, Management, and Emotion Recognition Evaluation Scale (TMMS-24), and the Creative Behavior Questionnaire: Digital (CBQD). Results: The cluster analysis revealed the existence of two profiles of adolescents based on their personality traits. The analysis showed that the group with the highest levels of extraversion and openness to experience and lowest levels of neuroticism were those who showed the highest scores in self-esteem, clarity, and emotional repair, as well as in self-expressive creativity. Higher scores in neuroticism and lower scores in extraversion and openness to experience showed a direct negative effect on self-expressive creativity and indirect effect through self-esteem and emotional attention, which acted as mediators in series. Conclusions: To counteract certain characteristics that increase adolescents’ vulnerability to social network bullying, a plan must be developed for adequate positive use of the Internet from a creative model that enables digital self-expression for acquiring identity and self-efficacy through the positive influence of peers, which promotes feelings of empowerment and self-affirmation through constructive tasks that reinforce self-esteem and emotional intelligence.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of fiber reinforcement on the shear capacity of reinforced concrete (RC) beams. Both steel and synthetic fibers at variable volume fractions were investigated. Two series of tests were performed: structural tests, where RC beams were tested to failure under an applied four-point load; and materials tests, where companion fiber-reinforced concrete (FRC) prisms were tested under direct shear to obtain material properties such as shear strength and shear toughness. FRC test results indicated an almost linear increase in the shear strength of concrete with an increase in the fiber volume fraction. Fiber reinforcement enhanced the shear load capacity and shear deformation capacity of RC beams, but 1% fiber volume fraction was seen as optimal; no benefits were noted when the fiber volume fraction was increased beyond 1%. Finally, an equation is proposed to predict the shear capacity of RC beams.Key words: shear strength, fiber-reinforced concrete, RC beam, stirrups, energy absorption capacity, steel fiber, synthetic fiber.
