One analytical design problem involves constructing control laws for marine autopilot systems. Despite numerous known solutions, this problem can still be further developed by taking into account the actual conditions of the control system operation. An important issue for discussion is the feedback synthesis for marine ships with time delays in their rudders’ actuators. In this work, a new approach is proposed for providing all the desirable dynamic features of a closed-loop system with autopilot while taking into account the presence of a time delay. This approach is based on the predictive compensation of time delays via the specific transformation of an initially given reference controller with a special multipurpose structure. The applicability and effectiveness of the proposed method is further illustrated by a practical example of a controller design.

Direct synthesis controller design approach has serious limitations when it is applied to plant models that have more complex models and models involving time delays. In such cases the design becomes more cumbersome and the time delay appears in the denominator making it difficult to realize. In order to get simple realizable controllers approximations of plant model and time delays are done. This leads to controllers with non-optimal parameters. In this paper, a new approach for designing the controller by combining direct synthesis approach and system identification is presented. The controller is identified from the plant model and the desired closed-loop without the need for approximating the plant model and the time delay and ensures that the controller parameters are optimal.

In this paper, a loop shaping controller design methodology for single input and a single output (SISO) system is proposed. The theoretical background for this approach is based on complex elliptic functions which allow a flexible design of a SISO controller considering that elliptic functions have a double periodicity. The gain and phase margins of the closed-loop system can be selected appropriately with this new loop shaping design procedure. The loop shaping design methodology consists of implementing suitable filters to obtain a desired frequency response of the closed-loop system by selecting appropriate poles and zeros by the Abel theorem that are fundamental in the theory of the elliptic functions. The elliptic function properties are implemented to facilitate the loop shaping controller design along with their fundamental background and contributions from the complex analysis that are very useful in the automatic control field. Finally, apart from the filter design, a PID controller loop shaping synthesis is proposed implementing a similar design procedure as the first part of this study.

In view of parameter uncertainty in the magnetic levitation system, the adaptive controller design problem is investigated for the system. Nonlinear adaptive controller based on backstepping is proposed for the design of the actual system with parameter uncertainty. The controller can estimate the uncertainty parameter online so as to improve control accuracy. Theoretical analysis shows that the closed-loop system is stable regardless of parameter uncertainty. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the presented method.

This paper is concerned with the problem of finite-time dissipative control for networked control systems by hybrid triggered scheme. In order to save network resources, a hybrid triggered scheme is proposed, which consists of time-triggered scheme and event-triggered scheme simultaneously. Firstly, sufficient conditions are derived to guarantee that the closed-loop system is finite-time bounded (FTBD) and [Formula: see text] dissipative. Secondly, the corresponding controller design approach is presented based on the derived conditions. Finally, a numerical example is presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

It is presented a model of uncertain time-delay switched fuzzy systems, which each subsystem of switched system is an uncertain time-delay fuzzy system. The robust reliable control problem is studied by multi-Lyapunov functions. When the actuators are serious failure – the residual part of actuators can not make original system stability, using switching technique depend on the states of observers, robust fuzzy reliable controller is built to ensure the relevant closed-loop system is asymptotic stability. The results for example are used to illustrate the feasibility and the effectiveness of the method.

This paper presents a new approach for the robust control of vibration in a flexible structure in the presence of uncertain parameters and residual modes. The technique is based on the sliding mode control algorithm using direct output feedback and assumes that actuators and sensors are not collocated. The uncertainty matrix need not satisfy the invariance or matching conditions. The small gain theorem/μ analysis is applied to analyze the asymptotic behavior of the closed-loop system with parametric uncertainties inside boundary layers. The model of a flexible tetrahedral truss structure is used to conduct numerical verification of the theoretical analysis.

By introducing an additional vector, a new delay-dependent controller is designed for stochastic systems with time delay in this paper. The presented controller is formulated by means of LMI, and it guarantees robust asymptotical mean-square stability of the resulting closed-loop system. Our result shows advantage over some existing ones, which is demonstrated by a numerical example.

This paper presents a simple structure design for bilateral teleoperation systems with uncertainties in time delay in communication channel. The goal is to achieve complete transparency and robust stability for the closed-loop system. For transparency, two local controllers are designed for the bilateral teleoperation systems. One local controller is responsible for tracking the master commands, and the other one is in charge of force tracking as well as guaranteeing the stability of the closed-loop system in the presence of uncertainties in time delay. The stability analysis will be shown analytically for two cases: (I) the possibly stability and (II) the intrinsically stability. Moreover, in Case II, in order to generate the proper inputs for the master controller in the presence of uncertainties in time delay, an adaptive finite impulse response (FIR) filter is designed to estimate the time delay. The advantages of the proposed method are threefold: (1) stability of the closed-loop system is guaranteed under some mild conditions, (2) the whole system is transparent, and (3) design of the local controllers is simple. Simulation results show good performance of the proposed method.

This paper presents an active disturbance rejection control (ADRC) technique for load frequency control of a wind integrated power system when communication delays are considered. To improve the stability of frequency control, equivalent input disturbances (EID) compensation is used to eliminate the influence of the load variation. In wind integrated power systems, two area controllers are designed to guarantee the stability of the overall closed-loop system. First, a simplified frequency response model of the wind integrated time-delay power system was established. Then the state-space model of the closed-loop system was built by employing state observers. The system stability conditions and controller parameters can be solved by some linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) forms. Finally, the case studies were tested using MATLAB/SIMULINK software and the simulation results show its robustness and effectiveness to maintain power-system stability.
