The endocannabinoid system (ECS) has lately been proven to be an important, multifaceted homeostatic regulator, which influences a wide-variety of physiological processes all over the body. Its members, the endocannabinoids (eCBs; e.g., anandamide), the eCB-responsive receptors (e.g., CB1, CB2), as well as the complex enzyme and transporter apparatus involved in the metabolism of the ligands were shown to be expressed in several tissues, including the skin. Although the best studied functions over the ECS are related to the central nervous system and to immune processes, experimental efforts over the last two decades have unambiguously confirmed that cutaneous cannabinoid (“c[ut]annabinoid”) signaling is deeply involved in the maintenance of skin homeostasis, barrier formation and regeneration, and its dysregulation was implicated to contribute to several highly prevalent diseases and disorders, e.g., atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, scleroderma, acne, hair growth and pigmentation disorders, keratin diseases, various tumors, and itch. The current review aims to give an overview of the available skin-relevant endo- and phytocannabinoid literature with a special emphasis on the putative translational potential, and to highlight promising future research directions as well as existing challenges.

Purpose Although the handover stage is the key transition stage between the construction and operation, there is no critical overview of issues and research at the handover stage, hindering the achievement of sustainable development of buildings. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to review the building handover-related issues and research in construction and facility management (FM) journals. The specific objectives of this study include: analyze the research trends and overview the handover-related publications; identify the major research topics on the handover of buildings; identify research gaps and propose future research directions. Design/methodology/approach This study opted for a four-step systematic review of papers from the well-known academic journals in the construction and FM respects. Findings The results first revealed the increasing research interest in the handover of buildings from the researchers. Moreover, the post-construction defects, poor information fidelity, poor interoperability between building information modeling (BIM) and FM technologies, and insufficient consideration of end users were identified as the most concerned challenges for a building handover. Furthermore, identifying and formalizing information requirements for handover, improving the handover process, and improving the interoperability between BIM and FM were solutions mostly emphasized by researchers. Research limitations/implications As the first systematic review of building handover-related issues and research, this study is the building block for future research on this topic. The findings provide guidance for researchers in the construction and FM research community, and help them form useful collaboration for future research opportunities and find future research directions. Practical implications The identified significant challenges and potential solutions for a building handover could assist practitioners in making rational decisions on developing or adopting relevant technologies, and reshaping their management patterns and working processes. Moreover, the findings could be severed as evidence for policymakers to initiate policies, such as documents e-submission and timely updating BIMs, to achieve the vision of model-based project delivery. Originality/value This study contributed to the body of knowledge of sustainable development by providing a new insight to tackle the hindrance to the smooth transition from the construction to the operation.

Virtual reality (VR) is receiving enough attention to be regarded as a revival era and technologies related to the implementation of VR systems continue to evolve. VR systems are applied not only in entertainment but also in various fields such as medicine, rehabilitation, education, engineering, and military (Aïm, Lonjon, Hannouche, & Nizard, 2016; Howard, 2017; Lele, 2013). In particular, low-cost and immersive VR systems are commercialized to the general public, accelerating the revival of VR (Wang & Lindeman, 2015). In VR system, the research from the viewpoint of human–computer interaction and user experience (UX) is required to provide a high sense of immersion to the user. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to provide a structural methodology for classifying current VR researches and to review UX evaluation of VR systems systematically to identify research trends and to clarify future research directions. This study followed systematic review protocol of (PRISMA) (Liberati et al., 2009). To cover a broad spectrum of perspectives of engineering and medical fields, six web databases were selected: Scopus, Web of Science, Science direct, IEEE Xplore, EBSCO, and ProQuest. The main search keywords were virtual reality and user experience. These two words can be used in acronyms or other words. As a result, four and three words were chosen for virtual reality and user experience, respectively (‘virtual reality’, ‘virtual environment’, ‘VR,’ and ‘VE’ were chosen as keywords for virtual reality, ‘user experience’, ‘UX,’ and ‘human experience’). In addition, the journal articles in English were searched only. After the screening process was completed, final articles were selected based on the full-text. In this process, there were two essential selection conditions. The selected articles should use VR system and evaluate UX component. No restrictions other than these conditions were made. As a result, 78 articles were found to be consistent with the purpose of this study. As a result, there were two main points of discussion about UX studies in a VR system. The first is related to the implementation of equipment and technology including input devices, output devices, feedback forms, platforms, and applications. The other is related to research methods including user characteristics, interactions, and evaluation method. With respect to hand input devices, conventional input devices such as keyboards and game pads were used in many cases compared to trackable devices. However, as implementation techniques for natural interaction such as gesture recognition or real-time tracking of the body parts have been extensively developed, UX research needs to be conducted on VR systems that apply these techniques. In relation to feedback, stimuli other than visual stimuli were not frequently provided. Since providing multiple types of stimuli simultaneously may increase the user’s immersion and sense of reality, it is necessary to intensively study the effect of multi-sensory feedback in the future. In addition, there is a lack of academic research on CAVE and motion platforms. Though CAVE and motion platforms are difficult to set up for experimentation because they are expensive to build and require large space, there is a need to continually expand the UX research on this platform since the public will have more opportunities to access these platforms. Regarding research methods, most of the studies have focused on subjective measurements, quantitative research, laboratory experiments, and episode UX. To comprehensively understand the overall UX, it is necessary to conduct a qualitative study such as observation of subjects experiencing a VR system, think aloud, or deep interview with them, rather than evaluating UX only through a questionnaire. In addition, there was no case in which UX was evaluated in terms of momentary UX. However, there is a limit to evaluating the subjective measurement such as immersion, presence, and motion sickness during usage by directly asking the user, since the VR system provides an immersive environment to the user. Thus, behavioral characteristic or physiological signal of users can be used as one of the evaluation indicators of these measurements. Today, new VR systems are emerging and VR-related technologies are expected to evolve steadily. In this context, the findings can contribute to future research directions and provide insights into conducting UX evaluation in VR system.

The therapeutic potential of cognitive therapy in psychiatric hospitals is enhanced through conceptually homogeneous milieus and skillful staff training. This paper describes methods, processes, and issues to be considered in developing staff training programs. An emphasis is placed on case conceptualization and matching training to patients’ needs. Further, a general training program is delineated and challenges facing trainers are discussed. Finally, questions which may guide future research directions are suggested.

 The main purpose of this study is to propose and empirically test a conceptual model that clarifies shopping behavior via livestream on Facebook platform of people in Hanoi. The data was collected from at least 240 random Facebook users. The analysis results show that Facebook users tend to buy goods via livestream when they feel that the product quality, design, and product policy are convincing enough for them. In addition, there are other factors that also influence purchasing decisions, such as technology quality, perceived value of style and attitude, reliability, product trust in the relationship between consumers and sellers such as livestream style, KOLs, sound & background… From there, theoretical and managerial contributions, as well as finding out limitations and future research directions are also discussed in the body of this paper  Keywords:  Shopping, Livestream, Livestream Products, Livestream People, Livestream Culture, Online Shopping.

Oridonin, as a natural terpenoids found in traditional Chinese herbal medicine Isodon rubescens (Hemsl.) H.Hara, is widely present in numerous Chinese medicine preparations. The purpose of this review focuses on providing the latest and comprehensive information on the pharmacology, pharmacokinetics and toxicity of oridonin, to excavate the therapeutic potential and explore promising ways to balance toxicity and efficacy of this natural compound. Information concerning oridonin was systematically collected from the authoritative internet database of PubMed, Elsevier, Web of Science, Wiley Online Library and Europe PMC applying a combination of keywords involving “pharmacology,” “pharmacokinetics,” and “toxicology”. New evidence shows that oridonin possesses a wide range of pharmacological properties, including anticancer, anti-inflammatory, hepatorenal activities as well as cardioprotective protective activities and so on. Although significant advancement has been witnessed in this field, some basic and intricate issues still exist such as the specific mechanism of oridonin against related diseases not being clear. Moreover, several lines of evidence indicated that oridonin may exhibit adverse effects, even toxicity under specific circumstances, which sparked intense debate and concern about security of oridonin. Based on the current progress, future research directions should emphasize on 1) investigating the interrelationship between concentration and pharmacological effects as well as toxicity, 2) reducing pharmacological toxicity, and 3) modifying the structure of oridonin—one of the pivotal approaches to strengthen pharmacological activity and bioavailability. We hope that this review can provide some inspiration for the research of oridonin in the future.

PurposeIn recent years, student-managed investment funds (SMIFs), experiential learning programs at an increasing number of universities, have attracted significant scholarly interest. In this article, we review the academic literature on this pedagogy.Design/methodology/approachWe use the systematic review method to assess a sample of 85 articles published in 30 journals during the period 1975 to 2020.FindingsOur literature review reveals four streams of research: best practices and challenges, investment management, innovation and trends and SMIFs in a research setting. We also propose future research directions, including specific gaps in the literature, a focus on innovations to traditional programs, systematic investment performance and expansion into behavioral finance issues.Originality/valueWe contribute a comprehensive view of the body of scholarship on SMIFs, identifying existing streams of research and future research directions that will help guide the development of SMIF research into a cohesive and productive space.

Although still in very early stages of clinical development, the combination of antiangiogenics with contemporary chemoradiotherapy regimens has emerged as a feasible and promising approach to many cancers. We review the rationale and the current understanding of antiangiogenics and their therapeutic potential in combination with chemoradiotherapy. Finally, we offer a perspective on future research directions aimed at making this complex therapeutic approach successful in the clinic.

Macrophages maintain tissue homeostasis by phagocytosing and removing unwanted materials such as dead cells and cell debris. Microglia, the resident macrophages of the central nervous system (CNS), are no exception. In addition, a series of recent studies have shown that microglia phagocytose the neuronal synapses that form the basis of neural circuit function. This discovery has spurred many neuroscientists to study microglia. Importantly, in the CNS parenchyma, not only microglia but also blood-derived monocytes, which essentially differentiate into macrophages after infiltration, exert phagocytic ability, making the study of phagocytosis in the CNS even more interesting and complex. In particular, in the diseased brain, the phagocytosis of tissue-damaging substances, such as myelin debris in multiple sclerosis (MS), has been shown to be carried out by both microglia and blood-derived monocytes. However, it remains largely unclear why blood-derived monocytes need to invade the parenchyma, where microglia are already abundant, to assist in phagocytosis. We will also discuss whether this phagocytosis can affect the fate of the phagocytosing cell itself as well as the substance being phagocytosed and the surrounding environment in addition to future research directions. In this review, we will introduce recent studies to answer a question that often arises when studying microglial phagocytosis: under what circumstances and to what extent blood-derived monocytes infiltrate the CNS and contribute to phagocytosis. In addition, the readers will learn how recent studies have experimentally distinguished between microglia and infiltrating monocytes. Finally, we aim to contribute to the progress of phagocytosis research by discussing the effects of phagocytosis on phagocytic cells.

Metformin is one of the most widely prescribed hypoglycemic drugs and has the potential to treat many diseases. More and more evidence shows that metformin can regulate the function of macrophages in atherosclerosis, including reducing the differentiation of monocytes and inhibiting the inflammation, oxidative stress, polarization, foam cell formation and apoptosis of macrophages. The mechanisms by which metformin regulates the function of macrophages include AMPK, AMPK independent targets, NF-κB, ABCG5/8, Sirt1, FOXO1/FABP4 and HMGB1. On the basis of summarizing these studies, we further discussed the future research directions of metformin: single-cell RNA sequencing, neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs), epigenetic modification, and metformin-based combination drugs. In short, macrophages play an important role in a variety of diseases, and improving macrophage dysfunction may be an important mechanism for metformin to expand its pleiotropic pharmacological profile. In addition, the combination of metformin with other drugs that improve the function of macrophages (such as SGLT2 inhibitors, statins and IL-1β inhibitors/monoclonal antibodies) may further enhance the pleiotropic therapeutic potential of metformin in conditions such as atherosclerosis, obesity, cancer, dementia and aging.

Purpose – the implementation of eco-innovation practices is observed in the micro-level of the company and the integration of these practices with the overall firm’s strategy is inevitable. We set forth to investigate at what level the field of eco-innovation strategies has been studied at the firm-level. Research methodology – a review of the most influential articles in the field of eco-innovation strategies was conducted. A total of 929 scientific publications included in Web of Science (WoS) (Clarivate Analytics) database between 1990 and 2020 were taken into consideration. Findings – the results of this study reveal the following: (1) the increasing trend of publications in the field of eco-in- novation strategies; (2) the most influential articles related to the topic; (3) the gaps of extant research and future research directions. Research limitations – this study uses citations as a measure of influence which might be deceptive due to the fact that some authors might be citing themselves and / or citing publications in a negative context. Practical implications – findings provide relevant insights about the input and the output of eco-innovation strategies and serves as a guide for researchers and practitioners exploring eco-innovation strategies. Originality/Value – this study enhances the body of knowledge on the field of eco-innovation strategies. This is the first study, which investigates the scientific publications related to firm-level eco-innovation strategies and develops an operative conceptual model for future studies.
