The non-enzymatic synthesis of N-benzyloxycarbonyl-L-phenylalanyl-L-leucine (Cbz-Phe-Leu) from lipophilic N-benzyloxycarbonyl-L-phenylalanine (Cbz-Phe) and hydrophilic L-leucine (Leu), by N, N’-dicyclohexylcarbodiimide (DCC) as a condensing agent, was carried out using a reversed micellar system composed of bis(2-ethylhexyl) sodium sulfosuccinate (AOT) as a surfactant and isooctane. We successfully synthesized Cbz-Phe-Leu in a short time and investigated the effects of its operational conditions, the DCC concentration, w0, and the pH on the kinetic parameters and the maximum yields. For dipeptide synthesis, we had to add an excess of DCC with the substrates because of the side reactions of Cbz-Phe. From the pH dependency of the reactivity, a partially cationic form of Leu was better for a synthesis reaction because of the enrichment of Leu at the interface by anionic AOT. The optimum water content on the dipeptide synthesis was w0 = 28 due to the competition of the peptide synthesis and the side reactions. The maximum yield of Cbz-Phe-Leu was 0.565 at 80 h under optimum experimental conditions.

A two step operation is proposed for the biodegradation of low concentrations (< 10 mg/L) of BETX substances in an up flow submerged biotower configuration. Step 1 involves growth of a lush biofilm using benzoic acid in a batch mode. Step 2 involves a longer term biological transformation of BETX. Kinetics of biotransformations are modeled using first order assumptions, with rate constants being a function of benzoic acid dosages used in Step 1. A calibrated computer model is developed and presented to predict the degree of transformation and biomass level throughout the tower under a variety of inlet and design operational conditions.

AbstractSowing density is one of the most influential factors affecting corn yield. Here, we tested the hypothesis that, according to soil attributes, maximum corn productivity can be attained by varying the seed population. Specifically, our objectives were to identify the soil attributes that affect grain yield, in order to generate a model to define the optimum sowing rate as a function of the attributes identified, and determine which vegetative growth indices can be used to predict yield most accurately. The experiment was conducted in Chapadão do Céu-GO in 2018 and 2019 at two different locations. Corn was sown as the second crop after the soybean harvest. The hybrids used were AG 8700 PRO3 and FS 401 PW, which have similar characteristics and an average 135-day cropping cycle. Tested sowing rates were 50, 55, 60, and 65 thousand seeds ha−1. Soil attributes evaluated included pH, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, organic matter, clay content, cation exchange capacity, and base saturation. Additionally, we measured the correlation between the different vegetative growth indices and yield. Linear correlations were obtained through Pearson’s correlation network, followed by path analysis for the selection of cause and effect variables, which formed the decision trees to estimate yield and seeding density. Magnesium and apparent electrical conductivity (ECa) were the most important soil attributes for determining sowing density. Thus, the plant population should be 56,000 plants ha−1 to attain maximum yield at ECa values > 7.44 mS m−1. In addition, the plant population should be 64,800 plants ha−1 at values < 7.44 mS m−1 when magnesium levels are greater than 0.13 g kg−1, and 57,210 plants ha−1 when magnesium content is lower. Trial validation showed that the decision tree effectively predicted optimum plant population under the local experimental conditions, where yield did not significantly differ among populations.

The vast majority of commodity polymers are acquired from petrochemical feedstock, and these resources will plausibly be depleted within the next 100 years. Therefore, the utilization of carbon-neutral renewable resources for the production of polymers is crucial in modern green chemistry. Herein, we report an eco-friendly strategy that uses enzyme catalysis to design biobased unsaturated (co)polyesters from muconic acid derivatives. This method is an attractive pathway for the production of well-defined unsaturated polyesters with minimum side reactions. A suite of characterization techniques was performed to probe the reaction mechanism and properties of the obtained polyesters. It is rationalized that the alkene functionality of the muconate monomers plays an important role in the enzyme catalysis mechanism. The rendered polyesters possessed excellent thermal stabilities and unreacted alkene functionality that can consecutively undergo chain extension, copolymerization, or act as an anchor for other functional groups. These properties open new avenues in the fields of unsaturated polyester resins and photosensitive coatings.

Abstract New catalyst systems based on alkylaluminum derivatives and halogen or interhalogen compounds were found highly efficient in the synthesis of high-molecular-weight IIR at temperatures above − 50°C. The reaction mechanism was studied in detail for the system Et2AlCl + Cl2. The reactions occurring between chlorine, isobutene, Et2AlCl, and the solvent (CH3Cl) were elucidated and studied under various experimental conditions (e.g. presence or absence of light, simultaneous presence of the copolymerization system components, temperature, type of halogen, use of model compound of isobutene). It was concluded that halogenium ions, i.e. Cl+, Br+, or I+, are the initiating species. Kinetic and conductometric investigations showed that scarcely dissociated ion pairs, e.g. Cl+[Et2AlCl2]−, were formed in the absence of monomer; but in the presence of isobutene, a noticeable increase of the electrical conductivity and rapid polymerization occurred. The maximum polymerization rate was first order with respect to the concentrations of monomer, Cl2, and Et2AlCl. In the homopolymerization of isobutene, transfer to monomer and termination reactions were negligible. The MW of IIR was found to be mainly dependent on the concentrations of the catalyst components, on isoprene concentration, and on temperature. The reactivity ratio of isobutene with isoprene was found to be r1=2.5±0.5 at −35°C, while the activation energies relative to MW were −5.8 ± 0.4, kcal/mol for polyisobutene, and −5.7 ± 0.7 and − 4.3 ± 0.5 kcal/mol for IIR containing, respectively, 1.3 and 1.9 mol% of isoprene. The evaluation of some physicochemical and technological properties of typical IIR produced with the system Et2AlCl + Cl2, indicated that isoprene is randomly distributed along the chains and that the MWD is monomodal, while the glass transition temperature, tensile properties, mechanical-dynamic spectra, and kinetics of vulcanization are very similar to those of commercial IIR. Very preliminary data, referring to several classes of new catalyst systems yielding IIR having good properties, were also obtained. The syncatalyst systems here described can work in a homogeneous phase consisting of an aliphatic hydrocarbon besides methyl chloride, still giving IIR with high MW. Therefore, a completely homogeneous process can be envisioned for the synthesis of IIR at −50°C thus avoiding a great part of the fouling problems of the slurry process. The economic advantage of using “high” temperatures of polymerization is briefly discussed in terms of energy savings.

Abstract The substance BK 129 - 1-[2-(2-pentyloxyphenylcarbamoyloxy)-(2-methoxymethyl)-ethyl]-perhydroazepinium chloride was prepared in terms of influence of the connecting chain between the carbamate functional group and the basic part of molecule on biological activity. Such a structural feature is important with regard to its stability. In this work we determined the rate constants of alkaline hydrolysis of this compound at increased temperature under isothermal and non-isothermal conditions. The hydrolysis was also performed in buffer solutions with the purpose of evaluating its stability. Non-isothermal tests of stability enable to reduce the number of analyses. The necessary data for stability of compound are in this way achieved in a short time.

The article presents the results of growing tilapia to marketable weight in experimental sites (Chilikskoye pond pond farms LLP, KATU named after S. Seifullin JSC and Kapshagai spawning farm — 1973 LLP). In the process of carrying out research works, the methods generally accepted in fish farming, hydrochemistry, hydrobiology, hydrology, ichthyology, as well as foreign normative and technical guidelines and methodological instructions on the technology of growing commercial tilapia in industrial conditions were used. Monitoring of hydrochemical analyses of water in ponds, swimming pools, and closed water supply installations is given. Fish-breeding and biological indicators of tilapia grown in various experimental conditions are presented. The results of the studies have shown the real possibility of growing tilapia in various conditions of fish farms in Kazakhstan. Based on the results of the work, the following conclusions were made: — satisfactory fish-breeding indicators were obtained with various cultivation technologies (as when growing tilapia in polyculture and monoculture in ponds, in pools, as well as cultivation in the recirculation system); — the cultivation of tilapia in the experimental ponds of the fish farm of the Almaty region of the Republic of Kazakhstan has shown the possibility of obtaining high fish-breeding biological indicators of tilapia and the ability to grow to marketable mass in a short time; — as a result of experimental cultivation in various conditions, it was found that the survival rate was not lower than 97%; — as a result of the analysis of the profitability indices of the developed technologies, it was found that the most profitable was the technology of growing marketable tilapia products in monoculture ponds on water with a natural thermal regime in Chilik Pond Economy LLP.

The oriented 0.67Pb (Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-0.33PbTiO3 (PMNT) polycrystals were prepared by the conventional ceramic technique and the templated grain growth method adding excess PbO in the matrix. Kinetics of the development of oriented structure was investigated systemically. In the presence of PbO liquid phase, the oriented PMNT polycrystals mainly grow by the dissolution-precipitation mechanism. The diffusion is determined by the sintering temperature and the PbO-excess content in the matrix. The thickness of oriented PMNT polycrystals displays a t1/3 dependence, which is characteristic of diffusion-controlled growth. For the thicker oriented structure, 20% excess PbO in the PMNT matrix and 1150oC for 10h are the proper experimental conditions. Moreover, the addition of PbO in the matrix hardly affects the final composition of ceramic matrix.
