In this paper, the recent progress on sinuous antennas is detailed, focusing the attention on the antenna geometry, dielectric structure, and miniaturization techniques. In the first part, we introduce the basic principles of the frequency-independent antenna, in particular the self-complementary and log-periodic geometries, as well as the antenna geometries, all characterized in terms of angles. The operating principles, main advantages, system design considerations, limits, and challenges of conventional sinuous antennas are illustrated. Second, we describe some technical solutions aimed to ensure the optimal trade-off between antenna size and radiation behavior. To this aim, some special modification of the antenna geometry based on the meandering as well as on the loading with dielectric structures are presented. Moreover, the cavity backing technique is explained in detail as a method to achieve unidirectional radiation. Third, we present a new class of supershaped sinuous antenna based on a suitable merge of the 2D superformula and the sinuous curve. The effect of the free parameters change on the antenna arm geometry as well as the performance improvement in terms of directivity, beam stability, beam angle, gain, and radiating efficiency are highlighted.

This study analyzed in details the genesis of American school of study of elites in the period from the middle of the 20th century to the beginning of the 21st century. In this case the author makes an attempt to classify the main phases of American elitology from the 40s of the 20th century. Based on an analysis of papers of well-known American sociologists and political scientists who study elites, the author states the main approaches in relation to the study of elites. Thus, in the 1940s, the dominant approach to understanding elites was the liberal-democratic, according to which access to the elites is open for everyone who has extra skills in different spheres of society. At the same time stands a technocratic approach, which define elite as a group of professional managers who form a new class of technocracy. In 50s–60s liberal-democratic approach has been criticized by left-wing approach. From this point, elite was defined as a narrow layer of financiers and persons, who are close to the president, and this layer is closed. In the 60s–70s, the most popular approach of studying elites was pluralism. According to which, elite has no monolithic origin — it is a complex of interconnected independent elites. From the beginning of the 70s, the basic principles of pluralism have been criticized by neoelitism, according to which the most elite representatives included in most elite groups simultaneously. The late 20th — early 21st century can be characterized in two ways: dispute between pluralists and neoelitists and attempts to operationalize the concept of elite.

The article discusses the basic principles of force loading of a material in a vibro-impact grinder with a vertical and inclined working chamber. It is shown that in a grinder with a vertical working chamber the control of the material loading is limited by the presence of a relationship between the vertical and rotational oscillations of the jaws. Vibro-impact grinder with an inclined working chamber represents a new class of machines. A mathematical model of the process of interaction of the jaw with a piece of material when moving it in the working chamber is presented. Equations and graphical dependencies are obtained, which determine the phase angle of the moment of clamping the piece in the working chamber. The modes of power loading of the material in the working chamber were analyzed.

The article presents the basic principles of functioning of the interval regulation system of train traffic proposed for implementation, which are the basis for further, more detailed design. The sys- tem is based on the use of radio frequency identifiers (RFID-tags) to determine the coordinates of the location of the rolling stock and assumes work on principles different from those currently existing. So, the principle of overlapping traffic lights allows the movement of trains of non-standard formations (armored trains, trains with cover platforms, etc.). A special approach to the organization of protective sections behind the tail of a moving train is considered. The proposed technology is a special system aimed at solving a certain range of wartime tasks, therefore, it uses a two-digit signaling (prohibiting movement red signal, permitting movement green signal). This feature is due to the need to ensure the maximum simplicity of this technical tool, the possibility of rapid deployment and short-term recovery. The basic principles described in the article are not a complete description of the dependencies and algorithms implemented in the system, but only the initial stage of further development of fundamental technical solutions.

Replacing part of full-scale tests of weapons and military equipment with imitation experiments is highly relevant, since it allows saving substantial material and technical resources, reducing development time, and in some cases carrying out virtual tests, the full‑scale analogue of which cannot be done. In the Almaz-Antey Corporation, a simulation system is built, consisting of a simulation platform and particular simulation models that represent the forces and means of aerospace defense and aerospace attack. The paper presents the basic principles and results of the creation of a universal software platform for simulation modeling of combat operations based on the HLA IEEE‑1516 technology. These principles and approaches partly follow from the IEEE-1516 standard itself, while others are original technical solutions. The platform is based on the principles of openness, scalability, distributed computing. The composition and features of particular models are not considered in the work.

In order to improve the accuracy of subsurface target classification with ground penetrating radar (GPR) systems, it is desired to transmit and receive ultra-wide band pulses with varying combinations of polarization (a technique referred to as polarimetry). The sinuous antenna exhibits such desirable properties as ultra-wide bandwidth, polarization diversity, and low-profile form factor, making it an excellent candidate for the radiating element of such systems. However, sinuous antennas are dispersive since the active region moves with frequency along the structure, resulting in the distortion of radiated pulses. This distortion may be compensated in signal processing with accurately simulated or measured antenna phase information. However, in a practical GPR, the antenna performance may deviate from that simulated, accurate measurements may be impractical, and/or the dielectric loading of the environment may cause deviations. In such cases, it may be desirable to employ a simple dispersion model based on antenna design parameters which may be optimized in situ. This paper explores the dispersive properties of the sinuous antenna and presents a simple, adjustable, model that may be used to correct dispersed pulses. The dispersion model is successfully applied to both simulated and measured scenarios, thereby enabling the use of sinuous antennas in polarimetric GPR applications.

Our national husbandry belongs among economies with the biggest energy consumption per an inhabitant. Slovak Republic consumes for making of product’s unit approximately twice more energy than the average in forward European countries. Such a big reserves, that we have to achieve in the area of effective increasing of energy utilization are not possible only by administrative way, but by establishing of new technical solutions into a general practice too. In a part of large-area industry operations, the new technical solution lies in the combination heating system by radiant ceiling panels with ventilation by air handling unit with integrated device for heat recovery, which considerably reduces the operation costs. Paper shows also the basic principles of heat transfer, main construction of the radiant ceiling panel and finally stated objective its advantages and drawbacks.
