Due to advances in technology (in particular the Internet), people have become less restricted by space and time, and can use travel time more productively by using their Internet-connected mobile devices on the move. Some operators provided Internet access on public transport to increase ridership. This has been shown to increase ridership, however it is not clear if it can induce people who prefer private cars to public transport to consider using public transport. In this paper, we examine the relationship between the frequency of using the Internet while commuting or travelling, and commuting mode choice, and how this relationship varies for people who have different attitudes toward public transport. Our results show that commuters who use the Internet frequently on the move tend to use public transport more. In addition, this association is significant for those who prefer private cars to public transport, showing the potential effectiveness of new technology in generating new riders.

Abstract: For the post millennial generation the use of the internet is very familiar but with various purposes of use. This study wants to look at the relationship between the use of the internet by residents who are currently in school for the sake of completing school work in Indonesia to get good learning outcomes. Analysis based on secondary data from the 2018 National Socio-Economic Survey. It's just that the data obtained is not symmetrical with outliers. Quantile regression is used to minimize the effect of outliers. The study found that there was a close relationship between internet access from residents who were in school and completion of school work. The quantile regression results show that the proportion of internet access for completing school work differs between groups of proportions of internet use. A high proportion of internet use will be used for completing higher school work.

The activity of memorizing Quran has been a custom of Muslims since the time of Prophet Muhammad May Peace be upon Him. When the internet developed and became an inseparable part of human life, it was feared to harm the achievement of Quran memorizing. To prove the truth of that concern, this quantitative research was conducted. The research is aimed at measuring the relationship between the duration and variety of internet access with the achievements of hafidz Quran (memorizers). The data are obtained by survey, interviews, and documentation, then analyzed statistically, presented and interpreted descriptively. The results show that internet access’ duration, and its utilization, such as processes, contents, and social forms have significant and positive relationships towards the achievement of the hafidz. On the other hand, the internet use intended for fun or as an escape to release stress does not have a significant relationship with the performance of the hafidz. Keywords: internet access; internet usage; Quran memorization

The introduction of new public transport systems can influence society in a multitude of ways ranging from modal choices and the environment to economic growth. This paper examines the determinants of light rail mode choice for medium- and long-distance trips (10 to 40 km) for a new light rail system in Flanders, Belgium. To investigate these choices, the effects of various transport system–specific factors (i.e., travel cost, in-vehicle travel time, transit punctuality, waiting time, access and egress time, transfers, and availability of seats) as well as the travelers' personal traits were analyzed by using an alternating logistic regression model, which explicitly takes into account the correlated responses for binary data. The data used for the analysis stem from a stated preference survey conducted in Flanders. The modeling results are in line with literature: most transport system–specific factors as well as socioeconomic variables, attitudinal factors, perceptions, and the frequency of using public transport contribute significantly to the preference for light rail transit. In particular, the results indicate that the use of light rail is strongly influenced by travel cost and in-vehicle travel time and to a lesser extent by waiting and access–egress time. Seat availability appeared to play a more important role than did transfers in deciding to choose light rail transit. The findings of this paper can be used by policy makers as a frame of reference to make light rail transit more successful.

One aspect of Kuching City that has not progressed in tandem with the rest of the city is the public transport system, which is relatively old and almost non-existent. Transport and City planners seem to be at their wit’s end in coming up with satisfactory solutions to Kuching’s public transportation woes. In current situation, many proposals, but none have proven workable. As a result, representative buses remain a rare sight on Kuching city’s roads. To achieve a sustainable public transport industry, the old buses need to be regenerated and replaced with modern buses. The objectives of the intended study are to explore the consumer’s travel behaviour by employing mode choice modelling. Consequently, a study was conducted in Kuching City Area by using stated preference technique, analysed and compiled by using SPSS.17 multiple linear regressions analysis. In this context, discrete choice analysis was used to examine the relationship between independent variables (travel time, waiting time, fares and comfort) and dependent variables (choice of respondent whether to consume old bus or choose new bus services). A total of 2000 respondents were interviewed. The findings showed that for the trips purpose, fares and comfortability were the primary factors that reflected the decision or behaviour of the respondents asked. It was discovered that there is a significant relationship between the choice of the respondents and comfortability. It also appeared that longer travel time did not affect for the traveler’s choice at this stage. Hence, the study suggests that the local authority and the bus operators should establish a “quality partnership” and working together in order to come out with a much better and appropriate transport policy and schemes for the existing public transportation systems, especially bus services.

Early researchers had predicted that the Internet might help to encourage political participation through its ability to make political information more accessible. Unfortunately, disparities in Internet access made it unlikely that the Internet would have much of an impact on voter turnout. Telecommunication technology has evolved and among these new advances is smartphones, which help to increase Internet access. The purpose of this chapter is to examine this argument by exploring the relationship between smartphone ownership and voting. This topic is explored using multivariate regression analysis and individual level data from the 2012 American National Election Studies. Findings suggest that smartphones are helping to increase voter turnout through their ability to facilitate other online activities such as visiting candidate websites and taking part in political discussion through social networking sites.

This paper quantifies and analyses the issue gender digital divide which has been prominent in discussions of the information society. The phenomena digital divide can in brief be defined as inequality of Internet access. But access alone does not solve anything; the actual problem about digital divide is very complex. While it would be very interesting to explore the relationship between the digital divide and gender identity among the multiple faces of digital divide based on age, job, nation, education etc. Researchers were quick to observe that women tend to be latecomers to the digital age. As a consequence, the new technology was popularly portrayed as a male domain.

This study starts from the idea that the irresponsible handling of the mobile devices and the Internet in the academic spaces can have an adverse effect in the learning process of the university students. The research was carried out with a group of students of the Undergraduate Program in Information Technologies of the Faculty of Accounting and Administration, offered by the Autonomous University of Chihuahua. An experimental, mixed, applied and descriptive methodology was used. The results indicate that students show a marked dependence on these technological tools when they make an indiscriminate and non-responsible use of them during their academic hours, which even changes their attitude toward learning. It is observed that the use of the mobile device or the Internet access in the classroom, when no limits are established, becomes a distractor for the student in fulfilling the learning activities that the teacher guides in the classroom, which affects in a negative way in the academic performance of the student. In this context, however the negative aspect of the immoderate use of mobile devices and the Internet is appreciated, an area of opportunity is perceived to promote a culture of academic spaces and also establish institutional guidelines for this purpose.

A control system of urban passenger transport is considered. The system participants are a passenger flow, a transport operator and municipal authorities. The participants’ strategies include a travel mode choice, a frequency of public transport service, and a road capacity. Objective functions are transport costs, public transport profit, road costs, and travel time. The passenger flow heterogeneity is based on the value of time that has an exponential distribution. The total costs of passenger flow depend on the probability of the travel mode choice. The dependence between travel time, roads capacity, and traffic is based on Greenshields model. The authorities’ objective consists of travel time and road costs, which can be changed by the road capacity. The game theoretic approach is applied to describe the control system. The existence of Nash equilibrium for coalition-free games for two (the passenger flow and the authorities and three (with addition of public transport) players is proved. The characteristics of urban passenger transport were studied based on a numerical example.

Abstract Background:Internet access penetration in Indonesia is growing, all information can be obtained very easily, including how the child's immune system can be obtained against diseases that can be prevented by immunization. However, the internet can also have a bad impact, because it is very easy to use to spread false news or hoaxes. Objective: An analysis will be conducted to find the relationship between internet access in the family and the status of completeness of basic immunization for children under two years Method: The study will use data from the Indonesian Health Demographic Survey (IDHS) conducted in 2017. The unit of analysis is children under two years. The analysis of the relationship between internet access in the family and the completeness status of basic immunization for children under two years used logistic regression analysis with a complex sample mode. Result: The analysis shows that families in Indonesia who have internet access based on the 2017 IDHS data are 46.0 percent, and children under two years with complete basic immunization status is 65.3 percent. It can be seen that there is a relationship between internet access and the completeness status of basic immunization for children with OR 1.37 (1.14-1.66). Conclusion: The internet is like a double-edged sword, one side can be used to find various information that is beneficial to health, but can also be used to spread false information. Therefore it is important to educate all Indonesians to use internet access positively.   Keywords: immunization, vaccine, IDHS, Indonesia.
