This study investigates the influence of the temperature fluctuations on the bearing capacity of cold in-depth recycled (CIR) pavements stabilized with foamed asphalt (FA). Aiming to achieve this goal, non-destructive testing was conducted during mild and high temperatures on a highway CIR pavement, utilizing mainly the FWD device. The back-calculated moduli values were utilized to estimate the strain values within the body of the pavement, while the strains induced using the FWD device were measured with a fiber optic sensors (FOS) system. Moreover, data from the fatigue behavior of the layer materials was also considered. The results of the related analysis indicate that for every 1 °C temperature increase within the body of the AC overlay, an approximately 5.7% increase of the critical tensile strain is expected. Moreover, for every 1 °C temperature increase within the body of the FA layer, an approximately 1.8% increase of the tensile strain at the bottom of the FA layer is expected. The new constructed layers, i.e., asphalt concrete (AC) and FA, sustain much more damage at high temperatures. This was more evident in the upper layer, i.e., the AC overlay.

Abstract. The influence of various factors onto the reproductive characteristics of the cladoceran Daphnia galeata Sars, 1863 Lake Baikal was studied. With an increase in the concentration of available feed, the size of the body, average fertility, the size of the brood and the proportion of egg-bearing females increase. At high temperatures, significantly greater fecundity and the proportion of egg-bearing females were noted; other features did not change significantly with temperature increase. Under the conditions of strong turbulence, the fertility and the proportion of egg-bearing females are lower than under the conditions of low turbulence. The presence of a predator with an increase in the concentration of feed and temperature results in the decrease in the size of crustaceans and in the increase of the proportion of egg-bearing females.

The respiratory rates of three species of planktonic copepods, Acartia clausi, Centropages hamatus and Temora longicornis, were measured at four different temperatures. The relationship between respiratory rate and temperature was found to be similar to that previously found for Calanus, although the slope of the curves differed in the different species. The observations on Centropages at 13 and 170 C. can be divided into two groups and it is suggested that the differences are due to the use of copepods from two different generations. The relationship between the respiratory rates and lengths of Acartia and Centropages agreed very well with that previously found for other species. That for Temora was rather different: the difference is probably due to the distinct difference in the shape of the body of Temora from those of the other species. The application of these measurements to estimates of the food requirements of the copepods is discussed.

In this work, aramid fibers were used to develop new, high-performance fabrics for high-temperature protective clothing. The research was based on the impact of the weave structure on fabric resistance to radiant heat. The goals of the research were primarily related to the development of new fabric structures created by the weave structure, which gives better protection of the body against high temperatures in relation to the standard weave structures that are used today. According to the results obtained it can be concluded that the fabric weave significantly affects the fabric structure, which consequently determines the effectiveness of protection against high temperatures. The justification for the use of multi-weft and strucks weave structure, which provides greater thermal protection and satisfactory breathability than commonly used weave structures, was ascertained.

Abstract. In the neonatal male rat, a rapid and transient increase in serum testosterone occurs about 2 h after birth. This post-partum testosterone surge (PPTS) has been implicated in the masculinization and defeminization of the central nervous system. The present study shows that environmental temperature can have a profound influence on the PPTS. Male rats were delivered from their mothers by caesarean section on day 22 of gestation. Immediately thereafter, neonatal males were placed at an ambient temperature of either 18, 21, 24 or 30°C. With 2 h of exposure, the body temperature was in close correspondence with the ambient temperature. The PPTS was clearly abolished in the pups exposed for 2 h at either 18 or 21°C. The effect of temperature was reversible: by placing pups at either 18 or 21°C for 2 h after delivery, and then rewarming by placing them with a foster mother, the PPTS was delayed until 4 h after birth, i.e. 2 h after the beginning of rewarming. Thus, environmental cooling appears to retard the development of neural and/or endocrine systems mediating the PPTS. Aberrant maternal care which would produce substantial cooling of the male pups would be expected to affect the PPTS, which in turn might affect the sexuality of male progeny.

Purpose. The purpose of the work is to establish the real technical condition of transport structures made of corrugated metal structures on the basis of the analysis of scientific and technical sources. And to analyze the experience of operation of metal corrugated structures in the soil environment and to form and generalize the problems of ensuring the reliability and durability of structures made of metal corrugated structures in the conditions of operation on railways and highways of Ukraine. Methodology. To achieve this goal, a review of scientific and technical sources and regulations of different countries on the technical condition of transport facilities in Ukraine was conducted. In particular, data on the distribution of bridges and pipes made of corrugated metal structures by mode of transport are given. It is shown that the development and implementation of new technologies for the repair of existing defective pipes and small bridges, both on the railways and highways of Ukraine is a very important issue. A thorough analysis of the experience of operation of corrugated metal structures in the soil environment in different countries was conducted. Data on the main inadmissible defects of pipes and the reasons of their development are given. CMS' (corrugated metal structures) corrosion and other defects are given. A number of examples of overpass defects, collapse of bridges and structures with MCS in operation are presented. The qualitative indicators of metal corrugated structures, their advantages and disadvantages are also considered, the problems and the analysis of ensuring the reliability and durability of the structures with CMS in the conditions of operation on the railways and highways of Ukraine are formulated. Findings. An analysis of domestic and foreign scientific and technical sources on the technical condition of transport facilities in Ukraine was conducted. In particular, the experience of operation of corrugated metal structures in different countries of the world is studied and generalized. The analysis and synthesis of problems of ensuring the reliability and durability of buildings with CMS in the conditions of operation on the railways and highways of Ukraine. Originality. As a result of the analysis of the technical condition of transport facilities operated on railways and highways of Ukraine, it was found that about 15 % of transport facilities – small and medium bridges and culverts on Ukrainian railways and about 45 % of transport facilities on Ukrainian roads have unacceptable defects and require immediate repair and replacement. Also, it was established on the basis of research that there are no methods for assessing the load-bearing capacity of transport facilities with CMS in the presence in the body of the embankment of the railway or highway metal corrugated structures with a diameter greater than 6 m. It was determined that standards don't include regulations on design and monitoring of CMS on railway tracks. Practical value. On the basis of these data it was possible to offer directions of theoretical and experimental research and methods of calculation, tests of CMS and diagnostics of a technical condition of transport structures with CMS. In particular, the measurement of the impact of the environment on the bearing capacity of the CMS and the measurement of residual deformations of the corrugated metal pipe on the railway track. Execution of the analysis and synthesis of methods of calculation of transport constructions with CMS will lead to improvement of methods of calculation of CMS.
