A comparative evaluation of the study of the main traits of wool with indicators of the histostructure of the skin of rams has been shown that the fat content in wool averaged 13,1 %. The correlation coefficient between the percentage of pure wool yield and the amount of fat was 0,38. A negative correlation between the amount of wool shorn, the yield of pure fiber, and the length of the wool has been was obtained with the amount of sweat in the wool (P < 0,01). This suggests that the reduction of the sweat part in the fat content will occur to a certain extent due to indirect selection for wool productivity. As the level of the comprehensive evaluation has decreased, the wool thinned by an average of 0,98 microns. The difference in the length of the wool of rams of the 1st group with average indicators was 1,3 cm, and for the amount of wool shorn and the yield of pure fiber –1,18 kg and 7,17 %, respectively. A negative correlation (r = –0,50) has been obtained in rams with the thinness of 23,0–25,0 microns compared to herdmates with 18,0–20,0 microns when studying the correlation between follicle density and the primordial follicle/secondary follicle ratio. The narrower the DPF/DSF ratio the thinner the coat, and vice versa animals with the narrower ratio (0,98) have been characterized by a more balanced fiber. The correlation coefficient between the thinness of wool and the diameter of the secondary fiber was 0,42. With increasing thickness of the skin and especially its pilar layer the hair becomes shorter. Rams with a hair length of 10 cm have 19,2 % thicker skin and 23 % thicker pilar layer. There is a tendency to thicken the skin and pilar layer in rams of the 3rd group. Animals with the total follicle density of 80,0 pcs/mm[sup]2[/sup] or higher have 8,0 % less thickness compared to their herdmates who have 50,0 follicles per mm[sup]2[/sup] . Thus, the significant correlation has been found not only between the traits of fleece and wool, but also indicators of skin histostructure. This confirms the need to evaluate the fleece for the entire range of various properties of wool and skin histogenesis.

Various invasive and non-invasive methods have been used for measuring primary implant stability. Periotest damping device, and resonance frequency analysis (RFA) with the Osstell device have been classified as non-invasive methods. In this clinical randomized trial, a general correlation of primary implant stability was recorded using both the Osstell and Periotest device at the day of implant installation and 3 month after healing for the submerged and non submerged   loading protocols. The gender of included patients were investigated in the correlation of the two devices.Eighty completely edentulous patients were recruited, all patients were of age ranging from 50 to 69 years old. A single implant was installed in the midline of the completely edentulous mandible to improve retention of their lower denture. After implant installation, Implant Stability was recorded using the osstel and periotest device. Patients were then randomized into two groups using sealed envelopes; Submerged (S), and Non Submerged (NS). All ISQ and PTV were recorded at the day of implant installation, and 3 month after healing for both groups. When the ISQ was correlated to the (PTV), there was a moderate negative statistically significant correlation between the two readings, correlation coefficient= -0.466, p=0.000 . There tends to be a weak negative correlation between the two devices in the male group ,while there tends to be no correlation between the two devices in the female group After 3 month healing, there was no statistically significant correlation of the readings with in both groups ;NS and S ; Correlation coefficient =-0.014, -0.430, p=0.942, 0.052 respectively.   A strong negative statistically significant correlation between the two devices for the female group for both, NS and the S group. While there was no statistically significant correlation with in the male group for both groups. The present study concluded that there is a significant negative correlation between the two devices when recording primary implant stability, while this significance is lost after 3 month of loading when recording secondary implant stability. Gender would affect the implant stability recording, this would mainly due to the difference in bone density between the male and female group.

Objective: Accurate assessment of breast tumor size preoperatively is important for the initial decision-making in surgical approach. Therefore, we aimed to compare efficacy of mammography and ultrasonography in ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) of breast cancer. Methods: Preoperative mammography and ultrasonography were performed on 104 women with DCIS of breast cancer. We compared the accuracy of each of the imaging modalities with pathological size by Pearson correlation. For each modality, it was considered concordant if the difference between imaging assessment and pathological measurement is less than 0.5cm. Results: At pathological examination tumor size ranged from 0.4cm to 7.2cm in largest diameter. For mammographically determined size versus pathological size, correlation coefficient of r was 0.786 and for ultrasonography it was 0.651. Grouped by breast composition, in almost entirely fatty and scattered areas of fibroglandular dense breast, correlation coefficient of r was 0.790 for mammography and 0.678 for ultrasonography; in heterogeneously dense and extremely dense breast, correlation coefficient of r was 0.770 for mammography and 0.548 for ultrasonography. In microcalcification positive group, coeffient of r was 0.772 for mammography and 0.570 for ultrasonography. In microcalcification negative group, coeffient of r was 0.806 for mammography and 0.783 for ultrasonography. Conclusion: Mammography was more accurate than ultrasonography in measuring the largest cancer diameter in DCIS of breast cancer. The correlation coefficient improved in the group of almost entirely fatty/ scattered areas of fibroglandular dense breast or in microcalcification negative group.

Endovascular treatment is a rapidly evolving technique; therefore, there is a constant need to evaluate this method and its modifications. This paper discusses a single-center experience and the results of switching from the stent retriever only (SO) mechanical thrombectomy (MT) to the combined approach (CA), with a stent retriever and aspiration catheters. Methods: The study involved a retrospective analysis of 70 patients undergoing MT with the use of either SO or CA. The primary endpoint was the frequency of perfect reperfusion defined as grade 3 of the modified Thrombolysis in Cerebral Infarction scale (mTICI) after the first pass. The secondary endpoints were the procedure success, defined as mTICI grades 2b-3; time of the procedure; clinical outcome, measured by 90 days’ modified Rankin Scale (mRS) score; Δ NIHSS, defined as the difference between National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) score at patients’ admission and discharge; and the total number of device passes. Results: Out of the 70 patients included, 33 were treated with SO and 37 with CA. In both groups, a total number of 42 patients received intravenous recombined tissue plasminogen activator (iv-rTPA: 20 patients (60.6%) in the SO group and 22 patients (59.5%) in the CA group (p = 1.000). There was a significant difference between the groups regarding first-pass success rate, with 46% in the CA group and 18% in the SO group, (OR 3.83, 95% CI 1.28 to 11.44, p = 0.016). Complete procedure success tended to be more frequent in the CA group than in the SO group—94.6% vs. 84.8% (OR 3.13, 95% CI 0.56 to 17.34, p = 0.193)—and CA tended to require a lower number of passes than SO (mean 1.76 vs. 2.09 passes per procedure, p = 0.114), yet these differences did not reach statistical significance. Mean duration of the procedure was significantly shorter in the CA group than in the SO group (49 min vs. 64 min, p = 0.017). There was a significant difference in clinical outcomes, with higher Δ NIHSS (9.3 in the CA group vs. 6.7 in the SO group, p = 0.025) after the procedure and 90-day mRS (median 2 in the CA group vs. 4 in the SO group, p = 0.031). Conclusions: Combining stent retrievers with aspiration catheters may offer a beneficial effect on angiographic results and clinical outcomes in stroke patients undergoing endovascular treatment.

Objective To analyze endocan-1, a biomarker of vascular endothelial related pathologies, and the placental growth factor (PlGF), an angiogenic factor and a placental dysfunction marker in patients with preeclampsia (PE). Methods Case-control study conducted at Hospital São Lucas, in the city of Porto Alegre, Brazil. Endocan-1 and PlGF levels were quantified in the maternal plasma using the MagPlexTH-C microsphere system (MAGPIX System, Luminex, Austin, Texas, US) and evaluated through analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) and adjusted by body mass index (BMI), gestational age and maternal age. To estimate the difference between the groups, the mean ratio (MR) and the 95% confidence interval (95%CI) were calculated. The Pearson correlation test was used to establish any association between endocan-1 and PlGF levels. The null hypothesis was rejected when p < 0.05. Results The group of patients was composed by normotensive (n = 67) patients and patients with PE (n = 50). A negative correlation between endocan-1 and the PlGF was noted in the entire normotensive group (linear correlation coefficient [r] = −0.605; p < 0.001), as well as in the PE group (r = −0.545; p < 0.001). Conclusion Endocan-1 levels are increased in patients with PE, and are inversely correlated with PlGF levels. We suggest that it is important to analyze angiogenic and proinflammatory molecules concomitantly in women with PE to better understand the pathophysiology of the disease. Both molecules are strong candidates for PE biomarkers, and future studies will examine any mechanisms connecting these factors in PE.

SUMMARY With the object of obtaining basic information concerning the establishment of the feedback mechanism between the ovaries and the diencephalic-hypophysial system (DHS), changes in the gonadotrophic activity and histological structure of the anterior pituitary lobe were determined in groups of rats 21 days following ovariectomy on the day of birth or at 5, 10, 15, 20, 30 and 50 days. It was shown that the gonadotrophic activity of the hypophysis of spayed females and non-spayed controls differed using the criterion of uterine weight of the recipient, following ovariectomy at birth. After spaying at the age of 5 days the difference was also statistically significant using the criterion of ovarian weight. Histological investigation showed that in animals ovariectomized at days 1 and 5 there was an increase in PAS-positive mucoid cells in the adenohypophysis with a distinct PAS-positive Golgi zone in the pale centre of the cytoplasm. The results of these experiments show that a feedback mechanism between the ovaries and the DHS becomes established at an age between (21–x) and (26–x) days, where x is the period necessary for the development of demonstrable post-castration changes in the anterior lobe. In view of the reported initiation of ovarian oestrogen production, the hypothesis is discussed that the feedback mechanism begins to function during very early post-natal life.

The aim of the research was to evaluate the influence of the type of the nervous system on the productive and reproductive qualities of animals. The type of nervous system (strong, weak) of cows of the Ukrainian red dairy breed was determined by the index of the nervous system, which is based on the variability of the fat content in the morning milk yield after changing the conditions of cows keeping. Under the new conditions of keeping cows with a strong type of nervous activity, the coefficients of variability of the morning milk yield and the fat content in milk practically remained at the same level (their slight increase was noted at the level of 4.5 and 3.1%). In cows of a weak type under similar conditions of keeping, a significant increase in the variability of milk yield (by 53.6%) and fat content in milk (by 266.7%) was found. In animals of both types, in the first days of summer-camp keeping, in comparison with winter-stall keeping, there was an increase in milk yield and a decrease in fat content in milk. In cows of the strong type, the fat content decreased by 0.08% and of the weak type by 0.12%. The average index of the nervous system type in animals of the strong type is 1.18, and in cows of the weak type 2.71 (P> 0.999). Before and during milking, the pulse rate in the cows of weak type was higher by 8.0 and 10.8 beats / min. (P> 0.999), compared with the strong type. The animals of strong type of the nervous system, in comparison with the weak type, had a smaller thickness of the concha and skin, a higher pulse and respiratory rate, and a lower rectal body temperature. In cows of a strong type of the nervous system in postnatal ontogenesis, the formation of productive traits took place more rapidly and they better adapted to the conditions of the external environment. This is evidenced by their high coefficient of relative decline in the growth at the age of one (85.0) than in animals with a weak type of nervous system (78.5). The advantage of cows with a strong type of nervous activity over a weak one in milk yield was 348 kg (P>0.95) and in milk fat 8.0 kg. The service period in animals with a strong type of nervous activity was 6.3 days shorter. The animals with a strong type of nervous activity during the first lactation had a higher adaptation index compared with animals of a weak type. The difference for this indicator is 0.49 (or 3.7%). They also had a higher productivity index for the first (3.1%) and second (4.0%) lactation. Thus, the typological features of the nervous activity of cows affect the formation of the most important functions of the body, which can be used in breeding work to improve the herd.

The contents of ferulic acid, senkyunolide A, butylidenephthalide, ligustilide, and n-butylphthalide were determined by UPLC analytical method; the correlation among the grade, average weight, and content was explored by correlation analysis and analysis of variance (ANOVA); the different commercial grades with average weight and content were revealed by principal component analysis (PCA) and then rationality analysis grade classification ofA. sinensis. The results showed that various commercial grades can be distinguished by PCA analysis. And there was significant negative correlation between the commodity grades and average weight, commodity, and the content of bioactive compounds, while the content of senkyunolide A had significant negative correlation with commodity grades (P<0.01). Average weight had no correlation with chemicals compounds. Additionally, there was significant positive correlation among the bioactive compounds (content of ferulic acid and phthalides) of different grades ofA. sinensis. The content of senkyunolide A, butylidenephthalide, and ligustilide had significant positive correlation with the content of ferulic acid. The content of ligustilide and butylidenephthalide had significant positive correlation with the content of senkyunolide A. The content of ligustilide had significant positive correlation with the content of butylidenephthalide. The basis of grades classification is related with the difference levels of the bioactive compounds.

The purpose of this study was to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of a peer helping program in a high school setting. Opinions were obtained from students, staff, peer support members, their parents, and their “clients.” A large sample was obtained for the general student survey (204 students, or 73% of the student population). The results validated the basic assumptions on which peer helping programs are founded, namely, that students most often seek out other students for help with problems and that students are thought to be capable of providing help for their peers. The results indicate that although students have confidence in one another for helping, few students said they would seek help with a problem from a peer counselor. It is thought that existing peer counseling programs are perhaps too small to adequately represent all peer groups within the school and that attempts should be made to expand membership in the program in order to reach more students. It was also indicated that students have greater confidence in a peer's ability for helping with school and relationship problems, whereas less confidence was shown for dealing with problems of a more serious nature such as suicide, death, and pregnancy. This point emphasizes the difference between peer counseling and “professional” counseling programs. It is proposed that for peer helping programs to grow the distinction between support and counseling become clear in the minds of those running the program and that alternate methods for program selection and training need to be explored.

Abstract A modified Mojonnier ether extraction method for determination of the fat content of cream was developed based on the method for milk (AOAC Official Method 989.05). The cream Babcock method (AOAC Official Method 920.111 B-C) was modified to harmonize with the milk Babcock method (AOAC Official Method 989.04) and to clarify procedural details. Using the AOAC collaborative study format, 10 laboratories tested 9 pairs of blind duplicate heat-treated cream samples with a fat range of 30-45% using both methods. The statistical performance (invalid and outlier data removed) was as follows: mean % fat = 37.932, sr = 0.125, sR = 0.151, RSDr = 0.330, RSDR = 0.398, r = 0.354, and R = 0.427 for the ether extraction method. For the Babcock method, mean % fat = 38.209, sr = 0.209, SR = 0.272, RSDr = 0.548, RSDR = 0.712, r = 0.592, and R = 0.769. Average test results for fat from the Babcock method were 0.277% (absolute fat) greater than for the Mojonnier ether extraction method. The difference between methods, as a percentage of the average fat content of the samples, was 0.73%. This agrees with differences observed between the 2 methods for milk when 10 to 17 laboratories tested 7 milk samples in blind duplicate at bimonthly intervals over a 4-year period (average difference 0.029% fat, 0.78% as a percentage of average fat content). The Mojonnier ether extraction and Babcock methods for fat in cream have been adopted by AOAC INTERNATIONAL. The new Babcock method replaced the AOAC Official Method 920.111 B-C.
