It was discovered that John Harvey Kellogg, with the help and financial support of the White family, began studying to become a doctor at the age of fourteen and headed the Battle Creek Sanatorium at a young age, which under his leadership soon became a world-famous health resort. The publishing activity of Kellogg, who was able to raise the popularity of the magazine “Good Health”, repeatedly published his ideas and recommendations in the field of healthy living. Kellogg has repeatedly heard warnings from Ellen White about trying to separate the Sanatorium from the Seventh-day Adventist Church, namely to make the institution non-denominational without promoting Adventist religious ideas. An inventor, a surgeon, a promoter of a healthy lifestyle, a lecturer who has given about five thousand public speeches – these are just some of the things he has managed to do in his life.

Therefore, the formation of a healthy generation today is one of the most important tasks facing humanity. This includes, first of all, the formation of a healthy lifestyle, the creation of various living conditions, the establishment of the material basis for the upbringing of a healthy generation, ie economic and financial support from the state.

The religious and theological basis of the components of the teachings of a healthy lifestyle of members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, namely the principles of hygiene and appearance of the faithful of this denomination, are analyzed. The purpose of the article is to determine the theological basis of the principles of hygiene and appearance of the faithful of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. The peculiarities of the Adventists' interpretation of the Holy Scriptures regarding the application of the Old Testament hygienic instructions in the conditions of modern realities are highlighted. Emphasis is placed on a number of principles in Adventism regarding the contents of a Christian's wardrobe. It is highlighted that from the Adventist point of view, it is the clothing and appearance of a person that is an important indicator of a Christian character and a silent testimony to the values that a person adheres to. It is emphasized that important in the appearance of a person are gender differences in clothing, which clearly indicates a male or female identity. Emphasis is placed on regular consumption of sufficient water to prevent and improve physical condition, and good health in turn is a reliable basis for the perception of high moral values, including spiritual ones. The analysis of the theological basis of the principles of hygiene and appearance of members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church presents a holistic concept of Adventists, namely: human health is three interrelated components: physical, mental and spiritual. The key thesis of the theological basis in Adventism on hygiene and appearance is the following statement: there is no point in disturbing the Lord's prayers if one ignores the moral principles and laws of hygiene and appearance that are already set forth in the Scriptures and understandable because most diseases is the result of a wrong way of life and a departure from moral and ethical Christian values.

I believe this is one of the earliest case reports of precocious puberty in American medical literature. I take the liberty to acquaint you with an extraordinary case of prematurity in a child, which fell under my observation in this city. Matilda H. was born of a white family in low circumstances, the 31st of September, 1827. She came into this world with her mammae perfectly formed, and the mons veneris covered with hair, as much as a girl between thirteen and fourteen years old; when precisely three years of age the menses made their appearance, and have continued to reappear regularly every month until the present time, and as copious as any woman might have them-each period lasting four days. She is now four years and five months old; she measures forty-two inches and a half in height, French measure; her features are regular; she has a rosy complexion; her hair chestnut colour; her eyes bluish-gray; she is what may be called handsome; and conformation of her body is very strong; her mammae are now of the size of a full-grown orange, and the dimensions of the pelvis are, in my opinion, such as to enable her to bear children when eight years old, and very likely sooner. She constantly enjoys good health.

ObjectivesWe have previously developed the Child Healthy Living Practices in Family (CHLPF) Index and found that the CHLPF Index was concurrently associated with the health of children at age 3. In this follow-up study, we aimed to examine whether healthy living practices in family at age 3 predicted health of children at school age.Design and settingData came from the Taiwan Birth Cohort Study designed to assess the development and health of 24 200 children born in 2005.ParticipantsA total of 18 553 cohort members whose mothers or primary caregivers had completed 6-month, 3-year, 5-year and 8-year surveys were included for analysis, representing a response rate of 87.3%.Outcome measuresA multiple logistic regression model was used to test the relationship between mother-rated children’s health at age 8 and the CHLPF Index level, after controlling for sex, birth outcomes, family structure, parental education, residential area, family income and mother-rated child’s health at age 3.ResultsThe percentage of mother-rated good health at age 8 was 79.7%. Compared with the low CHLPF level, the adjusted OR of mother-rated good health was 1.38 (95% CI 1.19 to 1.60), 1.21 (95% CI 1.10 to 1.35) and 1.17 (95% CI 1.07 to 1.29), respectively, for high, high–low and mid-low CHLPF levels. Moreover, the prevalence of mother-rated good health at age 8 with high-level CHLPF Index in the low-income group was similar to that of the high-income group (83.72% vs 84.18%); the prevalence with low-level CHLPF Index in the low-income group was much lower than that of the high-income group (70.21% vs 78.98%).ConclusionsOur study underscores that high level of healthy living practices in early childhood is positively associated with good health at school age, particularly for children from disadvantaged families.

Background and objectives: The effectiveness of short-term focused educational programs to change health behaviors across large populations seems to be poorly described so far. The main aim of the present study was to evaluate an age-specific 45-min educational program, designed in accordance with the current U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and U.S. Department of Agriculture dietary guidelines and physical activity (PA) guidelines, among adolescents and adults. Materials and Methods: We evaluated the health-promoting lifestyle habits by the Health-Promoting Lifestyle Profile (HPLP-II) at baseline and following 6–8 weeks post-education in a nationally representative sample of Serbian adolescents and adults (n = 3822). Results: The percentage of adolescents eating 3–5 servings of vegetables per day increased at follow-up (20.1% versus 23.1%, p = 0.001), with significantly more adolescents regularly reading food labels (from 12.2% at baseline to 14.2% at follow-up; p = 0.02). Taken together, mean HPLP-II scores in adolescents significantly improved for both diet (0.05 points; p < 0.0001) and PA (0.09 points; p < 0.0001), and for PA in adults (0.08 points; p < 0.0001). Hierarchical multiple regression analysis revealed that our model as a whole (including time of testing as a predictor variable, and age and gender as control variables) explained 3.0% of the variance in mean HPLP-II scores for diet (p = 0.942) and 3.0% for PA (p = 0.285) in adolescents, and 1.1% of the variance in HPLP-II scores for diet (p = 0.781) and 1.9% for PA (p = 0.075) in adults, respectively. Conclusions: It appears that a brief focused education can positively tackle unhealthy lifestyles in promoting good health in general population. Different modes of interactive communication used here appeared to strengthen participants’ capacities for lifestyle changes.

The pursuit of good health continues to be a popular pursuit in the 21st century, however not everyone understands it in the holistic sense which encompasses physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, social, and societal dimensions. Further, many do not understand how these dimensions influence their health, which leads to misconceptions and making faulty choices in healthy lifestyle practices. Leisure is strongly correlated to health and leisure activities which have been shown to have both direct and indirect effects on one’s health. Research also indicates gender inequalities in leisure disadvantage women disproportionately. This paper first summarizes the understandings of misconceptions, health, leisure, tourism, and their intersections, then introduces a small sample pilot study on the health concepts and misconceptions of female university students in Hungary.

Abstract: Good living behavior is a community habit that upholds health aspects, such as managing cleanliness and environmental health, maintaining physical and psychological fitness, and providing adequate nutritional intake to achieve good health standards. Community Service Activities regarding the culture of healthy living during this pandemic were carried out by a teaching team from the Faculty of Humanities Sciences, Padjadjaran University. The activity method used is education with techniques of extension, consultation, and diffusion of knowledge which are all held virtually. To obtain comprehensive data, the implementation team distributed a questionnaire about the culture of healthy living to the primary target public, namely students of the Faculty, and the secondary target public, namely student families. Activities were carried out in July 2020 in three stages, namely the preparation, implementation, and evaluation stages. The results of the activity showed that PPM activities regarding healthy cultural behavior to the public of students and their families were well organized and following the protocol for preventing the transmission of Covid-19.
