The aims of this research is to know the level of anxiety faced by students at ABA-UMI, to know the factors cause anxiety, and to know the students’ strategies in reducing anxiety in learning English. This research used descriptive qualitative method. The writers focused on observing the level of anxiety faced by ABA students. The writers took two classes as the repondents in 2013-2014 academic years. The writers did classroom observation and interviewed nine (9) students who tended to feel anxious in learning English. The observation was conducted three meetings in speaking class and the writers used video recording to record and collect the data needed.The writers found three levels of anxiety faced by ABA students; they were mild anxiety, moderate anxiety and severe anxiety level. The first level can be seen in physical response from the students such as nervous, afraid, sweating, and embarrassed. But, the students could control their anxiety by motivating themselves to learn. The second level of anxiety was moderate level. The student did not participate in class (silent), cold hands and sweating. In this level, the students could control his/her anxiety so that he/she could participate in learning.And the last level of anxiety found was severe anxiety. The writers found that there were two students who felt anxious. The students had different symptoms such as cold hands, sweating, and their head feel heavy. This anxiety appeared when students could not overcome his/her worry. In this level, the students could not control their anxiety so that they could not participate even avoid the learning activity.

Motivation is one of the most significant things in learning process. Without motivation, the purposes of learning is tough to be achieved. When learners have it in learning process, they will more understand with the materials, especially English. The goal of this study is to know how students’ motivation in learning English of eight grade at MTs Mathla’ul Anwar Sukaguna. This study used descriptive qualitative method. The data was carried out by using a questionnaire of students’ motivation which have ten items adapted from Clement, Dornyei, & Noels (1994) and used an interview which have five questions‎. The data were processed in the percentage and descriptive explanation. The main findings described that the learners are entirety highly motivated. Based on this study’s findings, students of eighth grade at MTs Mathla’ul Anwar have that motivation, it is based on the outcome of questionnaire and interview. From the output of questionnaire, most of students choose the agree statements. It means that students has an savor in learning English. Furthermore, the yield of interview expressed that students have highly interesting in learning English. But in this case, the teacher have to be more creative in using the media, strategy, or delivered material in teaching learning activity to improve students’ motivation.

The goal of this study is to find out to what extent the Use of Vokoscreen as a Learning Video on students’ speaking skill in E-Learning at SMP Yapidh district Jati Asih. This research used descriptive qualitative method. The participants are 35 students on grade IX at SMP Yapidh. These students are chosen because they would have practical examination. The instruments are observation and interview. The result showed that the most students answered paid attention to the researchers’ explanation, they used vokoscreen application well, they joined actively in learning activity, they made an interesting presentation based on a topic, felt happy using vokoscreen as a learning video, and more confident in speaking English activity. Only a few students could not maximal in this learning because their internet connection and some private problems. The interview result showed that all students said positive answer about their opinion used vokoscreen application on speaking activity. There are 35 participants answered “like” and 2 participants answered dislike. Based on the results of this investigate could conclude that the foremost students on grade nineth at SMPIT Yapidh are propelled and appreciated on speaking activity in e-learning using vokoscreen  as learning video, in reality the result of this inquire about demonstrated that the students more certainty and incremen their briefly speaking English.

ABSTRACT This research aims to analyze the effectiveness of YouTube-based videos as a media in learning daily English conversation for children and to identify factors affecting learning daily English conversation for children by using YouTube-based videos as a media. To obtain the aims, this research uses six children whose ages vary from ten to twelve years old lived in Asrama Yatim Mizan Amanah located at Jalan Salihara, Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta as the source of data. Descriptive qualitative method is applied as the research design. In collecting data, the researchers gather the result of learning activities in pre-tests, treatments, and post-tests. Meanwhile, in analyzing the data, the researchers compare the children’s pre-test score with their post-test score to see the development of learning which show their competence before and after being treated. in this case, the research is focused on two topics, Greeting and Introduction in English. The children are introduced some expressions of greeting and introduction in English children by using YouTube-based videos, then some roleplays or conversation containing expressions of greeting and introduction are shown to the children by watching together YouTube-based videos. The last, the children are asked to recognize and practice the expression of greeting and introduction in English. The result shows that the usage of YouTube based video as a media in learning daily English conversation for children is considered effective. Four out of six children are able to memorize new expressions of both greeting and introduction in English, whereas the two other children remains stagnant after learning using YouTube based videos. It is found that there are factors that affect learning English for children by using this media, they are; personality, motivation and attitude, intelligent, learners’ belief, and personality. The most influential factors affecting learning are motivation and attitude. The successful children have these factors stronger rather than the stagnant children. Based on the result, the effectiveness in learning English using YouTube-based videos will be stronger if it is supported by an interactive and conducive learning atmosphere. The learning atmosphere should be considered to achieve a stronger speaking English proficiency. Key words: YouTube based-videos, language learning, daily English conversation ABSTRAK Penelitian ini ditujukan untuk menganalisis keefektifan penggunaan video berbasis YouTube sebagai media dalam belajar percakapan bahasa Inggris sehari-hari pada anak-anak dan untuk mengidentifikasi faktor yang mempengaruhi pembelajaran percakapan bahasa Inggris sehari-hari pada anak-anak yang menggunakan video berbasis YouTube. Untuk mencapai tujuan tersebut, penelitian ini menjadikan enam orang anak berumur sepuluh hingga dua belas tahun yang tinggal di Asrama Yatim Mizan Amanah Jalan Salihara, Pasar Minggu, Jakarta Selatan sebagai sumber data. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode descriptive qualitative. Disini, proses pengumpulan data meliputi pengumpulan hasil pre-tests, treatment, dan post-test. Sementara itu, proses analisis data dilakukan dengan cara membandingkan skor pre-test dengan skor post-test pembelajar untuk melihat perkembangan pembelajaran yang menunjukkan perkembangan anak-anak sebelum dan sesudah pembelajaran. Penelitian difokuskan pada dua topik pembelajaran yaitu sapaan dan perkenalan bahasa Inggris. Dalam hal ini anak-anak diajak mengenal ekspresi sapaan dan perkenalan dalam Bahasa Inggris melalui video yang ada pada YouTube. Kemudian menonton beberapa simulasi dari perilaku menyapa dan berkenalan dalam Bahasa Inggris juga melalui video You-Tube. Pada tahap terakhir, para pembelajar ini diminta untuk berlatih mengingat dan mempraktekkan ungkapan sapaan dan perkenalan dalam Bahasa Inggris Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan video berbasis YouTube sebagai media belajar percakapan bahasa Inggris sehari-hari adalah efektif. Empat dari 6 anak mampu mengingat kosakata sapaan dan perkenalan yang baru secara signifikan setelah belajar menggunakan media video berbasis You Tube, meskipun ada 2 anak yang tidak mengalami peningkatan. Ada beberapa faktor yang memengaruhi pembelajaran pada anak-anak tersebut diantaranya kepribadian, motivasi dan sikap, kecerdasan, dan keyakinan. Faktor yang paling berpengaruh pada pembelajaran adalah motivasi dan sikap. Anak-anak yang mengalami peningkatan belajar yang pesat memiliki faktor motivasi dan sikap yang lebih kuat dibanding anak-anak yang tidak mengalami peningkatan. Berdasarkan hasil tersebut, keefektifan dalam belajar percakapan Bahasa Inggris sehari-hari menggunakan video YouTube menjadi lebih besar jika didukung oleh atmosfer belajar yang interaktif dan kondusif. Hal ini mesti diperhatikan guna mencapai kemampuan Bahasa Inggris lisan yang lebih baik. Kata Kunci: Video YouTube, Pembelajaran Bahasa, Percakapan dasar dalam Bahasa Inggris.

Speaking is one of the productive skills that should be learned and mastered by English learners which gives them the ability to communicate effectively in this global world. However, most learners face difficulties in learning English, especially in mastering speaking skills. The lack of motivation in learning English is the most common problem faced by learners. With the development of technology, employing Zoom Application in learning English is recommended for fun and exciting learning. This research aims to analyze how applying Zoom Application can improve English learners’ motivation to speak in English. The descriptive qualitative method is used in this research and to gain the data, the researcher used some instruments, there are questionnaires and interviews, which were carried out to 30 learners in English Zoom Club as subjects of the research. The result of this research suggested that applying Zoom Application is very interesting since it provides such motivating and stimulating activities for English learners. Moreover, using Zoom Application make English learners have an appropriate platform and new friends to practice improving their speaking skill at the same time. Keywords:  Speaking Skill, Motivation in Language Learning, Zoom Application

The current research was a descriptive qualitative method that aimed to describe the TEFL methods applied by EFL teachers in Indonesia. Specifically, it aimed to know what the primary methods used by EFL teachers, how they delivered the methods, and what are the advantages and the disadvantages of applying the method in Indonesia case. The focus of the current research was on elementary teachers. Data were gained through interview and classroom observation. The research has shown that the primary methods used by EFL teachers were Grammar Translation Method and Direct Method. They combined those two methods and delivered them using English and Bahasa.

Melengkan is a custom in the plateau of Gayo performed at a wedding expressed in poetical, lyrical or proverbial form.  The study is aimed at identifying the types and uses of figures of speech in Melengkan of   Gayo wedding supported by the concept of figures of speech proposed by Kosasih (2007). The data were collected through observation and a video-recording of the traditional Gayo wedding. as well as interviews with melengkan performers under descriptive qualitative method (Best, 1982). The figures of speech used in Melengkan also reflect the cultural value of Gayo community with points of local wisdom. The findings showed that there were four classifications of figures of speech: Comparison, Substitution, Addition or Amplification, and Omission or suppression used in Melengkan.  The cultural values of Melengkan are for remembrance of local wisdom, warnings from customary philosophy, religion, and also for giving advice and recalling the history and beauty of Melengkan speech. The context of using Melengkan is to perpetuate and reflect cultural values, namely, politeness, respect, speaking softly, friendliness and resoluteness. These findings imply the importance of conserving Melengkan as a part of the Gayo culture in every part of life.

This research was intended to find out the students’ responses toward the implementation of crossword puzzle techniques in teaching vocabulary to the seventh-grade students at Junior High School. A descriptive qualitative method was used in this study. In collecting data the researcher used two instruments: classroom observation throughout the implementation of crossword puzzle in the classroom and from students’ interviews.  The researcher chose class VII B as respondents which consisted of 35 students. From the result, the researcher concluded that teaching-learning vocabulary by using crossword puzzle made the students’ easy to memorize the vocabulary and made the students’ more active in the class and the result also showed good responses from students, most of students felt interest and  like to learn vocabulary in a descriptive text by using crossword puzzle.

Vocabulary is one of the important elements of the English language. There are many media which can be used in teaching vocabulary to young learners. In this research, the researcher used video on YouTube to teach vocabulary. The research focuses on how students’ engagement during the implementation of video on YouTube in teaching vocabulary at an English course. In this research, the researcher used descriptive–qualitative research, and observation and documentation were used for collecting the data. This research was conducted at an English course in Bogor, in which the participants are seven young learners at grade two. The findings of this research were classified into two themes; students’ response to the classroom activities and the teacher instruction, and student’s engagement to the use of video on YouTube. It is revealed that most young learners at an English course were engaged during the implementation of the video on YouTube in teaching vocabulary. They also gave positive responses to the learning activity and preferred learning English vocabulary by using video on YouTube.

During covid-19 pandemic, teachers need to change the activity from a face-to-face into distance learning activity. There may many methods and media used by the teacher, one of them is video. One of the aims is to assist teachers in explaining the material and attracting students' interest. Hence, this study aims to find out the benefits of the use video in teaching and learning activity in pandemic situation. In this study, the researchers investigated what the benefit of the use of video for English learning as perceived by students in Covid-19 pandemic situation. the researchers used qualitative method in this research. The instruments used in this study are questionnaire and interview. The researchers took the data from two classes, which were XI KI I and XI KI III of SMK SMTI Bandarlampung.The research findings shows that students had positive experience when using  video as medium in teaching and learning English as a foreign language. Moreover, most of the students agreed that video gives the advantages to the students, such as the increasing of motivation in learning, acquiring new vocabularies, and improving the pronunciation of Englsih words. The research aims to describe the visually impaired students’ learningEnglish using Total Physical Response (TPR). The research may contribute to thedevelopment of English learning model for the visually impaired students whoneed attention in their right to get better education and improvement in learningEnglish using Total Physical Response (TPR). The research method wasdescriptive qualitative method. The study was conducted at YaketunisYogyakarta. There were fifteen visually impaired students who becameparticipants in this research. The sources of the data were (1) visually impairedstudents as the participants of the study, (2) recorded actions (video-taped), (3)recorded interviews (audio-taped), and (4) field note.The result showed that visually impaired students had new experience inlearning English effectively, actively, stress-free and joyful. Total PhysicalResponses handled that students’ limitation in visualization to get informationthrough voice by their senses of hearing. The students practiced giving responsesof some instructions, pronunced some words and repeated the words many timesby maximizing their sense of hearing to activate their psychomotor competence.This process of learning activities supported them in developing their skill inmastering vocabulary, expression, and language command.
