This study aimed to investigate the learners’ levels of ideal L2 self and Willingness to Communicate (WTC) not only inside but also outside the EFL classrooms and the correlation between these two constructs. Thus, the research was designed as a qualitative study, and the correlational research design was implemented to seek answers to research questions. The participants were 61 EFL learners who studied at the preparatory school of a state university. The data collected by conducting the ideal L2 self scale and WTC survey for inside and outside the classroom were analyzed through descriptive statistics, and Pearson correlation test after the normality of the data was ensured. The findings showed that the vast majority of learners had moderate levels of ideal L2 self and WTC, and a small minority reported low levels of WTC and ideal L2 self. Besides, the findings pointed out that WTC and ideal L2 self are correlated with a statistically significant relationship in a positive manner. The study first discusses the contradictory and concurrent findings with respect to previous studies conducted in different contexts like Japan, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Iran and Turkey, then concludes with recommendations for teachers and further research.

Advent of technology has caused growing interest in using computers to convert conventional paper and pencil-based testing (Henceforth PPT) into Computer-based testing (Henceforth CBT) in the field of education during last decades. This constant promulgation of computers to reshape the conventional tests into computerized format permeated the language assessment field in recent years. But, enjoying advantages of computers in language assessment raise the concerns of the effects that computerized mode of testing may have on CBT performance. Thus, this study investigated the score comparability of Vocabulary in Use test taken by 30 Iranian undergraduate students studying at a state university located in Chabahar region of Iran (CMU) to see whether scores from two administrations of testing mode were different. Therefore, two similar tests were administered to the male and female participants on two testing mode occasions with four weeks interval. Employing One-Way ANOVA statistical test to compare the mean scores and Pearson Correlation test to find the relationship between mode preference and performance revealed that two sets of scores were not different and gender difference was not also considered a variable that might affect performance on CBT. Based on the results, computerized version of the test can be considered a favorable alternative for the state undergraduate students in Iran.

The purpose of this descriptive quantitative research was to systematically investigate the association among EFL learners' Self-Regulation (SR), Locus of Control (LC), and their Willingness to Communicate (WTC). To fulfill this purpose, 222 male and female EFL learners, within the age range of 20 to 32 (Mage = 26) were selected based on the convenience sampling strategy. These participants were asked to fill in three questionnaires, namely the English versions of the Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire (Pintrich, Smith, Garcia, & McKeachie, 1991), the Internal Control Index (Duttweiler, 1984), and the WTC Scale (McCroskey, 1992). Since the assumptions of normality of distribution were partially violated, the research questions were answered using parametric and non-parametric tests. The obtained results led the researchers to conclude that significant and positive correlations exist between SR and WTC, SR and LC, and LC and WTC. Furthermore, considering WTC the predicted variable, a regression analysis revealed that LC is a better predictor of WTC than SR. The study finally presents a discussion on the results and provides some implications for those engaged in EFL learning and instruction.

This study illuminates the power of farmer groups as avenues for mobilizing farmers around a common objective, thus adds to the knowledge base of extension education.  A quantitative approach involving the use of a correlational research design was adopted to describe the association between group cohesion and application of BHFP. The target population was 1950 farmers from 35 farmer groups. Stratified random sampling was used to select a sample of 112 farmers from the population. Data were collected by use of a self-administered structured questionnaire developed by the researcher. Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) was used for data analysis, which involved both descriptive and inferential statistics. According to the results, most (70.5%) of thefarmers felt that the level of cohesion among members of their groups was very high. Pearson correlation test indicated that there was a weak negative significant correlation between group size and level of cohesion (r = -.27, N =112, p <.05) and a positive moderate significant correlation between group cohesion and application of BHFP (r =.39, N =112, p <.05). The level of application of BHFP was high with the majority of the farmers (75.9%) scoring between 71 and 75 out of 75 points. It was concluded that group cohesion is related to the application of BHFP. However, there is a need for the group managers to limit the group sizes to maintain a high level of cohesion, and sustain a conducive environment that triggers a team climate that supports the application of BHFP.

The nature of a woman is childbirth, all women at the time of labor need to have a good labour  and give birth to a healthy and perfect baby. Childbirth can be normal, but also many in the process of labor that experienced obstacles so that it is done with the procedure of surgery sectio caesaria (SC). Childbirth with  surgery for some mothers is a scary thing so that not a few mothers who experience anxiety before SC is done. Anxiety is a feeling that is not clear and worried because there is something that threatens one's security. Anxiety in each person is certainly not the same, this anxiety can lead to various changes in the body's system can even interfere with heart function and result in changes in cardiac output. Changes in cardiac output may result in changes in the patient's blood pressure that may affect the success of SC. This research use correlational research design with csoss sectional approach. The location of research is premedication room of operation room of ORPEHA Islamic Hospital Tulungagung with the number of 32 respondents. The results showed the mean cardiac output value of 7625.62. The results of statistical data analysis with Pearson correlation test obtained 0,000 significance results so Ho is rejected which means there is an association between anxiety with cardiac output in patients with SC surgery with large correlation pearson 1, which means the strength of the relationship is very strong. This happens because anxiety can affect the production of catecholamines and cortisol, where this hormone can stimulate the occurrence of vasodilation of blood vessels resulting in blood flowing rapidly and much so that oxygen is distributed more, thus in people who are anxious will an increase in cardiac output. The conclusion of this study is that there is an association between anxiety with cardiac output in patients with preoperative sectio caesarea at the operating room installation of Islamic Orpeha tulungagung public hospital with the strength of the relationship of 1.

This present study probes the relationship between English as a Foreign Language (EFL) students’ language anxiety and their willingness to communicate. The research questions are threefold: a) What are the types of anxiety experienced by the students, b) What is the anxiety level of them, and c) What is the correlation between foreign language anxiety (FLA) and the willingness to communicate (WTC) of the students. Quantitative descriptive approach was employed and the data were collected from 98 participants in an English Department by making use of the Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale (FLCAS) and Likert-type WTC Scale. Pearson Correlation test was run to provide answers of the research questions. The results of this study indicated a strong positive correlation between learners’ foreign language classroom anxiety and their willingness to communicate. Fear of negative evaluation, test anxiety, and communication apprehension were the students’ types of anxiety. In addition, students had high level of anxiety, which in turn, made them difficult in dealing with language learning process and tend to have low desire to speak. Therefore, this study tries to highlight whether anxiety is a significant barrier to WTC, to determine the types and level of FLA, as well as to provide suggestions to help minimize the anxiety.

This paper aims at examining the familiarity of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners at Najran University with English collocations and the strategies being used when translating them into Arabic. The data of this study are collected from 40 female EFL learners of the English Department at Najran University. The participants’ familiarity with English collocations is measured by means of a two-part test adopted from Gyllstad (2007). A translation test consisting of 48 collocations in both short texts and short sentences has been used to determine the participants’ familiarity with translation strategies when translating English collocations into Arabic. Results show that Najran University EFL learners’ knowledge of collocations is unsatisfactory and below what is expected from them as English language major students. The results of the Pearson correlation test indicate a positive relationship between the learners’ familiarity with English collocations and their ability to translate them into Arabic using different translation strategies.

English Department Students as EFL learners must be able to use correct grammar of English well either in oral or written form; nevertheless, based on a prelimenary observation many of the English Department Students of Faculty of Languages, Letters and Arts of State University of Padang committed grammatical deviations when they communicated in English. This article aims at describing the action research about using OHP/LCDP, Role Plays/Language Games, and written exercises as the efforts to improve Grammatical Ability of the English Department Students. The research was carried out in two cycles, and the subjects were a class of education program consisting of thirty students, who were taking Structure 2 at that time. The findings of the research showed that using OHP/LCDP as media of teaching, Role Play/Language Games as oral exercises, and asking the subjects to do two kinds of written exercises (homework from their handbook as usual and their own sentences/paragraphs as assignments) in teaching Structure 2 communicatively improved the students’ grammatical ability either in oral or written forms much more significantly. Their grammatically-oral ability increased by 14.5 points/73.5% (from 21.8 to 36.3) whereas their grammatically-written ability increased by 13.1 points/82.3% (from 19.1 to 32.2) on the average. Thus, the research questions were answered positively, and the hyphotheses were proven.

This study was designed with an aim to investigate the relationship between willingness to communicate (WTC) and learner autonomy (LA) in EFL settings at a Turkish university context. The primary purpose of the study was to reveal the possible statistically significant relationship between L2 WTC and learner autonomy of EFL learners in the classroom setting. The study was based on a mixed-methods research design. 211 students majoring at the Department of English Language and Literature of a state university in Turkey participated in the study. The instruments which were used to collect data were a willingness to communicate scale, a learner autonomy scale, and classroom observation. The results revealed that there was a moderate but significant relationship between EFL learners’ WTC and LA. The autonomy levels of the EFL learners had a predictive role in their L2 WTC. The difference between the self-reported L2 WTC and the behavioural L2 WTC of the Turkish EFL students was higher when the autonomy level of the students was lower. Based on the results, implications for enhancing L2 WTC of EFL learners are discussed.

This article describes the findings of a national survey of State Hazard Mitigation Officers (SHMOs) in U.S. states and territories in order to gain a greater understanding of the roles that they play in assisting local governments to build the capacity required to successfully develop and implement Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)-funded Hazard Mitigation Assistance (HMA) grants, an important but understudied aspect of hazard mitigation governance. The research questions focus on: (1) How states and territories enable local governments to develop and implement HMA grants and (2) SHMOs’ opinions regarding their perceived capacity and effectiveness in assisting local governments to develop and implement HMA grants. Results show that while states and territories are relatively well-equipped to perform general administrative duties required by FEMA, SHMOs expressed wide variation in their capacity to assist local governments to develop and implement HMA grants. This was particularly evident with regard to the delivery of specific technical assistance measures required to develop HMA grants. Survey responses also highlight modest levels of participation in FEMA-designed efforts to delegate responsibility to states and territories and low levels of participation in programs that offer pre-application funding to local governments to help them develop HMA grant applications. These findings should concern FEMA as the agency embarks on the implementation of the Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities program, an ambitious pre-disaster hazard mitigation grant initiative.
