One of the most important components of the territorial socio-economic complex of a city (especially a large one) is the system of urban passenger transport, which, in turn, consists of two subsystems: urban public transport and personal vehicles. In 2000-2020. many large and medium-sized cities in Russia are going through a period of active motorization. Izhevsk is no exception in this regard. The level of motorization of the population has been increasing in recent years both in the city and in the Udmurt Republic as a whole. There is a growing need to reduce the flow of personal vehicles towards more active use of public transport. Urban public transport (for all its significant scale) has, as a rule, 2-3 owners and therefore is largely manageable, which cannot be said about personal vehicles. It is not possible to force car owners to switch to public transport by order. But it is possible to create such conditions when the resident himself does not use his own car, but gives preference to public transport. For example, to organize the work of a single parking space, in which the placement of paid parking lots will make it unprofitable to visit many of the most attractive objects (especially in the central part of the city) by private vehicle. An example of such relevant work is shown in the proposed article. By order of the Administration of Izhevsk, the authors of the article have identified the most optimal locations for paid car parks. The choice was determined based on the results of step-by-step work to assess: the location of the potential of Izhevsk public transport, the intensity of traffic flows, the density of the population, the availability of existing parking areas, points of attraction for vehicles.

Abstract As an effective method of improving the attractiveness of urban public transport and alleviating urban traffic congestion, bus lanes play an important role in the urban public transport system. The research on the capacity of bus lanes is conducive to improve the operation efficiency of urban bus roads and improve the service level of urban public transport. To obtain the maximum capacity of the bus lane, on one hand, the empirical formula can be used for theoretical calculation, and on the other hand, the simulation model can be established for analysis and verification. Based on the idea of simulation, a method using Vissim is proposed, called MTCS (Minimum Traffic Capacity Substitution Method). The method divides the bus lane into different sections by intersections and stops, establishes simulation model of the bus lane to calculate the traffic capacity of each section such as vehicle speed and flow and select the minimum traffic capacity of the sections as the traffic capacity of the bus lane, which is verified by using the road saturation. The simulation process uses the actual travel speed and traffic flow of the bus lane as evaluation indicators, with the aim of maximizing the road traffic flow while the actual speed of vehicles on the road is close to the desired speed, thus achieving the desired road traffic state. To verify and improve the effectiveness of the method, its analysis results are compared with the empirical formula, and various methods of enhancing traffic capacity are quantitatively simulated. The parameters of the simulation model are set by the actual bus lane example, and the experimental results show that by the methods of modifying the stop-station mode and the signal-lamp cycle, 10% and 14% improvements can be achieved, respectively. This has a good reference value for the construction of bus lanes and the adjustment of road facilities.

Examined is the importance of transport accessibility of universities when choosing their Alma Mater by applicants. The analysis of the use of passenger transport by students in the city of Volgograd — the largest city in the Russian Federation with a population of more than 1 million people; the data of a questionnaire survey of university students of the city, most of whom live in the most remote areas from the center, are presented. It describes the types of public transport that students use to get to their place of study, the content characteristics of the route structure, including transfers, fare, reliability and comfort of transport, stability of the schedule, travel time, waiting for public transport, etc. The shortcomings of the most popular student routes and the city’s transport system, which is a complex and extensive network, are identified; conclusions are drawn about the transport accessibility of universities and recommendations for improving transport transportation along popular student routes.

This article discusses the organizational and economic problems of the functioning of public transport in the city of Novosibirsk using the example of the Municipal treasury enterprise ‘Passenger Motor Transport Enterprise No. 4’. The main objective of the study is to find ways to solve problems which arise at this enterprise and which are common for urban passenger transport in a large city. The article analyzes the results of the enterprise, as well as the transport situation in Novosibirsk. The growth of the private car fleet significantly worsened the state of the urban environment in most cities of Russia and created a number of difficult to solve problems. Based on the study of solutions to similar problems in other cities and countries, the conclusion is drawn about the need for the accelerated development of urban passenger transport in comparison with other modes of transport. The search for effective ways to influence the behavior of transport users will make it possible to create a ‘healthy city’ that forms the necessary safety and quality of life for citizens.

The paper deals with the issue of delays of public transport vehicles at the signal controlled junctions. Based on the road traffic survey results, the average values of vehicle delays were determined. By using those values, it is possible to define time savings for the vehicles and mainly for passengers that are transported. The time savings were determined based on the relationships and coefficients defined in this paper.

The aim is to study the congestion of urban passenger transport in the historical part of Bratislava for the possibility of introducing crowdsourcing technology. The visual methods of examination are used in work. According to the results of the study, data were obtained on the congestion of urban passenger transport and its distribution by hours of the day at the entrances to the historic part of the city. The obtained results indicate the possibility of using crowd shipping technology in off-peak periods. Monitoring of public transport flows in the urban core will identifying the distribution of travellers and contribute to understanding the time window for implementing crowd shipping technology during the day, minimal whit influence on the other participants of the transport process. The peak traffic load is observed on the routes passing through the Slovak National Rebellion (SNP) square in direct downtown of the city, from 8 am to 9 am and from 4-6 pm in the evening, and from 7 am to 8 am in the morning and 5-6 pm for the routes passing through the SNP bridge across the river Danube. A new way to monitoring the number of passengers in public transport was suggested. The paper provides credits for future development sharing technology and sustainable development of transport in Slovakia. The results could be usfull for transport policy and regularities for local government in Bratislava in case of apply new delivery technology.

Introduction. Recently, in large and medium-sized cities, the increase in traffic has been exacerbated by the growth of motorization and the lack of development of the road network. Increasing vehicle traffic to a critical level leads to overcapacity of the arteries and, as a consequence, increases the level of delay. Public urban mass passenger transport is one of the most vulnerable groups in this regard. In order to unload the city’s street network, it is necessary to reduce the level of road traffic. One of the effective measures to deal with this problem is to increase the attractiveness of urban mass passenger transport, i.e. to ensure an adequate level of service for passengers including high speed, which can be increased by giving priority to bus traffic. One of the prospects for prioritizing public urban transport is the development of individual lanes or streets for urban rolling stock only. Due to the lack of criteria for the allocation of separate lanes for urban rolling stock, they have begun to appear in the vast majority on the main streets of the city. There are a large number of urban highways used for the operation of only one public transport route with dedicated lanes on them. The need for such arrangements is questionable. It is therefore necessary to formulate the criteria that justify the need for a separate urban passenger lane on a given stretch of the city network. Thus, the purpose of this work is to identify patterns between traffic parameters and the parameters of the urban public passenger transport programme, which will determine the criteria for the need for a separate lane for urban land transport on each individual stretch of the network.Materials and methods. This article deals with the method of determining the need for a separate lane for public urban passenger transport on a given stretch of the road network. In order to improve the quality of the transport of passengers, a mathematical model has been developed, based on such indicators as the level of traffic delay and the share of passenger traffic in the total flow of participants. Results. The necessary conditions have been laid down the strict implementation of which determines the need to ensure the priority of urban mass public passenger transport on the section of the city’s street network under consideration.Discussion and conclusion. The dependencies obtained make it possible to identify the need to ensure the priority of urban transport.

The article considers the influence of the public transport fare on the population`s mobility structure in a large city that does not have off-street transport with a population of 800 thousand people. The authors used the criterion of transferring the financial costs of travel by various transport modes into time consumption costs. The city transport macro-model considered the costs of transportation by individual and public transport, taxis, short-term rental cars (car sharing system), as well as by cycling and walking. According to the authors, if public transport fares were canceled, its share in the total mobility structure could increase from 35 to 42 %.

Continuous, automatic measurements of road traffic volume allow the obtaining of information on daily, weekly or seasonal fluctuations in road traffic volume. They are the basis for calculating the annual average daily traffic volume, obtaining information about the relevant traffic volume, or calculating indicators for converting traffic volume from short-term measurements to average daily traffic volume. The covid-19 pandemic has contributed to extensive social and economic anomalies worldwide. In addition to the health consequences, the impact on travel behavior on the transport network was also sudden, extensive, and unpredictable. Changes in the transport behavior resulted in different values of traffic volume on the road and street network than before. The article presents road traffic volume analysis in the city before and during the restrictions related to covid-19. Selected traffic characteristics were compared for 2019 and 2020. This analysis made it possible to characterize the daily, weekly and annual variability of traffic volume in 2019 and 2020. Moreover, the article attempts to estimate daily traffic patterns at particular stages of the pandemic. These types of patterns were also constructed for the weeks in 2019 corresponding to these stages of the pandemic. Daily traffic volume distributions in 2020 were compared with the corresponding ones in 2019. The obtained results may be useful in terms of planning operational and strategic activities in the field of traffic management in the city and management in subsequent stages of a pandemic or subsequent pandemics.

Dispersion of air pollutants is caused often by vehicular emissions. It is necessary to define correctly parameters, which influence on emissions. In this article analysis of the parameters and calculations of Saint-Petersburg roads are shown. According to results, measures to improve the air state are defined. Solving of this ecological problem is implementation of development programs of urban public transport, the use of fuel with improved environmental characteristics, the development of electric modes of transport, traffic management methods to increase the capacity of the road and road network in the city.
