Analysis of the carrying capacity of agricultural land is an analysis to determine the carrying capacityof land to the caloric needs of the population. Analysis of the carrying capacity of agricultural land canalso find out whether an area has or has not food self-sufficiency based on caloric needs of the population.The implication of this analysis is that it can find the optimal population that can be supported by existingagricultural land. From this analysis it can be seen that the area of crops and agricultural productivity aretwo factors that can increase the carrying capacity of agricultural land.

Forage is the main feed of buffalo in smallholder farms. The need of forage will increase along to the increased demand of buffalo population. Buffaloes are kept as semi-intensive in natural grassland, house yard and integrated with agricultural land. Forages availability for buffalos are low in the dry season. The aim of this research is to measure the potential forage and the strategy for self-sufficiency of forage for buffalo in Province of Banten. The research was conducted in buffalo pasture (natural and integrated with paddy fields) managed by smallholder farmers in Lebak and Serang Regencies, Banten Province. Parameters measured include: (1) botanical composition of forage, (2) forage carrying capacity, (3) types of feed crops in buffalo pastures, (4) quality of silage and hay products from buffalo pasture. The results showed that botanical composition was varied with predominant vegetation dominance was grasses (56.55-95.94%), low and varied carrying capacity (0.29 ± 0.17 - 0.98 ± 0.39 AU/ha), 24 types of forage plant were found which are potential as buffalo feed. Silage and hay from buffalo grassland were potential as feed resources in the dry season. Keywords: buffalo, natural grassland, self-sufficient feed, smallholder


The purpose of this research is a) analyzing the Land of paddy land change in South Sumatera province, and b) analyzing the capacity to support agricultural land-based food crops degraded land in Pagar Alam City. This research uses a quantitative descriptive approach, with variables are about changing land-use using the Geographic information systems (GIS). The results showed that the most extensive land-use in 2007 was mixed bush dryland agriculture (40339.45 Ha), while in 2019 was paddy land (24195.47 Ha). The result of carrying capacity land value is 4.34, which means that the region can carry out food self-sufficiency and can provide a decent living for the population. Most of Pagar Alam City region has land suitability in the range of class II-IV. In general, for the future, the area in Pagar Alam City still has the potential to be developed for agricultural activities.

Abstract Regionalization of food systems is a potential strategy to support environmental, economic and social sustainability. However, local preconditions need to be considered to assess the feasibility of such a transformation process. To better understand the potentials and perspectives of food self-sufficiency in urban and peri-urban areas, we determined the food self-sufficiency level (SSL) of a German metropolitan region, i.e., the percentage of the food demand that could be potentially provided on existing agricultural land. Main input parameters were actual food demand, agricultural productivity and its temporal variability and land availability. Furthermore, we considered changes in diet, food losses and land management. Based on current diets and agricultural productivity, the administrative region of Leipzig achieved a mean SSL of 94%, ranging from 77 to 116%. Additionally, an area of 26,932 ha, representing 12% of the regionally available agricultural land, was needed for commodities that are not cultivated regionally. Changes in food demand due to a diet shift to a more plant-based diet and reduced food losses would increase the SSL by 29 and 17%, respectively. A shift to organic agriculture would decrease the SSL by 34% due to lower crop yields compared with conventional production. However, a combination of organic agriculture with less food loss and a more plant-based diet would lead to a mean SSL of 95% (75–115%). Our results indicate the feasibility of food system regionalization in the study area under current and potential near future conditions. Addressing a combination of multiple dimensions, for example plant-based and healthier diets combined with reduced food loss and organic farming, is the most favorable approach to increase food self-sufficiency in urban and peri-urban areas and simultaneously provide synergies with social and environmental objectives.

The general objective of this research is to know how much agricultural land capacity in support of food self-sufficiency in South Minahasa regency. In particular, this study aims to know the area / region in South Minahasa regency which became the basis of the carrying capacity of food security, so that the area becomes a base bias related to population increases. Adadpun benefits of this research is expected to contribute ideas for the South Minahasa local governments and agencies involved in food security in order to address land use so as not to cause problems carrying capacity of land to food self-sufficiency. Contributing of this research is to the development of economic knowledge of the area and land resources. To achieve the objectives to be achieved in the research used a method that determines the level of the carrying capacity of crop lands with the concept of combination of theory Odum, Cristeiler, E Howard and Issard. This study found that the overall average of carrying capacity of crop lands in South Minahasa Regency is 0,414. It means that existing agricultural lands in South Minahasa Regency has not been able to perform self-sufficiency and has not been able to provide adequate food.

Food self-sufficiency policy in Indonesia relies on the sustainability of productive land that meets the requirements for carrying capacity of agricultural land. But the fact is that in various regions, the existence of agricultural land resources is increasingly being degraded in terms of quantity and quality. This study aims to evaluate paddy field with NDVI analysis with extensive GIS calculations and integrated with the food self-sufficiency formulas. Monitoring of paddy field area using remote sensing and mapping techniques has been well recognized and efficient. The research was conducted in Batang Regency, Central Java Province, Indonesia, that annually produces 104,211ton rice on average. The results showed that the production of lowland rice is sufficient to meet the daily rice needs of 897.19 gr per capita. The regency also showed a surplus of rice production of more than 342 gr per capita above the daily needs, fulfilling the criteria of food self-sufficiency. Food self-sufficiency classification is associated with the carrying capacity analysis found ca. 4.179 (α>1), revealing that rice production can fulfil the needs of the population of Batang Regency.  JEL Classification 013; Q00; R11

In this study, we present a transparent and reproducible approach to model agricultural production with respect to environmental characteristics and available labour. Our research focuses on the city of Pergamon and its surroundings, with an emphasis on the transition between the Hellenistic and Roman Imperial Period, where widespread demographic changes took place. We investigated the degree of local self-sufficiency using different concepts of a city’s complementary region. Using simple topographic derivatives, we derive a measure of environmental suitability that we translate into a carrying capacity index. Our results show that workforce was not a limiting factor for local self-sufficiency. However, environmental carrying capacity may have been limiting in a scenario with a large population. An active investment into the environment, e.g., by the construction of terraces, could have helped to increase the degree of self-sufficiency. Future research should investigate the level of resilience of such a coupled socio-ecological system in relation to environmental and socio-cultural dynamics.

National Agriculture Policy (DPN 3) 1998-2010, and the National Agro Food Policy (NAP) 2011-2020 is the transformation of the government to improve the country's food quality. However, there are shortcomings in the realization of achieving food self-sufficiency level of at least 80%. This study aims to examine the needs of basic food supplies of rice from the perspective of Islam. The research methodology used in this study is content analysis, the data were analyzed through descriptive approach with a combination of qualitative approach of analyzing the text, including the analysis of documents such as official reports, circulars, annual reports, statements of position, financial plan, reports agencies, and transcripts. The study found that the concept of jurisprudence awlawiyyah in improving the quality of food and income country emphasizes on clean and halal food products. Implication of the study suggests that the development of agricultural land on which the agency involved is Ministry of Agriculture & Agro-based Industry must be given attention. The DPN and the DAN are  expected to play a role in promoting the growth of the agricultural sector and farmers in line with the development of holistic development. Key Words: National Agricultural Policy (DPN), the supply of basic food supplies of from the perspective of Islam.   Dasar Pertanian Negara (DPN 3) 1998-2010, dan Dasar Agro Makanan Negara (DAN) 2011-2020 merupakan satu transformasi kerajaan bagi meningkatkan kualiti makanan negara. Namun terdapat kepincangan dalam merealisasikannya untuk mencapai tahap sara mampu diri makanan negara sekurang-kurangnya 80%. Kajian ini bertujuan meneliti keperluan bekalan makanan asasi padi dan beras mengikut perspektif Islam. Metodologi kajian ini menggunakan reka bentuk kajian analisis kandungan, data-data yang  dikumpulkan dianalisis melalui pendekatan deskriptif dengan gabungan pendekatan kualitatif iaitu menganalisis teks termasuk menganalisis dokumen-dokumen seperti laporan- laporan rasmi, surat pekeliling, laporan tahunan, laporan jabatan, rancangan kewangan, laporan agensi, dan transkrip. Hasil kajian mendapati bahawa konsep fiqh awlawiyyah dalam meningkatkan kualiti makanan dan pendapatan negara, menekankan produk pemakanan yang halal dan bersih. Implikasi kajian mencadangkan pembangunan tanah pertanian Islam ke atas agensi yang terlibat khusus seperti Kementarian Pertanian & Industri Asas Tani harus diberi perhatian. Dasar Pertanian Negara DPN dan DAN diharapkan agar memainkan peranannya dalam menggalakkan pertumbuhan sektor pertanian dan pembangunan petani selaras dengan pembangunan Islam secara syumul. The land is an important factor for people whose lives depend on the agricultural sector. The need for land for various uses has resulted in decreasing agricultural land which could have implications for decreasing food production. Alternative options which are expected to increase the potential for food production are the utilization of marginal land. Farmers with marginal land need to manage their production to meet household needs. So it is important to examine the marketable surplus, the level of commercialization, and the carrying capacity of marginal land. The research area was taken by purposive sampling method in Gunungkidul Yogyakarta. The samples taken were upland rice farmer households with the simple random sampling method. The marketable surplus analysis uses a marketable surplus formula, then the percentage is used to determine the level of farm commercialization. The carrying capacity analysis is carried out using the carrying capacity formula. The results showed that farmer households manage rice production by allocating an average of 59.1% for marketed and 40.9% for household consumption. The allocation of marketable surplus is greater than for household consumption, this shows that gogo rice farming households are towards commercially. The marginal land carrying capacity of 0.641 indicates that the land cannot be developed in an expansive and exploratory manner. The implication is in increasing upland rice production on marginal land, namely by an intensification of farming.

As an agrarian economy Nepal, irrigation is most important to achieve economic development. This research analyzes the impact of Bagmati irrigation project (BIP) in the command area. A comparative study of the output, employment, income and other variables related to the irrigated and un-irrigated agricultural land within and outside the Bagmati irrigation project area has led to positive result. This study found that agricultural productivity increases from 19.32 percent to 102.78 percent in different crops.
