Abstrak Tumbuhan obat merupakan tumbuhan yang menghasilkan satu atau lebih komponen aktif yang dipercaya oleh penduduk berkhasiat obat sehingga dimanfaatkan dalam pengobatan tradisional. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi dan mengkaji spesies tumbuhan yang digunakan sebagai obat tradisional oleh Etnis Sangihe di Kepulauan Sangihe bagian Selatan, Sulawesi Utara. Pengambilan data dilakukan melalui wawancara terstruktur  yang diajukan kepada pengobat tradisional. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya 38 spesies dari 25 famili tumbuhan yang dimanfaatkan sebagai tumbuhan obat oleh Etnis Sangihe bagian Selatan. Herba merupakan habitus tumbuhan yang banyak dimanfaatkan untuk bahan pengobatan. Bagian tumbuhan yang paling banyak digunakan sebagai obat yaitu daun. Cara pengolahan yang paling banyak digunakan adalah direbus. Jenis penyakit yang dapat diobati dengan tumbuhan obat sebanyak 22 jenis penyakit. Kata kunci: tumbuhan obat, obat tradisional, habitus, Kepulauan Sangihe Bagian Selatan Abstract             Medicinal plants are plants that produce one or more active components that are believed by local people as medicinal plants for traditional medicine practices. This study aimed to identify and to assess the plant species that used as traditional medicine by the Sangihe Ethnic in the Southern Sangihe Islands, North Sulawesi. Data collection was conducted by structured interviews to the indigenous medical practitioners. The results showed that 38 plant species from 25 plant families were used as medicinal plants by the Southern Sangihe Ethnic people. Herbs were plant habitus that were widely used for medicinal ingredients. The leaves were widely used as medicinal plant materials. Boiling was the most processing method for preparing medicinal herbs. There were 22 types of diseases that could be treated using medicinal plants. The work gives an account of the use of twenty plant species in Saudi traditional medicine and their main chemical constituents. The botanical name, local name or names (in Arabic language), family, mode of administration and voucher herbarium numbers are recorded. Such a study is not only to document the current status of traditional uses of medicinal plants in Saudi Arabia, but also to give awareness of possible new drug resources.

The paper documents on the uses of traditional medicinal plants used for treating human ailments in three villages of Ledong, a county inhabited by Li ethnic group in the southwest of Hainan Province, China. Semi-structured interviews, key informant interviews and participatory observations were used to collect ethnobotanical data from February to March 2012 and in July 2013. The data collected was analyzed using descriptive statistics. Thirty native knowledgeable people were interviewed. The Li community uses 50 plant species in 36 families for medicinal purposes. The most common medicinal plant families were Leguminosae (14%), Compositae (6%), and Euphorbiaceae (6%), and the most common preparations methods were decoction (84%), crushing (38%), and poultice (34%). The traditional medicinal plants were mainly used for hemostasis (12.9%), body pains (11.4%), gastrointestinal disorders (11.4%), and trauma (10%). Twenty-four species of medicinal plants (48%) have never been reported in the literature of Li medicines. In addition, 22 species (44%) have already been studied by researchers and their extracts or compounds were good bio-actives. However, the rapid socio-economic development in the county is the main threat to the conservation of Li medicine and has resulted in the decrease in the abundance and use of medicinal plants and associated traditional knowledge. Other factors accounting for a decrease in the use of Li medicinal plants like loss of plant diversity, change of land use, and threatened traditional knowledge were equally discussed.

Penelitian ini bertujuan mengidentifikasi spesies tumbuhan yang berkhasiat obat yang dimanfaatkan oleh etnis Sahu dan Loloda di Kabupaten Halmahera Barat, Provinsi Maluku Utara. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui wawancara pemanfaatan tumbuhan obat dengan Pengobat Tradisional (Batra) dan meminta Batra untuk menujukan secara langsung tumbuhan obat yang digunakan. Mencatat seluruh informasi yang didapat dan tumbuhan yang obat yang digunakan diidentifikasi. Hasil didapatkan bahwa spesies tumbuhan yang dimanfaatkan oleh suku Sahu dan Loloda di Kabupaten Halmahera Barat sebanyak 59 spesies, yang terdiri dari 42 famili. Malvaceae, Euphorbiaceae dan Zingiberaceae merupakan famili yang paling banyak jumlah spesiesnya digunakan sebagai tumbuhan obat. Bagian tumbuhan yang banyak digunakan sebagai obat adalah daun. Semak merupakan habitus tumbuhan yang paling banyak dimanfaatkan sebagai bahan pengobatan. Spesies tumbuhan obat yang digunakan umumnya tanaman yang dibudidayakan secara sederhana oleh masyarakat dan beberapa diantaranya diambil dari hutan kemudian ditanam di rumah dan juga tumbuhan obat yang tumbuh di pekarangan yang dikembangkan dengan teknik budidaya sederhana.Medicinal plants are plants that produce one or more active components that are believed to be nutritious and useful for the treatment. This study aims to identify the species of medicinal plants that are used by Sahu and Loloda ethnic groups in West Halmahera Regency, North Maluku Province. Data collection was done through interviews of the use of medicinal plants with Traditional Medicine (Batra) and asked Batra to directly address the herbs used. Record all information obtained and the medicinal plants used are identified. The result showed that plant species utilized by Sahu and Loloda in Halmahera Barat Regency were 59 species, consisting of 42 families. Malvaceae, Euphorbiaceae and Zingiberaceae are the families with the greatest number of species used as medicinal plants. Part of the plant is widely used as a medicine is a leaf. Bush is the most widely used plant habitus for treatment. Species of medicinal plants used are generally cultivated plants simply by the community and some of them are taken from the forest then grown in the home and also the medicinal plants grown in the yard developed by simple cultivation techniques.

Abstract Background The Naxi people, living in Southwest China, have a long history and rich characteristic culture. Their ancestors recorded their life practices by ancient hieroglyphs and gradually formed the Dongba Sutras, which, among other knowledge, included the traditional knowledge of Naxi medicine. In the past, most studies on the Dongba Sutras focused on the humanistic culture of Naxi people, whereas studies have rarely focused on Naxi herbal medicinal plants and fungi described in the Dongba Sutras. Studying this aspect is helpful for exploring the traditional culture of Naxi people from the perspective of traditional medicine. Methods From February to September 2019, we screened the medicinal plants and fungi from the Dongba Sutras with the help of Dongba. Then, we carried out field investigations and collected voucher specimens of traditional medicinal plants and fungi with the help of 104 Naxi folk healers. The specimens were identified and stored in the Herbarium of Yunnan Branch, Institute of Medicinal Plants, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences (IMDY). Through semi-structured interviews, we obtained ethnobotanical information of medicinal plants and fungi. The obtained quantitative data were analyzed using the informant consensus factor (ICF) method and the number of citations. Results A total of 85 species of medicinal plants and fungi belonging to 51 families and 71 genera were recorded in the Dongba Sutras. Among them, 25 species were endemic to China, and eight species were only distributed in Naxi distribution areas. These medicinal plants and fungi were mainly obtained from the wild, and 22 species could be used as food. The most frequent method of taking medicinal materials was oral-taking after decoction, followed by topical and sometimes buccal. The methods of processing these medicinal materials included water decoction, warm water flushing, and drinking after soaking. The medicinal plants and fungi in the Dongba Sutras are used to treat 96 conditions classified into 13 disease groups according to the International Classification of Primary Care second edition. Further analysis indicated that most of these species were utilized for treating diseases from the digestive (D) group, followed by those from the respiratory (R) group, musculoskeletal (L) group, general, and unspecified (A) group. Moreover, the Naxi people have a high consensus on the treatments of diseases from these four pathological groups. Conclusions The Naxi traditional medicine is characterized by simple materials, easy operation, and distinctive national characteristics. The ancient Naxi people recorded their highly developed medical culture in the Dongba Sutras. Natural plant resources found around them were their primary choices for both medicine and diet therapy. The ecological ethics of Naxi people have positive significance for the conservation of wild resources in their area.

Background: Ethiopia is a country with many ethnic groups, cultures and beliefs which in turn have contributed to the high diversity of traditional health care knowledge and practices of traditional medicine from local growth plants, animals and minerals for various physical and mental disorders of human and livestock population that passed from generation to generation for centuries. Medicinal plants contributors to pharmaceutical, agricultural and food industries in the world. The use of medicinal plants in the industrialized societies has been traced to extraction and development of several drugs used in order to heel some diseases having inhibiting effect against pathogenic microorganism. Objective: The main objective of this study was Extraction and Phytochemicals determination of traditional medicinal plants for anti microbial susceptibility test. Methodology: The extraction and identification of some phytochemicals crude compound which used for antimicrobial susceptibility test from plant sample such as Ocimum lamiifolium (OL), Croton maerosth (Cm) and Ruta chalepesis (RC) were conducted. Plant samples are collected, powdered using mortal and pistil and extracted using ethanol and some susceptibility tests were performed to identify some phytochemicals compound. Result: The main result of Antimicrobial activity test showed that the crude extract of OL has the highest zone of inhibition. The highest yield of crude extract (38.21%) was obtained from Croton maerosth (CM) which followed by Ruta chalepesis (RC) (32.43%). However, the lowest yield (28.37%) was obtained from Oscpmum lamifolium (OL). Conclusion: Traditional Medicine is used by many people to managing numerous conditions; it’s accessible and effective on antimicrobial activity. Therefore, it plays a significant role by reducing life-threatening ailments of people and other animals.

Background & Objective: Depression, a risk factor for several serious diseases, is a highly prevalent and life-threatening psychiatric disorder. It can affect the individual’s position in life and reduce the living standards. The research on the use of medicinal plants in treating this disease has increased enormously because of the possible low rehabilitation rate and side effects of available synthetic drugs, such as sexual dysfunction, nausea, fatigue, insomnia, hypersomnia, and weight gain.Conclusion:Therefore, this review aimed to draw attention to the antidepressant effects of culinary herbs and traditional medicinal plants and their active components, thereby promoting their use in the development of more potent antidepressants with improved side effect profile.

Ethnobotanical investigation on traditional medicinal plants used by Santal tribal people of Nawabganj upazila of Dinajpur district, Bangladesh was documented. Frequent field trips were made during January to December 2018 to record ethnobotanical data by interviewing Santals of various age group, mostly ranging between 20-76 years, including the traditional healers. A total of 105 plant species under 97 genera belonging to 57 families were recorded which are used by the Santals for the treatment of 67 ailments. Out of these plant species 44% belonged to herbs, 28% trees, 18% shrubs, 10% climbers. In herbal formulations, leaves were found to be mostly used (29%) followed by roots (12%), fruits (12%), whole plant (10%), seeds (9%), barks (9%), stems (5%), flowers (4%), latex (2%), rhizomes (2%), petioles (2%), gums (2%), bulbs (1%), tubers (1%), pods (1%) and buds (1%). The Santal medicinal wealth have been presented with scientific name, family, Bangla name, Santal name, part(s) used, ailments to be treated and formulations. This study also provides data on diversity, distribution and habitats for conservation and prioritization of the medicinal plants.

Almost everyone in Indonesia has used medicinal plants to treat diseases and it is recognized and felt the benefits of these medicinal plants in curing the disease they suffer. Throughout the archipelago, various indigenous tribes living around the forest have utilized various plant species to maintain health and treat various diseases. However, the process of inheriting local knowledge and the entry of modern culture into traditional society is mostly done orally and the entry of modern culture into traditional society is feared to cause local knowledge to be lost. The diversity of plant species in the vicinity has its own peculiarities between one community group and another. Southeast Sulawesi where there are various ethnicities, including areas that use many types of plants for traditional medicine.

Local knowledge of traditional medicinal plant use and education system on their young Ammatoa Kajang tribe in South Sulawesi, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 21: 3989-4002. Kajang tribal community in Indonesia has been using plants as traditional medicine for long periods of time; however, this traditional knowledge has not been appropriately documented. Therefore, to prevent the knowledge from being degraded or vanished, it needs to be documented. This study aimed to (i) document the local knowledge of Ammatoa Kajang tribe on the use of traditional medicinal plants, (ii) describe the education system of their young generation, and (iii) conduct Informant Consensus Factor (ICF) and Use Value (UV) analyses. The research data were obtained from 114 informants through semi-structured interviews. This research uses descriptive analysis, quantitative ICF, and UV. A total of 104 plant species from 50 families were identified. Parts of plants that were frequently used by the tribal community were leaves (48.56%). Before using the medicinal plants, the people customarily boiled (33.09%) the plants. The youth received education through informal education that became the highest level of education delivered orally by the family (51.75%). The highest ICF was found in the Digestive System Diseases category, and the highest UV was observed in Piper betle.

Mutomo hill plant sanctuary is a ten-hectare piece of land in Kenya listed as a botanical garden under the Botanical Gardens Conservation International, originally established in 1964 with the aim of conserving indigenous flora from destructive anthropogenic activities. This paper presents ethnobotanical documentation of medicinal plants of Mutomo hill plant sanctuary and its environs. An ethnobotanical survey was carried out in Mutomo hill plant sanctuary and its environs with 48 herbalists aged between 32 and 96 years from July 2018 to February 2019 using a semistructured open-ended questionnaire. The plants were collected through random surveys with each herbalist in different ecotypes around the villages and within the Mutomo hill plant sanctuary. The Relative Frequency of Citation (RFC) for each species reported was calculated to determine the plant species frequently collected. In total, 68 different plant species distributed in 28 families and 54 genera were reported. The frequently used plant families were Leguminosae (13 species), Lamiaceae (6 species), and Euphorbiaceae (6 species). Shrubs (37%) and trees (34%) were the dominant growth habits reported. The most cited plant species were Cassia abbreviata Oliv. (RFC = 0.63), Acacia nilotica (L.). Delile (RFC = 0.54), Strychnos heningsii Gilg (RFC = 0.46), and Aloe secundiflora Engl. (RFC = 0.31). Root (19 species) and bark (19 species) were the frequently collected plant parts. Infectious diseases (33) and digestive system disorders (24) were reported to be managed with the majority of the plant species. This study contributes to safeguarding the traditional knowledge on medicinal plants in the study area, which is useful in appreciating and acknowledging the cultural heritage of the Kamba people from the local perspective of Mutomo area in Kenya. It also adds to the knowledge base and documentation of medicinal plants, which is useful information as potential data for drug development.
