Considering the current scenario of warfare between India and China, we got inspired by the thought of various ways technology can help our hardworking soldiers by reducing the human loss by using an application that can spy on the enemy, and also for security purpose. This project’s main purpose is to deal with difficult situations like where humans cannot go through scenarios like darkness, entering narrow areas and detecting hidden bombs etc. The robot serves as a perfect machine for the defense sector in order to reduce the human life loss and will also help in prevention of illegal activities. The robot is self-powered, with a backtracking facility, in case a situation arises where there is connection loss from the base station. Wireless cameras sends back real-time video and audio inputs that can be seen on a monitor in the base station and action can be taken accordingly.

The world’s oceans are one of the most valuable sources of biodiversity and resources on the planet, although there are areas where the marine ecosystem is threatened by human activities. Marine protected areas (MPAs) are distinctive spaces protected by law due to their unique characteristics, such as being the habitat of endangered marine species. Even with this protection, there are still illegal activities such as poaching or anchoring that threaten the survival of different marine species. In this context, we propose an autonomous surface vehicle (ASV) model system for the surveillance of marine areas by detecting and recognizing vessels through artificial intelligence (AI)-based image recognition services, in search of those carrying out illegal activities. Cloud and edge AI computing technologies were used for computer vision. These technologies have proven to be accurate and reliable in detecting shapes and objects for which they have been trained. Azure edge and cloud vision services offer the best option in terms of accuracy for this task. Due to the lack of 4G and 5G coverage in offshore marine environments, it is necessary to use radio links with a coastal base station to ensure communications, which may result in a high response time due to the high latency involved. The analysis of on-board images may not be sufficiently accurate; therefore, we proposed a smart algorithm for autonomy optimization by selecting the proper AI technology according to the current scenario (SAAO) capable of selecting the best AI source for the current scenario in real time, according to the required recognition accuracy or low latency. The SAAO optimizes the execution, efficiency, risk reduction, and results of each stage of the surveillance mission, taking appropriate decisions by selecting either cloud or edge vision models without human intervention.

WHO states five ethical principles for the care of patients with COVID-19: Equal moral respect, duty of care, non-abandonment, protection of the community, and confidentiality. Healthcare professionals might have to make difficult decisions such as selecting patients and withholding or withdrawing mechanical ventilation of critically ill patients. In such difficult situations, a well-prepared action plan which considers ethical principles and prioritizes both public health and the safety of healthcare professionals, can help them. In this case, the development of an effective pandemic action plan, together with a triage plan based on emergency and disaster medicine is necessary. The only parameter of selection in this plan must be the correct application of triage, which respects every human life and depends on the criteria of clinical suitability. In this context, the fundamental ethical principles and human rights must be considered when allocating resources and prioritizing patients. Additionally, all protective measures for healthcare professionals must be taken, including all necessary equipment being adequately provided. If healthcare professionals become infected or face a life-threatening risk, then their obligations will be limited. Therefore, it is necessary to realize these limitations which may arise while providing appropriate health services.

The paper highlights some of the significant works done in the field of medical and biomedical sensing using silicon-based technology. The use of silicon sensors is one of the pivotal and prolonged techniques employed in a range of healthcare, industrial and environmental applications by virtue of its distinct advantages over other counterparts in Microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) technology. Among them, the sensors for biomedical applications are one of the most significant ones, which not only assist in improving the quality of human life but also help in the field of microfabrication by imparting knowledge about how to develop enhanced multifunctional sensing prototypes. The paper emphasises the use of silicon, in different forms, to fabricate electrodes and substrates for the sensors that are to be used for biomedical sensing. The electrical conductivity and the mechanical flexibility of silicon vary to a large extent depending on its use in developing prototypes. The article also explains some of the bottlenecks that need to be dealt with in the current scenario, along with some possible remedies. Finally, a brief market survey is given to estimate a probable increase in the usage of silicon in developing a variety of biomedical prototypes in the upcoming years.

In this paper, the development of affordable self-powered wireless sensor balls is proposed for environmental monitoring. Depending on the area of interest, multiple balls can be either thrown or rolled from a distance into the surrounding area of interest or placed beside the object of interest, and send sensory information back to a central base station, i.e., a laptop, for sensor fusion and processing. In order to achieve fast and robust deployment, reliable data delivery, and smart power management, the paper focuses on the potential wireless network and energy harvesting scheme of the balls. In particular, to support a large number of sensor balls, we show that shortest path routing is essential in minimizing network latency and guarantee timely delivery of critical and emergency information. Furthermore, a vibration-based electromagnetic energy harvesting technique is investigated to capture the energy from the motion of the balls. Experimental results demonstrate the potential development of a network of autonomous self-powered wireless sensor balls.

AbstractThe role of astronomy in the cultural exchanges between India and China through several centuries is taken as an example of astronomy shaping human life. Then the tradition of astronomy in the development of scientific thought is examined. The contribution of astronomy in shaping the post-Renaissance society is briefly introduced. It is concluded that the recent developments of ideas in cosmology throw light on the intrinsic nature and limitations of the scientist as a human being.

In a landmark decision, the Supreme Court of India has provided a legal recognition to ‘passive euthanasia’ in March 2018. In May 2018, David Goodall, an Australian scientist ended his life through Physician Assisted Death in a Swiss clinic at the age of 104 for old age rather than terminal illness. These two events sparked a fresh debate regarding euthanasia and the proponents and opponents of euthanasia argued voraciously for and against it albeit the central theme remained same- ‘the dignity of human life’. This monograph elaborates on the philosophy and popular terminology of euthanasia. It also deliberates on the socio-cultural differences in the conceptualisation of euthanasia and an unbiased critique of the pros and cons of euthanasia with the intention to redress the balance. The monograph finally discusses the current scenario and future directions related to euthanasia.

The Moral principles of Jaina Philosophy indicate that this philosophy represents the practical application of an ideal life. The systematic moral discipline laid down by Jaina Philosophy lights up one person from the common level and makes him enabled of knowing and practicing truth through a highly moral and spiritual course of conduct. Jainism is said to be based on the three basic principles known as ‘Ratnatraye’ or the three Gems ( right belief, right knowledge and right conduct). Jainism is a system that has taken up the path of non-violence for ages and is still applying this ideal to mankind’s practical life in the contemporary age. It lays emphasis on the practice of the principles of non-violence in every individual from which it is evident that its ultimate goal is the well – being of mankind and social improvement. In this paper, an attempt is made to analyse how the ethical principles of Jaina Philosophy is relevant to present time situation in maintaining peace and harmony in the society. There is no denying the fact India is a Lord of spiritualism. The Upnishada, the Gita, the Bhudhist Tripitakas and the Jaina Agams – all these regard spiritual realization as the highest object of human life. In these works, ethical utterances are intertwined with spiritual expressions. Ethical knowledge is the base of humanity. It is the root of human value. Today, when the mind set of people has been polluted of illegal activities, the question– what is morality is surprisingly found to be forgotten by the society. The human race has remarkably become crooked, engulfed in unlawful deeds like injustice, enmity, malice etc. Here comes the relevance of the discussion on ethical knowledge most befittingly during this time in the world. The endless treasure of vast knowledge that had once been designed by the ancient Indian monks, enlightened with the incessant worship of wisdom, is considered an invaluable asset in the field of world ethical knowledge through the ages. Through this paper a modest effort is being made to have an insight towards the ethical lessons prescribed in Jaina Philosophy.

Sinking accidents are a seafarer’s nightmare. Using 10 years’ of worldwide sinking accident data, this study aims to develop a mortality count model to evaluate the human life loss resulting from sinking accidents using zero-inflated negative binomial regression approaches. The model results show that the increase of the expected human life loss is the largest when a ship suffers a precedent accident of capsizing, followed by fire/explosion or collisions. Lower human life loss is associated with contact and machinery/hull damage accidents. Consistent with our expectation, cruise ships involved in sinking accidents usually suffer more human life loss than non-cruise ships and there is be a bigger mortality count for sinking accidents that occur far away from the coastal area/harbor/port. Fatalities can be less when the ship is moored or docked. The results of this study are beneficial for policy-makers in proposing efficient strategies to reduce sinking accident mortalities.

Of the thousands of inscriptions, both stones and metals, there is only small number known as dated. Other parts are damaged, worn, or missing for various reasons. Generally, inscription contains elements of the date, month, and year in the Saka dates. With a particular method, Saka dates can be converted to AD dates. Even through the knowledge of astronomy, the element of hours can be interpreted. These four elements, namely the date, month, year, and hour are absolutely necessary in the analysis of astrology. Originally astrology is used to predict human life. However, with the development of science, it can also predict the non-human aspects, such as the important events in the history of the world. Through incisive analysis, knowledge of astronomy and astrology is very useful for epigraphy, although the time was far behind. There are several types of astrology it is commonly known, the West Astrology or Greek Astrology and East Astrology of India and China. Actually, almost all major civilizations in the world knew astrology. But among the many traditions, currently only popular Western Astrology, Chinese Astrology, Indian Astrology. Since a few years ago the West began to introduce Archaeology Metaphysics, one of them through the analysis of astrology.

Nature has traditionally been a vital complement of human life in Indian tradition. The sacred river Ganges holds deep spiritual and mythological symbolism and has earned the reverence and worship of Indians for centuries.  Now there is a mentality developing in India in which new hierarchies of values are being created and traditional teachings and core ethics are compromised.  The current scenario in India speaks of a disconnection from ancient intrinsic values of the interconnected roles of humans and nature. By using the Ganges as a case study this study will explore the shift and renewal of the spiritual essence of the interconnection. In an attempt to understand the shift of values, this study will examine the human-nature relationship given in Vedic philosophy and core values and ethics existing in this interconnectedness.  The study will investigate how and why the relationship between human beings and nature has changed, what ethics and values have been undermined, and how the ethics necessary for coexistence can be rediscovered and renewed today.
