scholarly journals Technological Developments for Lake and River Water Contamination Monitoring Systems Across the Globe

This paper is an outcome of investigation to understand how the technology has been involved in monitoring the quality of water in realtime situation around the world. From the review of many papers it’s evident that water quality monitoring system is very much essentional as the scarcity of potable/good quality water has increased across the world due to various reasons, and its found that new technological methods are used to measure various parameters like Dissolved Oxygen, pH of water, turbidity, temperature etc . Many technologies are used to measure the level of contamination at lakes and other water resources. These technologies are invented in silo for specific measurement. We need an integrated approach to get the measurement of contamination by encompassing in all the angles. With the emergence of technologies like IoT, Cloud, Robotic Process Automation (RPA)., we will be able to develop technology platform that will enable to extrack data which comprehends wide variety of contaminants. This paper specifically focuses on the survey of new emerging technologies that can be integrated for measuring contamination with high precision and accuracy in lakes and rivers.

Monitoring the quality of water and its proper management is crucial for any industrial and economic application. The global shortage of water demands a sustainable solution to optimize its usage. The Internet of Things provides a robust and cost-effective solution for real-time monitoring of various parameters of water. The paper aims to implementan intelligent water quality monitoring system with the aid of IoT. The proposed system was successfully implemented to determine the turbidity, TDS, flow rate and the level of water for a given sample. The data obtained from the sensors are uploaded to the ThingSpeak dashboard for online monitoring purpose. Besides, an SMS alert is sent to the user whenever the turbidity and TDS values have crossed the threshold limit defined for good quality water.

Water is an essential need and elixir of life. People all the world are fighting for their drinking water in order to keep it clean. No matter in what form it is rivers, lakes etc people have taken extreme measures to keep their water drinkable and useable for both humans and animals. Water is a significant characteristic asset without which no life can be envisioned. In any case, individuals misuse this real asset and cause wastage of water. We provide energy saving solution for monitoring the water quality. The proposed idea will build an IOT based sensor which monitors the pH, temperature, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, bacteria, etc. present in the water collected. The sensors collect data and send it through a network. Then server will upload the data to the cloud. The remote water station will read the collected data and determine the quality of water. Henceforth, this application can be used on bigger scales, saves time and man-power.

Nitrate groundwater contamination is of major interest all over the world. This problem arises in agricultural regions across Morocco. An excess amount of nitrate causes a serious problem in urban water networks and human health. Because of these health risks, considerable attention has been paid to find effective treatment processes to reduce nitrate concentrations to safe levels. The World Health Organization has set an acceptable level for nitrate in drinking water at 50 mg/L. The aim of this study is to reduce the nitrate concentration from groundwater using two membrane processes: Electrodialysis (ED) and Nanofiltration (NF). Efficiencies of these two technologies are compared in respect to nitrate ions removal, cost process and final quality of water. The results of technologies show that, for electrodialysis standards level can be achieved for a demineralization rate of 15% and the physico-chemical quality of the produced water is satisfactory. For nanofiltration we obtain a nitrate removal of 90% but the produced water is very de-mineralized and must be remineralized.

The volume of garbage in Kota Tangerang increases from 1,212,264 m3 in 2008 to 4,590,724 m3in 2012.Well water is the main source of water for people around the FGD RawaKucing. They use well water for bath, wash,  and toilet (BWT) and other needs. Garbage decomposition which makes pollution around FGD Rawa Kucing can accur in air, water, and soil. Waste accurs in water and soil caused by leachate. Leachate can easily  spread through rainwater runoff and it absorbs to the ground and polluting it including well water around it. Contaminated well water can decrease the quality of water physically, chemically, and microbiologically.Groundwater samples taken from residents' well water around FGD Rawa Kucing  and they were represented by three groups which have distance 100 m - 3 km from FGD. Each group consisted of three samples which were taken from well water having depths between 8-18 m. The examination of the quality of well water should be made in accordance with the Regulation of the Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia No.416/MENKE /PER/IX/1990 on the Conditions and Control of the Quality of Clean Water and Quality Regulation of the Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia No. 492/MENKES/PER/IV/ on Requirements and Quality Control of Drinking Water. The quality of well water around FGD Rawa Kucing showed that there were the decreased quality water after testing with several parameter tests. The purpose of this article is to study the processes of water quality management, which are considered as the main factor of the strategic social and economic development of the region and also to form tools supporting this process. The article analyzes the state and development trends of the water sector of the Rostov region from the standpoint of solving the problems of its strategic social and economic development. The authors demonstrate the possibility of intellectualization of regional strategizing processes through the use of water quality monitoring of the knowledge of experts with the use of fuzzy logic. The review of existing approaches to the assessment of water resources quality is given. It is shown that these approaches do not take into account the different requirements of water users to the content of chemicals and compounds in the water but assess the state of water resources in terms of conformity of concentration indices of polluting substances to maximally allowable concentrations. The authors suggest assessing the quality of water resources in compliance with the criteria of the contamination of water resources set for every category of water users. The approach proposed by the authors implies the assessment of water quality in two modes – differentiated and complex. Meanwhile, the suggested tools are universal and can be used in the systems of regional strategizing of the use of various water basins. A conceptual representation of the structure of the management system of water resources quality in the region within the system of regional strategizing is formed and the main problems of its development are identified.

The results of water quality monitoring of the Saratov reservoir for the period 2000-2016 are presented. Observations were carried out monthly at a stationary station located in the lower tail of the Zhigulevskaya HPP. It is established that the quality of water in the source of water supply is characterized by signifi cant seasonal variability. During the mass development of algae the organic contamination of the reservoir increases and the concentration of nutrients decreases. Excessive content of organic substances in the summer low water complicates the technological processes of water purifi cation. It is concluded that phosphate is the limiting factor restraining the mass development of algae, the concentration of which in the peak of “fl owering” of water is reduced to almost zero.

Water became one of the staples in the community who are taking a very important role in life. Dependence of human life should not need to denied of water presence. Many activities of human dependent of water such as drinking, washing, bathing etc. In the city, PDAM as a service business into regional water supply solution to deliver water in the houses. Currently, the use of an analog water meter is ineffective for the custumer to be able to monitor the use of water consumption and bill to be paid. Not only that, sometimes the quality of water delivered by the service is not good, it can be seen during the rainy season, which causes the water to become turbid. Today’s technology much shift something analog to digital which is better appearence and easier operation. Thus in this study designed a digital monitoring system using based on microcontroller ATMega 328 by measuring the water discharge from the tube’s connection. For measuring the water usage using the water flow sensor that uses the principle of the hall effect. At the same tool can detect water turbidity problems using photodiode sensor which have working principle by intensity of light received from sample reservoir. The output of this system contains information on water discharge, volume of water in cubic meter also is added to the unit of price. Result of testing the accuracy sensor water flow reached 98,8 % while sensor photodiode had scale measurement water turbidity reacehed 0 - 173 NTU.
