Being fit physically and mentally is every human being’s ultimate desire. This need has been realized by the pioneers behind the development of fitness applications. To serve the diverse needs of users, these apps offer personalization and also offer diet and nutrition besides exercise and workouts. The apps have been a great relief to people who do not have time to visit fitness centers. Also it provides cost free exercise guidelines and diet packages. Many people who have realized the importance of these apps in their daily life have started making use of such apps. This study aims to understand the user’s stance on fitness apps available in mobile devices. Basically, the study focuses on the effectiveness of fitness apps in terms of various factors like time, cost and accessibility. Also it digs into the reasons why these apps are preferred over fitness centers. Requisite information regarding various related aspects was collected through primary data from one hundred respondents. The study also alludes on the means to increase and improve the user participation towards using the apps.

The number of mobile applications has been increasing rapidly in every field of life with the increasing use of smart devices. Smartphones and tablets make our lives easier with their properties and application they include. Minor or major accidents in traffic are always present in the daily life resulting in financial damage and loss of lives. There have been a number of studies done to speed up the processes to be done from the moment an accident happens. This study aims to enable people to perform all of the post-accident processes quickly and accurately with the use of mobile devices. In this way, papers and documents like photographs will be sent to the competent authorities without wasting time and effort. In addition, access to the road assistance needed will be quite easy. Keywords: Traffic accident, loss assessment and proceedings, mobile application.

Data tables have been widely used for storage of a collection of related records in a structured format in many mobile applications. The lossless compression of data tables not only brings benefits for storage, but also reduces network transmission latencies and energy costs in batteries. In this paper, we propose a novel lossless compression approach by combining co-clustering and information coding theory. It reorders table columns and rows simultaneously for shaping homogeneous blocks and further optimizes alignment within a block to expose redundancy, such that standard lossless encoders can significantly improve compression ratios. We tested the approach on a synthetic dataset and ten UCI real-life datasets by using a standard compressor 7Z. The extensive experimental results suggest that compared with the direct table compression without co-clustering and within-block alignment, our approach can boost compression rates at least 21% and up to 68%. The results also show that the compression time cost of the co-clustering approach is linearly proportional to a data table size. In addition, since the inverse transform of co-clustering is just exchange of rows and columns according to recorded indexes, the decompression procedure runs very fast and the decompression time cost is similar to the counterpart without using co-clustering. Thereby, our approach is suitable for lossless compression of data tables in mobile devices with constrained resources.

In this paper the authors investigate the motivations for life-long collections and how these motivations can inform the design of future lifelog systems. Lifelogging is the practice of automatically capturing data from daily life experiences with mobile devices, such as smartphones and wearable cameras. Lifelog archives can benefit both older and younger people; therefore lifelog systems should be designed for people of all ages. The authors believe that people would be more likely to adopt lifelog practices that support their current motivations for collecting items. To identify these motivations, ten older and ten younger participants were interviewed. It was found that motivations for and against life-long collections evolve as people age and enter different stages, and that family is at the core of life-long collections. These findings will be used to guide the design of an intergenerational lifelog browser.

At the current classrooms, teachers continue using traditional techniques for monitoring the class. However, there are more participation of mobile devices, and concretely, the tablets. In addition, the network access by both students and teachers in daily life is something usual and a routine work. For this reason, the authors propose the introduction at the classes of a system whose target is to facilitate teacher's labour in the common tasks that are done over the class session. Thus, through a mobile application and a centralized platform of students' data, the authors obtain an interactive and modern system that facilitates teacher's labour.

This article offers insights into the ownership and use of mobile devices (smartphones and tablets) among Indonesian middle and high school students. The study is based on primary data collected from a survey of 1,157 students at two middle schools and two high schools from two different regions in Indonesia. Data analysis includes multiple correspondence analysis and logistic regression models. The findings show that both ownership and use of mobile devices varies significantly among students of different sex, age, location, and most importantly socioeconomic status. This article also reports the use of mobile apps in three separate categories (i.e., educational apps, social media, and mobile games), showing some differences in duration and frequency of mobile apps use between different group of students. These findings can serve as a foundation for further research on how mobile technology can be used to improve educational attainment in Indonesia and other developing countries.

This study identifies the factors which influence user participation in community-based rural water supply schemes in north Kerala, using primary data. To capture the rate of participation, two forms of indices were constructed: one to measure attendance in group meetings, and the other to measure their influence on decisions. The relative importance of factors such as locality, group and household characteristics that affect participation were analysed using linear regression models. Of the three sets of factors, it was found that household characteristics were the most influential. The analysis shows that males actively participated in group meetings. Level of education and involvement of households in other local organizations were the other major factors affecting participation.

Secondary data were collected from library sources. The result informs that the life of people in Lingsar Village is harmonious, with mutual respect, from the perceptions of Hindu and Islam Wetu Telu symbols. These symbols, both physical and nonphysical, are part of a symbol system that builds synergistic relationships, a religious social order between Hindu and Islam Wetu Telu in Lombok.
