Input-Output analysis showed that the fisheries subsector had not been included in the strategic sector because it had weak inter-sectoral linkages and low multiplier effects of the total economy in Indramayu Regency compared to other economic sectors. Schallogram analysis showed that six sub-districts in the region of hierarchy III were feasible to develop. According to the stakeholders, the priority of fisheries subsector development in Indramayu Regency was the development of aquaculture activities (42.04 %) in terms of improving the quality of human resources (33.66 %). In the development strategy of the fisheries subsector of aquaculture activities in Indramayu regency, priorities should be in the development of existing resources (Natural Resources, Human Resources, Artificial Resource / Infrastructure, Institutional, Technology and Capital) to achieve sustainable development.

AbstractThe redevelopment of former docklands, with docks frequently backfilled by end tipping through water, requires careful planning and a proper understanding of the geotechnical properties of the materials involved. An overall scheme for development of part of the former Surrey Commercial Docks Southwark, disused since 1960s, was formulated by London Docklands Development Corporation to provide a new environment encompassing housing, schooling, a shopping centre, social and recreation facilities and light industrial units. This paper presents a review of the development strategy and planning aspects of the development of Surrey Quays with particular reference to the assessment of the former wharf areas and the quality of the dockfill. Planning considerations, along with the role of geotechnics within the infrastructure development plan, are presented. The results of geotechnical investigations which included an extensive phase of field and laboratory testing, led to a ground improvement programme consisting of surcharge loading and vibro-replacement.

We focus in this article on the dimension of social sustainability of the development process— particularly on the determining factors of social tension which results in social disruption in violent forms of the different types of crime—murder, property-related, riots in the presence of polarization and Left-wing insurgency across major states in India. This article makes an attempt to explore the role of economic deprivation—thus, resulting in economic inequality and poverty in addition to infrastructural and other socio-economic developmental factors in determining such crimes in this context. While economic growth has a definite positive role in abating such violent forms of crime and their associated tension, the development strategy should give high priority to literacy, internal security and human development for building up peace and a socially sustainable society in India.
