The article highlights the possibilities of using the technologies of remote sensing of the Earth (RSE) and geographic information systems (GIS) for monitoring studies of pollution factors of the environment within the municipal solid waste (MSW) dumps and landfill areas as well when the assessing their impact on the landscape components. The main purpose of the investigation is to formulate the general principles of creation and to determine the main components of the information system of geomonitoring of areas of impact of the MSW disposal landfills as part of an information-analytical system of analysis of the risk of emergencies of man-made and natural character, aimed at ensuring sustainable regional development of Ukraine. During the research of the Kyiv’s Oblast territory, space imagery from IRS satellites was used. For detailed exploration of the individual sites where the largest landfill sites and areas are located (northern Obukhiv district, Bila Tserkva district, Trypillya district), were also used images from the Quick Bird satellite. The improvement of the characteristics of the Kyiv’s landfill No 5 at the north of the Obukhiv district used the unmanned aerial vehicle data. Some of the factors that have a negative environmental impact on the environment and the population of MSW disposal landfills and the possibilities of monitoring them by RSE methods are considered in the article. As a result it has been shown that the RSE data integrated to GIS allow to obtain accurate information about the current state of the studied area quickly, to conduct timely monitoring and forecasting the development of negative phenomena and processes, which significantly increases the level of environmental safety at national, regional and site levels and provides an opportunity to develop a set of measures to reduce the environmental impact of MSW disposal landfills. The situation with waste, especially domestic waste in Kyiv’s Oblast, is getting worse every year. As a result, there is an increasing threat to human and environmental health. The obtained results show that one of the reasons for the current situation is the selection of unfavorable sites for the allocation of waste disposal landfills.

The main components of the legal nature of environmental impact assessment are considered as management functions in the field of environmental protection, rational use of natural resources and ensuring environmental safety due to the fact that the reasons for the current unsatisfactory state in the industry of natural resource use, environmental protection are ambiguous. It was determined that the legal regulation of environmental impact assessment should be considered an important step towards the harmonization of Ukrainian legislation with EU legislation in the field of environmental impact assessment. The procedural and rocedural aspects of environmental impact assessment are determined and reviewed, which are determined by a number of legislative and subordinate legal acts. It has been established that environmental impact assessment should be carried out in compliance with certain principles based on the provisions of current legislation on nature protection. The principle of the effectiveness of environmental impact assessment is analyzed through the prism of prohibiting or terminating the activity of an enterprise in case of violation of the legislation on environmental impact assessment. Attention is drawn to the legal requirements of the principle of reliability of information in relation to environmental impact assessment. The compulsory provision of the principle of publicity in the process of impact on the environment, aimed at timely, adequate and effective informing of citizens, has been established. It is proved that the publicity and reliability of environmental information on environmental impact assessment act as two interrelated legal categories. It has been determined that the legal nature of the environmental impact assessment is based on the provisions of the current legislation of Ukraine and is aimed at observing law and order in the field of environmental protection.

Deicing reagents have an impact on the environment. The composition of the deicing reagents used in Moscow has undergone certain changes. However, the main components of deicing reagents were chlorides, including calcium chloride and (or) sodium chloride. We also conducted research on the effects of sodium chloride and calcium chloride on some urban decorative plants. Soil salinization is a negative environmental impact in urban ecosystems. Deicing reagents affect both plants and the environment in general.

Accurate information about the wind resource and the wind energy potential is required for federal and local authority policy initiatives that will expand the use of wind energy. This paper presents the experience of creating an information-analytical system (IAS), based on GIS technologies, for wind energy potential (theoretical and practically achievable) of Leningrad and Pskov regions, located in the North-West of Russia. IAS consists of GIS database coupled with models for support of decision making for regional planning. The paper presents the general methodological approaches and possible practical difficulties during the creation of such systems.

We have offered the investigations aimed at the design of eco-efficient technologies during oil and gas producing sites life cycle. The authors have conducted the analysis of conditions causing environmentally hazardous situations at oil and gas producing sites. We have established the necessity of quick maintenance of operation during emergencies that makes it possible to reduce material costs and environmental pollution. The increase of environmental safety in the process of winding up oil and gas wells emergencies that took place as a result of catching drilling string or some other pipe is crucial. We have analyzed different ways and various structural designs of the devices for pipe unscrewing from caught strings. We have established the ways of negative environmental impact reduction in the winding up emergencies at operating as well at stack oil and gas rigs. The recommendations regarding the structural design of the device are given. The device design is patented and the prototype model of the device is designed and manufactured. The device functions as the transformer of clockwise drilling string rotation into anticlockwise rotation of fishing tools. We have highlighted the positive effects after the implementation of the given device. We have noted the importance of innovative technologies design as well as the importance of forming adequate response skills during emergencies when wellsites are being constructed. The technical solutions and recommendations we have introduced make it possible to prevent negative environmental impact and reduce resource flows at different stages of wellsite life cycle.

Summary An archaeological excavation was carried out at Graham Street, Leith, Edinburgh by Glasgow University Archaeological Research Division (GUARD) as part of the Historic Scotland Human Remains Call-off Contract following the discovery of human remains during machine excavation of a foundation trench for a new housing development. Excavation demonstrated that the burial was that of a young adult male who had been interred in a supine position with his head orientated towards the north. Radiocarbon dates obtained from a right tibia suggest the individual died between the 15th and 17th centuries AD. Little contextual information exists in documentary or cartographic sources to supplement this scant physical evidence. Accordingly, it is difficult to further refine the context of burial, although a possible link with a historically attested siege or a plague cannot be discounted.

The relevance of the study of individual psychological characteristics of employees of criminal investigation departments in transport in the North-Western Federal district of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia (hereinafter referred to as the NWFD) in relation to indicators of professional deformation is due to the specific features of their official activities. Despite a significant amount of research on the phenomenon of professional deformity of police officers, there are few thoroughly developed and completed works on the prevention of professional deformities of police officers. The purpose of our research was to study the individual psychological characteristics of employees of criminal investigation departments in connection with the risk of professional deformation. The results of the empirical study were processed by correlation and factor analysis (49 parameters). The results of the initial analysis showed that the overall assessment of job satisfaction among employees of the studied departments is average with a downward trend. The results of the study on «professional burnout» revealed that a number of employees surveyed are close to emotional exhaustion. It is established that empathic abilities, social intelligence, and constructive coping strategies play an important role in the structure of individual psychological characteristics of police officers. Low ability of employees to learn behavior determines non-constructive strategies and models for coping with stressful situations, which leads to deformation of relationships with other people, i.e. to professional deformation. The obtained data can be used as the basis for the program of psychoprophylaxis of professional deformation of criminal investigation units in transport in the northwestern Federal district.

Essential oils of aromatic plants represent an alternative to classical pest control with synthetic chemicals. They are especially promising for the alternative control of stored product pest insects. Here, we tested behavioral and electrophysiological responses of the stored product pest Tribolium confusum, to the essential oil of a Brazilian indigenous plant, Varronia globosa, collected in the Caatinga ecosystem. We analyzed the essential oil by GC-MS, tested the effects of the entire oil and its major components on the behavior of individual beetles in a four-way olfactometer, and investigated responses to these stimuli in electroantennogram recordings (EAG). We could identify 25 constituents in the essential oil of V. globosa, with anethole, caryophyllene and spathulenole as main components. The oil and its main component anethole had repellent effects already at low doses, whereas caryophyllene had only a repellent effect at a high dose. In addition, the essential oil abolished the attractive effect of the T. confusum aggregation pheromone. EAG recordings revealed dose-dependent responses to the individual components and increasing responses to the blend and even more to the entire oil. Our study reveals the potential of anethole and the essential oil of V. globosa in the management of stored product pests.
