Abstract: The aim of this study was two fold, first to determine the body composition, physical and conditional characteristics of male handball players, who were playing in juvenile level in Murcia. A Second objective was to establish differences among the teams evaluated and offensive playing lines. The teams analyzed were playing in Murcia, Alhama, Jumilla and Águilas. 45 juvenile male handball players participated in this study. Anthropometric data were collected following ISAK protocols. A descriptive statistical analysis was made in order to obtains means and standard deviation of the simple. An ANOVA analysis was performed in order to establish differences among teams and its playing lines. The somatotype, throwing velocity and grip were analyzed in all teams The best teams show higher values in anthropometric variables than the worts, but these differences does not reach statistical significance. Mesomorphy is a very important characteristic in handball player. Higher throwing velocities were reach in throwings with previous displacements.

Statistics today represent a group of scientific methods for the quantitative and qualitative investigation of variations in mass appearances. In fact, statistics present a group of methods that are used for the accumulation, analysis, presentation and interpretation of data necessary for reaching certain conclusions. Statistical analysis is divided into descriptive statistical analysis and inferential statistics. The values which represent the results of an experiment, and which are the subject of observation of a certain occurrence, are called parameters and they are divided into descriptive and numerical. All numerical parameters are divided into non-continuous and continuous. The graphic presentation of the distribution of frequencies can be by poligon or histogram. The most frequently applied descriptive statistical methods are: arithmetic mean, standard deviation, standard error of arithmetic mean, variation coefficient, and variation interval.

Objectives: Attached gingiva is important for maintaining periodontium in a healthy state. The present study tries to find the normal values of width of attached gingiva in a periodontally healthy Indian population. Material and Methods: The width of attached gingiva was measured with a periodontal probe in periodontally healthy patients attending the periodontics department. Descriptive statistical analysis was done to get the mean, which will represent the normal values of width of attached gingiva for the population. Results: Female patients had a greater width than males and the 20 to 30 year old group had the greatest width of attached gingiva. The mean values of attached gingiva varied in different areas of the mouth with greatest width in maxillary central incisors and least in mandibular molars. Conclusion: Width of attached gingiva varies with age, gender and in different areas of the mouth. ABSTRACT: The aim of this study was to describe the causes of death in Thoroughbred horses at the Racetrack “La Rinconada”, in Caracas (Venezuela) during 2008-2012. This study was conducted in a cohort of all Thoroughbred horses that died or were subjected to euthanasia. Data was collected retrospectively. Only horses for which a full necropsy report was available were included in the study. The carcass and all internal organs of each horse were examined and representative samples of tissues with abnormalities were collected in 10% neutral buffered formalin and processed for histopathological examination. Samples were collected for bacteriological or virological examination when indicated in gross examination. A descriptive statistical analysis was performed. A total of 532 Thoroughbred horses were examined post-mortem. Of these horses, 44% were females and 56% males. In general musculoskeletal injuries and dilaceration occurred specifically at higher frequency. The total year and horses dead for descriptive statistical analysis was to mean 106.4 and median 125; Standard Deviation: 47.82573; variation (Standard Deviation): 2287.3, population (Standard Deviation): 42.77663 and variance (Standard Deviation): 18229.84. In conclusion we identify and describe the causes of death in Thoroughbred Race Horses in Caracas, Venezuela. In order of importance the causes of death were principally skeletal muscle injuries resulting in fractures euthanasia, abdominal crisis were mostly bowel twists and gastric rupture andrespiratory pathologies such as the pneumonia, pleuritis presented a significant number of cases of pulmonary hemorrhage induced by exercise. Background—Morbid obesity (MO) is a chronic metabolic disease affecting physical, psychological and social wellbeing. Bariatric surgery is a reliable method for losing weight in the long term, improving the quality of life, body image and social life of people with MO. Current literature recognises the importance of social support in controlling weight and coping with MO. The objective of this study was to describe and understand experiences related to social support for patients with MO included in a bariatric surgery programme. Methods—A qualitative descriptive study, where data collection included thirty-one interviews with people diagnosed with MO involved in a bariatric surgery programme. Results—Three main themes emerged from the analysis: (1) accepting the problem in order to ask for help, (2) the need for close support and (3) professional support: opposing feelings. Conclusions—A partner, family and friends are the key pillars of social support for those with MO included in a bariatric surgery programme. Healthcare professionals gave formal support; the bariatric surgery team provided information, trust and assurance. Nurses provided healthcare 24 h a day, making them the main formal support for people in the bariatric surgery programme.

With the advent of technology, smartphones have occupied a prominent place in their users’ personal and professional lives. Thus, it is relevant to understand how the relationship between smartphones and individuals occurs, which may be paradoxical and not distinguish the positive and negative uses of the device. This situation may interfere in the lives of these people. This research is a descriptive study, which used univariate descriptive statistical analysis by means of data and Student’s t-test; it was performed with individuals who face double shift (working and studying). We identified the presence of eight paradoxes, which can be classified into two categories: the first refers to the intimate relationship between individuals and smartphones, whereas the second concerns the functionalities of this type of device. This article also retrieves studies that have addressed the theme “paradoxes”, making a comparison with this study. It was possible to notice differences and similarities over the years.
