Aquecimento Global. SOCIAL REPRESENTATIONS OF GLOBAL WARMING: CONTRIBUTIONS TO CHEMISTRY CLASSES IN BASIC EDUCATION Abstract: This article proposes to describe a qualitative investigation characterized as a multiple case study involving two classes of high school integrated to professional education. The research sought to investigate the social representations of global warming presented by the subjects and how they could collaborate with the planning and qualification of the teaching of Chemistry in the aforementioned context considering its controversial character. Data were collected through a questionnaire and interpreted through content analysis. The results showed that the classes seem to anchor their considerations about global warming in the idea of a phenomenon that causes destruction and is caused by the pollution produced by human action. Regarding the scientifically debatable nature of the phenomenon, it is predominantly absent the articulation of a critical component capable of anchoring itself in discussions contrary to the conceptions presented. It is concluded that this research in the field of Education in Chemistry converges with the roll of results of other research that intertwine the classroom and social representations, that is, expose the content of collective theories about reality, showing the deviations which it can present in relation to the real images of scientific knowledge. The work is also aligned with the perspective of thinking the school environment as a locus of continuity / discontinuity between the elaborated culture and the daily culture, emphasizing the relevance of investigations with this nature. Keywords: Chemistry teaching. Abstract At a time of successively implemented educational reforms on the level of early-school education, presently concerning the youngest generation of Poles, there is an exquisitely topical question about the school maturity of the contemporary child. Hence, an attempt to turn attention to proper preparing the child for taking the compulsory education is a priority objective of the present article. The attention should be also turned to the essential role in this implementation process for the system and methodological education which is a basic education environment - a family. Authors, having exploited the expository method as fundamental form of the realization of the established purpose, made an attempt to depict not only a substantial role of the early-school education (by stressing the appropriate intellectual, emotional and social development of the child), but also to define school maturity indicators and determinants. It was also underlined, that the appropriate assessment of the child’s school maturity constituted the essential determinant of his proper functioning in the school environment. Additionally, an attempt was made to depict the model of the mature child ready for the early-school education through indicating factors which determine acceptable readiness. A return to the current issues of imposing compulsory education on 6-year-old children was also made.

Based on primary source material from bourgeois and elite boarding schools, this chapter considers the debate on appropriate education for middle-class boys. Irish middle-class schools largely emulated the classical curriculum offered in British and Continental elite schools; however, there was a move towards offering a more practical course of studies for scholars bound for a mercantile future during the 1840s. An examination of the bourgeois school environment, the institutional construction of masculine success and failure, and the content of a manly education suggest a way of understanding adult projections of boyhood and children’s experience of a boarding school education.
