Popular culture is so dynamic that it has the ability to provide space for the youths to show their expression and appreciation on new things, including in producing identity, i.e. identity of their nationalism. Garuda Pancasila as the state’s symbol protected by the law and government regulations is challenged by the ideas coming from the youths who need to express their identity of nationalism. Garuda Pancasila is redefined according to their needs on their identity of nationalism through the themes of the popular culture of the youths. New meaning of Garuda Pancasila is probably only known among the youths and their world but it has actually the possibility to be well accepted and appreciated by wider community. This research uses descriptive qualitative method with t-shirt that is produced by a community named “Hiduplah Indonesia Raya”, a youth community that is moved by their love for Indonesia. This community is courageously enough to produce their Indonesian identity by means of giving a new meaning to Garuda Pancasila in t-shirts with graphic designs. This research is to break down ideas that have moved the youths to produce their Indonesian identity through redefinition of Garuda Pancasila and their efforts in spreading the idea of contemporary Indonesian identity to maintain the sense and spirit of nationalism among the youths themselves along with those surrounding them. This research reveals that Indonesian youths with their love for their country and their need of an updated identity using popular media such as t-shirt are able to turn t-shirt into a medium of expression that positively accepted and even supported by the surroundings.
