In recent years, the number of (auto) destructive, aggressive manifestations among schoolchildren, children, and adolescents has increased. This phenomenon is observed with various training systems. The purpose of this pilot study is to identify the regular relationships between aggressiveness and self-esteem anxiety in adolescents in educational institutions of various types. At the same time, we are interested in manifestations of adaptive and maladaptive perfectionism. The following preliminary conclusions can be made. Adolescents at risk of hostility in rural and so-called “deviant” schools have problems of self-esteem and are isolated in a social group (class) (the results are statistically significant). In the gymnasium, adolescents at risk of hostility noted difficulties in interpersonal relationships (the results are statistically significant). However, disadaptive perfectionism becomes an important factor in the gymnasium.

Although it has been determined that childhood and adolescence are the most important periods for the development of perfectionism, there are few empirical data on perfectionism in general, as well as on its relation to anxiety, available for this population. Due to that, the goal of our research was to question the relation between perfectionism and anxiety among younger adolescents. The research has been conducted among students of two elementary schools in Mostar (N=200). The following instruments were applied: Questionnaire on socio-demographic features, Adaptive/maladaptive perfectionism scale (Rice & Preusser, 2002); Children and adolescents perfectionism scale (Flett, Hewitt, Boucher, Davidson & Munro, 2000) and Fears and anxiety scale for children and adolescents - SCAD-62 (Vulić-Prtorić, 2004). Based on the relation between perfectionism and anxiety measures and its contribution to explanation of anxiety, the following dimensions turned out to be maladaptive: sensitivity to mistakes, need for admiration, organisation and order and socially prescribed perfectionism. Contingent self-esteem and self-oriented perfectionism stand out as adaptive.

Is a review of indicators to measure obesity in children and adolescents, such as the index of body mass (BMI), waist circumference (CC) and index weight - waist circumference (P/CC), and compare the results. Sample: of 304 children between 6 and 18years of age, 128 of Caracas, 139 of Mérida and 37 of Valencia, of fourth educational institutions, Objective: to compare three indicators that measure overweight and obesity. Method: it is a descriptive, transversal study correlational; applied descriptive measures of association and correlation, the variables age, weight, height, waist circumference (WC), hip (C DAC) circumference, measured and calculated indicators: body mass mass index (BMI), waist to hip rate (ICC) and index Peso-circumference waist (P/CC). Results: According to CDC for BMI, 9.87% at risk of overweight, and 5.26% overweight; average of 65 CC, 92±7, 78cm, and percentile increases with age; average P/DC 0, 67±0, 11, higher in males and evidence sexual dimorphism from the age of 15. (R>0.70) correlations were obtained between weight-ccin.; weight c cad. BMI-weight; P/CC-age, height, weight and c cad. Conclusions: BMI remains a good indicator to assess overweight and obesity, DC complements the evaluation, but there is still no matching criteria for reference values; index P/CC, can be useful, since it discriminates by gender and correlated with age, weight, height, BMI, C hip.

The current world wide phenomena of youth suicide which became a major issue for countries in the early nineties, is still growing exponentially. The Sports Challenge program was initiated in 1992 in Western Australia to identify ‘at risk' children and adolescents who display: a low sense of basic trust, a sense of shame and doubt, a sense of inferiority and a sense of identity confusion with common characteristics of low self esteem. The subsequent program is based on a strong statistical paradigm encompassing current and historical information with reliable and objective evaluation measures. To this end, since 1992, Sports Challenge has been recognised as a ‘World Best Practice' in redressing the issue of ‘at risk' children and adolescents. The program now operates in over 150 schools and communities throughout Australia and 24 schools and Detention Centres in Singapore. This paper will allow a window into the development of the program and the successful transfer of the project into Singapore. The Singapore study which began in 1996 has revealed the success of the Sports Challenge program cross culturally with improvement in self esteem and self concept of ‘at risk' groups in the range of 18% to 44%.

This study examines the relationships between the bonding style of an incarcerated adolescent with parents and his/her current feelings of self-esteem, hopelessness, and suicidal thoughts and attempts. It also investigates differences between bonding to mother and bonding to father. Some 296 incarcerated adolescents were interviewed using the Parental Bonding Instrument. Significant relationships were found between youths' self-esteem, hopelessness, and suicidal behavior and their bonding style. Youths whose parent(s) had a parental bonding style of affectionless control reported the greatest distress, and youths whose parent(s) had an optimal bonding style reported the least distress. Differences were found between bonding styles with the mother and with the father. Attachment theory may be useful in targeting incarcerated youths who have affectionless control bonding with parent(s) for special interventions since these youths are most at risk for psychosocial problems.
