This article provides information on the effect of sowing 2.0, 3.0, 4.0 million germinated seeds of lentils "Darmon" in autumn and spring on the biometric parameters of the plant. In Darmon variety of lentils, the height of the stem was 51.1-58.8 cm in autumn, 43.7-52.2 cm in spring, the leaf area was 23.2-35.8 thousand m3 in autumn and 22.2-33.7 thousand m3 in spring. As a result of symbiotic activity, the weight of nodules in the autumn was 3.17-4.52 c / ha, in the spring - 2.82-3.98 c / ha, and per thousand grains - 78.9 -81.9 grams in the autumn and 78.5-81.1 grams in the spring. It was found that as the number of seedlings increased, the weight of thousands of grains on the options decreased due to lack and high demand of nutrients. The same pattern was observed in the location of the first pod in both periods, but in the spring due to external factors the location of the lower pod was slightly higher, the yield in the autumn was 24.3-27.4 c / ha, and in the spring - 17.1-20.3 c / ha, and the best result was found to be obtained when seeds were sown on 3 million pieces/ha.

Nitrogen (N), being mobile in soil is exposed to various losses owing to unwise use of nitrogen fertilizer, and conventional soil and crop management practices which can be minimized by temporal nitrogen application and different tillage practices. This study was conducted to elucidate the effect of different tillage systems and nitrogen timings on growth, stay green and grain quality in maize. Three tillage systems viz. T1: tillage with cultivator, T2: mouldboard plough + 2-cultivations, T3: chisel plough + 2-cultivations; and five nitrogen timings viz. N1: whole at sowing, N2: ½ at sowing+½ at V5 (5-leaf stage), N3: ½ at sowing+½ at tasseling, N4: ½ at V5+½ at tasseling, N5: 1/3 at sowing+1/3 at V5+1/3 at tasseling). Tillage systems and nitrogen application had significant effect on leaf area per plant, specific leaf area and leaf area ratio. Tillage systems had non-significant effect on stay green and grain quality parameters except for oil contents. However, nitrogen timings had significant effect on chlorophyll a, b and total contents as well as grain quality parameters. The higher a, b and total chlorophyll contents were noted with three splits i.e. 1/3 at sowing+1/3 at V5+1/3 at tasseling compared with other treatments. The results suggest to grow maize by preparing the field through chisel plough and applying N in three splits to improve its growth, chlorophyll contents and grain quality.

The aim of this work is to assess the usefulness of biowaste deriving from Circular Bioeconomy (CBE) processes (i.e., vermicompost, compost and digestate), as growing substrates for the partial or total replacement of peat, by measuring the vegetation biometric parameters of sage (Salvia officinalis L.)—leaf area; Soil Plant Analysis Development (SPAD) value (index of chlorophyll concentration); fresh and dry weight of leaves; stem weight; root length. The results showed that vermicompost positively influenced most of above parameters (+16.7% for leaf area, +7.3% for fresh leaf weight, +6.4% for dry leaf weight, +8.5% for fresh stem weight, +0.9% for dry stem weight, +16% for root length) and, therefore, can be used as a sustainable growing substrate, alternative to peat, for the sage soilless cultivation. Yet, the results of some biometric parameters are better with peat rather than with compost (−7.2% for SPAD value, −47.3% for fresh leaf weight, −46.8% for dry leaf weight, −32.9% for fresh stem weight, −39.1% for dry stem weight, −52.4% for fresh root weight, −56.6% for dry root weight) and digestate (−30.2% for fresh leaf weight, −33.6% for dry leaf weight, −23.9% for fresh stem weight, −27% for dry stem weight, −51.8% for fresh root weight, −34.4% for dry root weight, −16% for root length). Therefore, these results are interesting for potted plants in nursery activity, while the above differences must be verified also after the transplanting of the tested plants in open field. However, the use of all the above growing substrates alternative to peat allows the sustainable valorization of food industry by-products, plant biomass, animal manure and the Organic Fraction of Municipal Solid Waste (OFMSW).

Sorrel (Rumex acetosa L.) is an unconventional food plant. It is a perennial herbaceous plant that forms thickets. There are studies related to the accumulation of nutrients in sorrel, but there is no information on its absorption march and vegetative development. The objective of this study is to determine macronutrient absorption and biometric parameters of sorrel during 60 days after seedling transplantation (DAT) of seedlings. The experiment was completely randomized with eight treatments and four replications. It was conducted in a greenhouse. The treatments consisted of plant collection times, performed at 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 50 and 60 DAT. Plants’ biometric parameters (leaf blade length, relative leaf area, and shoot fresh and dry matter) and macronutrient absorption march were evaluated. Biomass, leaf blade length and relative leaf area of sorrel plants increased over time and, more markedly, after 35 DAT. The maximum levels of macronutrients accumulated in sorrel shoots, in descending order, were K > N > Ca > Mg > P > S. There was no significant difference in Ca and S contents among collection times, that is, the absorption and accumulation of these nutrients by sorrel did not vary throughout the evaluation time.

Being a valuable forage crop triticale has stable and high productivity as well as high protein content and resistance to stress-factors. The research took place at the Yaroslavl State Agricultural Academy and Yaroslavl Research Institute of Animal Husbandry and Forage Production in 2012–2018. This article reports on field and lab experiments aimed at improving cultivation technology of winter triticale (“Nemchinovskiy 56” variety) in the Non-Chernozem region of Russia. Triticale productivity was tested as affected by forecrop, nutrition and seeding rate. Triticale performed the best on the clean fallow field (4.6 t grain ha-1); its productivity dropped down to 4.3 t ha-1 on the seeded fallow field being the lowest after perennial grass cultivation — 4.1 t ha-1. Such a decrease in yield occurred due to the loss of readily available nitrogen to crop and root residues, affecting negatively crude protein, fiber, and fat concentrations in grain. Application of N100K100 provided the planned yield of 5.0 t ha-1. Triticale produced 5.9 t ha-1 of grain on the background of N150P40K140 compared to the planned yield of 6.0 t ha-1. Seeding rate of 5.5 million germinated seeds ha-1 resulted in significantly higher yield of 4.4 t ha-1, while 6.5 million germinated seeds ha-1 provided 4.2 t grain ha-1. Higher seeding rate led to lower grain quality due to leaf overshadowing, subsequent discoloration, and death. The article also reports on dry matter, exchange energy, feed unit and digestible protein contents.

Aim. Using the hybridization method on the basis of the ecological and geographical principle of parental pairs selection, to create a new source material in the selection of buckwheat and conduct a comprehensive assessment of it. Methods. Testing, material evaluation, analysis of plants, yield and grain quality were carried out in accordance with the generally accepted methods of the State variety testing. Results. A new source material was created and evaluated in the selection of buckwheat based on the attraction to the hybridization of samples from the collection of the buckwheat genus, in particular, varieties Snezhen, Botansoba, Nokheda, Prymorska 7, collection sample No. 4013, Victoria Podilska, Belorussian early ripening, Arosa. Hybrid samples are compared with the Victoria standard variety. It was revealed that direct and reverse hybrids of the first generation from crossing varieties: Botansoba and Snezhen, Snezhen and Victoria Podilska, Nokheda and Snezhen are characterized by higher yields by 0.38–0.80 c/ha compared to the standard. Conclusions. We plan to continue testing the best breeding numbers in the following nurseries of the breeding process. Better with biometric and yield indicators, we plan to use breeding numbers in the breeding programs of the Scientific Research Institute of Cereal Crops of the PDATU. Keywords: hybridization, growing season, biometric parameters, yield.

The color varieties of sweet paprika are conquering the Colombian vegetables markets, not only because of their fancy colors, but also because they are one of the best sources of ascorbic acid and carotenoids as well as phenolic compounds, important in the human diet. Therefore, basic studies related to the growth and development of the available imported varieties under greenhouse conditions on the Bogota Plateau are required. In a completely randomized block design with five replicates, biometric parameters of the hybrids Plinio, Menta RZ and Orangery were evaluated, showing that the latter one was statistically different for leaf area, leaf area index and number of leaves during the 20 study weeks, while the dry matter in the leaves, stems and roots showed no differences between the varieties. Although, 'Orangery' exhibited the highest percent of final allocation of accumulated dry matter in the fruits, being, in general, the most promising hybrid for cultivation under the research conditions.

Abstract. This study examines the effect of interactivity on the attribution of responsibility for the character’s actions in a violent video game. Through an experiment, we tested the hypothesis that identification with the main character in Grand Theft Auto IV mediates the effect of interactivity on attributions of responsibility for the main character’s antisocial behavior. Using the framework of the fundamental attribution error, we demonstrated that those who actually played the game, as opposed to those who simply watched someone else playing it, identified with the main character. In accordance with the theoretical expectation, those who played the game and came to identify with the main character attributed the responsibility for his actions to external factors such as “living in a violent society.” By contrast, those who did not interact with the game attributed responsibility for the character’s actions to his personality traits. These findings could be viewed as contrasting with psychological research suggesting that respondents should have distanced themselves from the violent protagonist rather than identifying with him, and with Iyengar’s (1991) expectation that more personalized episodic framing would be associated with attributing responsibility to the protagonist.
