Abstract The increasing role of English in this era of globalization seems to force us to recognize that English has a great impact on all aspects of life, so learning the English language is a must. Previously, studying English at Indonesian universities was limited to General English or English General Purposes, which became general subjects. However, over time, learning English has been developed specifically for English for Specific Purposes. This study is intended to show how the use of English learning at universities, especially in vocational education, works. In this study, the literature study was chosen as the research method. The literature study shows that the use of General English and English for Specific Purposes in higher education is very different. Where there is no special learning material for teaching General English. The learning material usually contains general knowledge of English. Unlike English for Specific Purposes, where teaching English for Specific Purposes requires special materials that are tailored to the needs of students depending on the subject. Keywords: Use, General English, English for Specific Purposes, University, Vocational Education. __________________________ Abstrak Meningkatnya peran bahasa Inggris di era globalisasi ini seolah memaksa kita untuk mengakui bahwa bahasa Inggris mempunyai pengaruh besar di segala aspek kehidupan sehingga mempelajari bahasa Inggris merupakan hal yang wajib. Sebelumnya di Indonesia, pembelajaran bahasa Inggris di perguruan tinggi hanya sebatas General English atau English for General Purposes yang menjadi mata kuliah umum, namun seiring berjalannya waktu pembelajaran bahasa Inggris dikembangkan lagi secara khusus dalam mata kuliah English for Specific Purposes. Studi ini memiliki tujuan untuk melihat bagaimana penerapan kedua pembelajaran bahasa Inggris tersebut di perguruan tinggi khususnya pada pendidikan vokasi. Studi pustaka dipilih sebagai metode penelitian dalam studi ini. Dari studi kepustakaan tersebut diperoleh hasil bahwa penerapan General English dan English for Specific Purposes di perguruan tinggi sangatlah berbeda antara keduanya. Dimana tidak ada materi pembelajaran khusus terhadap pengajaran General English. Materi pembelajaran biasanya berisikan pengetahuan umum tentang bahasa Inggris. Beda halnya dengan English for Specific Purposes, dimana dalam pengajaran English for Specific Purpose, dibutuhkan materi khusus yang disesuaikan dengan kebutuhan dari mahasiswa sesuai dengan bidang yang mereka ambil. Abstrak— Mata kuliah Bahasa Inggris pada pendidikan vokasi merupakan mata kuliah umum (MKU) wajib. Berbeda dengan pendidikan di universitas, pendidikan vokasi menuntut konten pengajaran suatu mata kuliah dalam bentuk konten praktis. ESP, English for Sepcific Purpose adalah salah satu cabang ilmu pendidikan Bahasa Inggris yang dapat diterapkan dalam mengembangkan MKU Bahasa Inggris pada pendidikan vokasi. Studi pustaka ini menganalisis beberapa jurnal dan buku yang berkaitan dengan ESP dan mewawancarai dosen Bahasa Inggris pada tingkat universitas untuk menentukan materi Bahasa Inggris yang sesuai untuk pendidikan vokasi. Hasil kerangka need analysis (NA) Basturkmen dan Dudley-Evans, St John, & Saint John, dipaparkan dan diuji dengan kebutuhan pendidikan vokasi jurusan mesin [1, 2]. Hasil kajian pustaka dan Analisa kebutuhan menunjukkan perlu adanya kurikulum, silabus, dan aktivitas berbeda untuk setiap jurusan pada pendidikan vokasi. Silabus Bahasa Inggris umum di perguruan tinggi tidak dapat dipakai sepenuhnya untuk kebutuhan pendidikan vokasi. Kata kunci: Analisa Kebutuhan, English for Specific Purposes, Bahasa Inggris Umum, Pendidikan vokasi Abstract— English courses in vocational education are compulsory general courses (MKU). In contrast to university education, vocational education demands the teaching content of a course in the form of practical content. ESP, English for Specific Purpose is one branch of English education that can be applied in developing the English course in vocational education. This literature study analyzes a number of journals and books related to ESP and English language lecturer studies at the university level to determine appropriate English material for vocational education. The results of the Basturkmen and Dudley-Evans, St John, & Saint John's framework of need analysis are presented and tested with the vocational education needs of across three majors [1, 2]. The results of the literature review and need analysis indicate the need for different curriculum, syllabus, and activities for each department in vocational education. Teaching English as a global language is widely popular now. As such, English for Specific Purposes (ESP) is also needed in every field of study. In ESP teaching, different teaching aids are definitely needed: students´ books, teachers´ books, power point presentations, internet videos, or even specific magazines, journals, or newspapers that present interesting topics that fit to the specific field. This variety of teaching aids definitely easeslearning difficulties,such as anxiety to learn, uninteresting class, boredom, or demotivation to learn.Cahyani (2013),Peterová, N (2017), point out that the use of ICT in classes is a requirement as it makes teaching more attractive and more successful learning. Based on the upper named researchers, this study describes English language learning with media, i.e. the use of YouTube videos about Engineering English in English for Specific Purposes (ESP) classes, as a complementary teaching/learning tool. It reviews research on learning English, specifically Engineering vocabulary and English language fluency. Speaking, that is speaking fluently in ESP, (Engineering English, in our case) is one of language skills that needs more practice, less anxiety, more confidence and more positive approach to English learning. In order to support the students to be able to English language speak fluently, the ESP teacher is compelled to be creative in making the ESP class more interesting. And this could be achieved by creating interesting teaching/learning material that would make the students explore and enhance their English learning abilities. This modern teaching tool is distinguished by the students of engineering as appealing, amusing and spontaneous cognitive capability. Engineering students´ responses are examined and the study comes up with the conclusion that the features available in ICT, i.e. YouTube videos, make the teachers and students able to listen, understand, take notes, and later present topics what they have just watched and listened, or they can present new ideas, even come up with new assignments and issues concerning engineering in simple and interesting ways. The application of ICT in ESP classes make the students able to understand, illustrate and use new engineering vocabulary, interact with other engineering students. Finally, pedagogical implications are offered for ESP teachers, by integrating YouTube videos about Engineering in order to improve and enhance specific learning, i. e Engineering vocabulary and its fluency.

Abstract Teachers play e key role in the process of teaching. In this article it is tried to focus on some of the most important roles that the teacher of English language plays during the difficult process of teaching. The role of the teacher in class is important. In the class teachers are: leaders of the language, thinkers, administrators, surces experts, vigilants, material furnishers, organizers, performers, estimators, listeners and controllers. At the recent literature is posed the question of the ideal teacher, so what makes a good teacher? According to Medgyes P. All the teachers are extraordinary according to their ways and different from eacher other. According to him the concept of the ideal teacher does not fit to a single concept, because many things have to be taken into consideration. Another image of English teacher is the teacher who is expert of the English language. According to Whitaker the English teacher needs to own the subject and to make the students to follow willingly the subject. He not only should own the subject but he should also know how to explain it.

The design of this research is qualitative descriptive research. The purposes of this research are first to analyze the English learning needs of students in Culinary Department and second to identify what are the needs that not available in the textbook used. The subjects of this research are first the students of SMKN 3 Bengkulu 10th grade, second the English   teachers   who   teach   at   the   Culinary   department,   third   alumni   of   Culinary department, and fourth the English language users in the field of Culinary. In this study, researchers used the needs analysis to find what are the needs and wants of students in learning English. The instruments that used in this study are questionnaires, interview questionnaires, and textbooks used in English language learning. The result of the research indicates that the students' English needs is the learning material according to their vocation and the activity that can make the students more active in the learning process. For unavailable needs are including the materials that contain more vocabulary related to culinary, text examples and tasks to suit students' abilities, and learning activities that can make students more active.

English learning has now largely been driven by global socioeconomics. Thus, English for Specific Purposes is likely taught at tertiary level education in Asia. Especially, in Indonesia, where Muslim is the major population, teaching English to students majoring in Islamic Studies must be carefully planned. Experts have discussed widely that English language has its association to Western civilization and Christian value. Therefore, this present research aims at developing Trivia Cards which infuse Islamic elements to teach English for Islamic Studies for students majoring in Islamic discipline at one private Islamic university in Indonesia. Research and Development (R&D) was implemented in the study involving some procedures as follows: need analysis, product design, product validation, and revision. Results on need analysis comprised five important topics, they were Islamic manner (akhlak), oneness of God (tauhid), Islamic history, and hadith. Further, the experts highlighted that the media developed reached its validity criteria as it was scored 98.07% by media-language expert; and scored 88.6% by content expert. Furthermore, the study were 95% positively responded by the respondents with 45% strongly agreed and 50% agreed respectively; meanwhile only small portion stated his/her disagreement for 5% or as many of one respondent. Thus, this study has shed a light that Islamic content can provide a way for English teachers to teach English to students with Muslim background.

This paper evaluates the history and cycling accessibility of Nova, a shopping centre established in Lund, Sweden, in 2002. The current situation was also analysed through observation and a literature review. Moreover, the study conducted a closer analysis of the history and role of the municipality based on further literature study and interviews with officials. The conclusion of the analysis indicates poor and unsafe bikeways caused by conflicts of interest between politicians, officials, landowners and the general public. It also depicts a situation in which the municipality’s master plan has been ignored, and, in contrast to the local goals, cycling accessibility at Nova has seen no significant improvement since the shopping centre was first established. The reasons for this, arguably, are a relatively low budget for bikeway improvements in the municipality, as well as a situation in which decision-makers have stopped approaching the subject, as a result of the long and often boisterous conflicts it has created in the past. Lastly, it must be noted that it is easy to regard the whole process of Nova, from its establishment to the current situation, as being symptomatic of the power structures between drivers and cyclists that still affect decision-makers at all levels.

The subject of this research is the abusive language (invectives) prohibited by the rules of the International Song Contest “Eurovision”. The goal consists in substantiating the role of obscene language as a linguistic manipulation in song discourse of “Eurovision” contest. The tabooed words and expressions represent a wide array of lexical units for research by modern linguistic science based on the materials of various voice compositions. Using the lyrics of songs that participated in “Eurovision” and made top 10 chart, the author determined those that contain invectives. The scientific novelty consists in the first ever analysis of song lyrics that contained the lexical units of abusive language prohibited by the rules of “Eurovision”. It was determined that the compositions of multimodal discourse contain various invectives in verbal component. The authors of songs for “Eurovision” apply different linguistic manipulations to influence the live voting and ensure a spot in the finals for their composition. This is directly related to increase in the number of participating countries; therefore, the structure and content of verbal component of a musical-poetic composition of Eurovision plays an important role. Despite the prohibition by rules of the context to use tabooed lexicon in song lyrics, the author was able to identify certain violations in the English-language and Italian-language compositions. The conclusion is made that invectives in the song discourse are effective linguistic manipulations that enhance suggestive semantics of speech act, since all compositions made it to the top 10.

ABSTRACT English Language Teaching (ELT) in non-English majors already has its “home” but not its “host”. It means that the parties involved in the teaching have not been able to manage an effective ELT yet. There could be many aspects related to this, yet this paper prefers to propose a solution to improve the effectiveness of English teaching in non-English majors by empowering the English language lecturer. This paper refers to the results of research conducted on the teaching of English in the Faculty of Social Sciences that use lecturers and students as the main informant, as well as interviews, observation and document analysis as data collection techniques. The results showed that some important improvement in ELT for non-English majors can be initiated by the lecturers. There are some necessary steps to do to reinforce the role of lecturers in ELT implementation. They are involving the lecturer in designing or revising the curriculum, building connection with fellow ESP lecturers and lecturers of relevant field of study, and activating Focus Group Discussion among teaching team. These steps hopefully will be complemented by the improvement of other aspects in ELT for non-English departments to build an effective teaching.   ABSTRAK Pengajaran bahasa Inggris di jurusan non-bahasa Inggris baru memiliki “rumah” saja, belum “tuan rumah”nya. Ini berarti bahwa pihak-pihak yang terlibat dalam pembelajaran belum dapat menata sebuah pengajaran bahasa Inggris yang efektif. Ada banyak hal yang dapat dilakukan, namun tulisan ini memilih untuk mengajukan sebuah solusi perbaikan pengajaran bahasa Inggris di jurusan non-bahasa Inggris dengan cara memberdayakan dosen pengampu matakuliah. Tulisan ini  merujuk pada hasil penelitian yang dilakukan terhadap pengajaran bahasa Inggris di Fakultas Ilmu Sosial dengan menggunakan dosen dan mahasiswa sebagai informan utama, serta wawancara, observasi dan analisis dokumen sebagai teknik pengumpulan data. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa beberapa perbaikan penting dalam penegajaran bahasa Inggris dapat difasilitasi oleh dosen pengampu matakuliah. Langkah-langkah yang dapat dilakukan adalah: melibatkan dosen dalam menyusun kurikulum pengajaran bahasa Inggris; membangun hubungan dengan sesama dosen pengajar ESP dan dosen ahli bidang ilmu tertentu; mengaktifkan forum diskusi antar anggota tim pengajar. English for Banking subject is offered to the students as an optional subject. This subject is offered to the students in order to anticipate the alumni that will be accepted in the banking related jobs. The aim of this research was to identify the role of English for Banking subject toward students’ readiness in work fields. This research used qulitative method and linear regression analysis with sixteen students as total respondents who are the student of the fourth semester of Language and English Literature Study Program Faculty of Language and Arts UNIMA. The result of this research was the English for Banking has positive influential toward students’ readiness to enter the banking realted job. The subject is suggested to be given in the Language and English Literature Study Program. This shows that the role of English for Banking subject is recommeded as an obligatory subject and not only as an optional subject.Keywords: English for Banking, Role of English
