This paper looks into what Junior High School learners think of the Web 2.0 tool “Storyboard” for digital story telling purposes and investigates the extent to which it can enhance their receptive and productive skills of reading and writing in the English language. Fifty one randomly selected students, who created a digital story based on a relevant instructive scenario, and their teachers took part in the research. The quantitatively analyzed teachers’ and students’ interviews results and learners’ post-tests data revealed that the tool is considered very motivating and useful increasing learners’ aforementioned English language skills. As learners and teachers indicate “Storyboard” has offered them moments of happiness and joy during their school activities and made their lesson creative and interesting.

The aim of this study is to investigate in detail the use of song in teaching English for Junior High School student. This study is action researches conducted at Dharma Karya UT Junior High School class VII with participant number are 25 students. Data obtained from the result of test in each cycle. The findings showed that the learning process using song makes the students become more active in their interaction, it is showed by their participation level during the teaching is increased. Another finding also revealed that there is a significant improvement in the student’s English language skills using song from preliminary to cycle II stage in the research process. The average score of students at the preliminary stage is only 60 then it increased to 68 in the first cycle and increased significantly in cycle II with the amount of 80. It can be concluded that action research is done by using song in teaching English for Junior High School significantly helps the students in increasing their English language skills. This study recommends the continuation of using various teaching media and tools for Junior High School student in order to improve their English language skills.

SMP Negeri 1 Asembagus (State Junior High School 1 Asembagus) is the one of reference schools in implementing Situbondo Regent’s Regulation Number 5 in 2015 with coaching activities of reading and writing al-Qur’an in the form of Pesantren Sekolah (Concept of Islamic Boarding School in the School) so that the students can read al-Qur’an well and memorize Juz Amma at least 25 chapters correctly until these activities can give birth to the generation who have intellectual intelligence and noble character. The results showed that the Implementation of Regent’s Regulation Number 5 in 2015 at SMP Negeri 1 Asembagus (State Junior High School 1 Asembagus) by hold up Pesantren Sekolah (Concept of Islamic Boarding School in the School) activities. Supporting factors include intrinsic motivation of the students, Support from their family, and support from teaching staff of Tahfidul Qur’an Institution of Sukorejo Islamic Boarding School. Inhibiting factor include bad friends.

ABSTRACT This paper attempts to analyze the test items in the English National Final Examination (UAN) for Junior High School Students in the academic year 2009/2010. This study aims at analyzing the compatibility of the test items of package A in reading and writing section of English National Final Examination for Junior High School Students with the standard of graduate competence and the cognitive domains used in the test. The data were collected by using documentary method, while in analyzing the data the writers focused on matching the compatibility of the test items with the Standard of Graduate Competence and identifying the cognitive domain used. From the analysis, it was found that the test items of package A in reading and writing section of English National Final Examination 2009/2010 were in line with the Standard of Graduate Competence (SKL) arranged by the government. The cognitive domains in reading section mostly used level of comprehension. The cognitive domains in writing section used the application and the synthesis level. ?é?á Key words: analysis, test items, national final examination

This research aimed at developing culture-based English language assessment instrument for the second semester of grade seven of junior high school in Buleleng Subdistrict to support the implementation of Curriculum 2013. This research was categorized as research and development. Research and development model which was used in this research proposed by Peffers et.al (2007). The suitable English assessment for the second semester of grade seven of junior high school was English assessment with integrated Balinese culture in order to support the development of character building. The steps of developing this English assessment instrument included assessment goal analysis, assessment standard analysis, syllabus analysis, learning source analysis, designing blue print, developing assessment, expert judgment, and revision. This research produced English assessment instrument which assessed students’ affective, cognitive, and psychomotor domains. The reliability and quality of the developed assessment instrument were found out by giving expert judgment form to the experts of assessment and English language teaching. The scores which were given by the two experts were 650 from the first expert and 802 from the second expert. Based on those scores, the quality of the developed English assessment instrument was categorized as excellent. The reliability of the data was categorized as excellent in which the score of Alpha Cronbach’s coefficient was 0.9. It means that the developed culturebased English assessment instrument was suitable to be used in teaching and learning process that implements Curriculum 2013 in Buleleng Sub-district.

Abstract The study aims to evaluate of english learning at the Junior High School 3, Samaturu Kolaka. The method used is evaluative through the flow of the gap model (discrepancy evaluation model). Data collection through interviews, document tracing, and observation. Key Informant is the principal, teacher, and student. The results showed that: (1). The ten indicators of the principles in the preparation of lesson plan is only a contemporary-oriented indicator that is not contained in the lesson plan. This is because lesson plan is based on teaching materials and teaching materials. In addition, the lesson plan does not promote social, spiritual attitudes and only focus on English language teaching materials. Because of social and spiritual attitudes are hidden curriculum and can be applied to all subjects. Even the development of character is a program of Junior High School 3, Samaturu Kolaka. (2). All step-by-step indicators in lesson plan preparation are already loaded inside the lesson plan. But there is still an unprecedented indicator such as determining a monotonous learning strategy and not self-evaluation for the teacher to improve the strategy, and its teaching method. (3). Several indicators of lesson plan implementation have been carried out well in the classroom even though it is not maximized. This is due to preliminary activities, the teacher does not explain the importance of the material to be studied and competencies that students must master. The conclusion is related to the principles, application of steps and implementation of lesson plan in the classroom, although not maximized, but has been referring to Permendikbud no. 103 year 2014 about learning on primary education and secondary education.   Keywords: Evaluation, Lesson Plan, English Learning

This research is conducted on the basis of the importance of factors to respond to the rules of the language in supporting the effectiveness of the achievement of Indonesian language proficiency on educators. This research is conducted to prove whether there is a correlation between the activities of responding to the language rules with the language skills on the teacher of junior high school level. This research uses correlational quantitative approach. With the number of respondents 70 educators. Data collection activities were conducted using (1) questionnaires in the form of questions about language rules and (2) Indonesian language proficiency test. From the results of correlation coefficients with SPSS program data analysis process about the correlation between the proficiency of responding the rules of language with the language skills of Indonesia by using the formula of multiple correlation coefficient (multiple corelation). Correlation of proficiency respond to Indonesian rule with correlation attitude of language of educator level junior high school in Medan that is equal to 0,221. The value of 0.221 shows a weak correlation between the proficiency of responding to Indonesian rules with the correlation of language attitudes of junior high school educators in Medan City Still weak.

<pre><em>This study aims to improve the learning outcomes of students </em><em>of junior high school</em><em> in the academic year 2017/2018 through the use of learning aids.</em></pre><pre><em>This research is a classroom action research. This research was conducted in two cycles, with each cycle consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The research subjects were students of </em><em>of junior high school amount</em><em> 32 students. Sources of data in this study come from teachers and students. Data collection techniques are by observation and evaluation of learning outcomes. Data analysis used descriptive techniques based on qualitative analysis with percentages.</em></pre><pre><em>The results of the analysis of research data can be presented as follows starting from pre-action to cycle I and from cycle I to cycle II. In pre-action, students have not shown good learning outcomes, excellent categories with a percentage of 0%, good categories with a percentage of 3.125% or 1 student from 32 students, enough categories with a percentage of 53.125% or 17 students from 32 students, less categories with percentages 37.5% or 12 students from 32 students, then the category is very low with a percentage of 6.25% or 2 students from 32 students. In the first cycle the category is very good with a percentage of 0%, a good category with a percentage of 3.125% or 1 student from 32 students, enough categories with a percentage of 68.75% or 22 students from 32 students, a category with a percentage of 28.125% or 9 students from 32 students, and very few categories with a percentage of 0%, from the data there can be a number of 23 students have reached the criteria of completion while 9 students have not yet completed. In cycle II it reached a very good percentage of 0%, a good category of 18.75% or 6 students of 32 students, quite a category of 65.625% or 21 students of 32 students, a category of 15.625% or 5 students of 32 students, and less than 0% . So that from the data it can be seen that 27 students reach the criteria of completion while 5 students have not finished with the number of students 32 students.</em></pre><em>The conclusion of this study is that the use of learning aids can improve the learning outcomes of floor gymnastics of junior high school.</em>

English is an International language that is used as an instrument to communicate. As a foreign language it is quite normal if  English difficult to learn, because the way to write and read or speak English language is dissimilar whereas  in Indonesian language the way to read or speak and write it is the same. Same as student in one of Junior High school in Lembang, some of them do not want to speak English language especially in from of the class. The author guest one of the factor students do not want to speak English is limitation vocabulary. In this article the author try to know is it true that limitation vocabulary is one of factor student do not want to speak English ? To answer that question, the author use qualitative method through questionnaire and interview for second grade student. The result finding that many factor student do not want to speak English one of them is limitation vocabulary, the student said that is no easy to memorize a lot of vocabulary, when they memorize it the feel bored. To make the student do not feel bored the author  suggest to use some games in the class to make the student more attractive. Keywords:  Vocabulary, Factor, Speaking

Penelitian ini bertujuan meningkatkan kemampuan menulis peserta didik Sekolah Menengah Pertama (SMP) Minggir, Sleman, Yogyakarta melalui penggunaan kontekstualisasi pemebelajaran menulis. Untuk mencapai tujuan tersebut, penelitian ini melibatkan 32 orang peserta didik sebagai subjek penelitian dan seorang guru bahasa Inggris sebagai kolaborator peneliti.  Jenis penelitian ini dikategorikan ke dalam bentuk penelitian tindakan kelas dengan menerapkan tiga siklus selama pelaksanaan pengambilan data penelitian. Terdapat tiga jenis teknik pengumpulan data penelitian yang digunakan, yakni teknik observasi kelas, wawancara, dan penyebaran kuesioner yang selanjutnya diikuti dengan kondensasi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan yang dimaksudkan untuk mendeskripsikan data kualitatif yang diperoleh dari pengumpulan data di lapangan. Analisis deskriptif kuantitatif  juga digunakan untuk menyajikan kemampuan menulis peserta didik yang diperoleh melalui tes menulis teks-teks bahasa Inggris. Berdasarkan hasil analisis, disampikan empat temuan utama. Pertama, penggunaan  teknik kontekstualisasi pembelajaran menulis mengubah tingkah laku peserta didik dalam hal motivasi belajar menulis teks-teks bahasa Inggris dan keterlibatan peserta didik dalam pembelajaran menulis yang sebekumnya peserta terlihat pasif menjadi aktif. Kedua, sebagian besar peserta didik merasa mudah dalam mengekspresikan gagasan dengan mengacu pada kontekstualisasi tugas-tugas menulis teks-teks bahasa Inggris yang disampaikan. Ketiga, miskonsepsi dan kesalahan gramatikal dapat diminimasi dalam proses mengkonstruksi teks-teks bahasa Inggris. Keempat, dengan mengacu pada data kuantitatif, skor rerata dari isi, pengorganisasian paragraf, pemilihan kosakata, penggunaan bahasa, dan aspek penulisan mengalami peningkatan yang cukup tajam. Kata kunci: kontekstualisasi, pengetahuan skematik, kemampuan menulis AbstractThis study is aimed at improving students’ writing ability of junior high school at Minggir, Sleman, Yogyakarta Minggir, Sleman, Yogyakarta through contextualization practices. To gain the objective, this study voluntarily involved 32 students of junior high school at Minggir, Sleman, Yogyakarta as the subjects of this study and one English language teacher serving as the collaborator. This study applied a classroom action research design with the utilization of three cycles during the data collection practices. Techniques of observation, interview, and questionnaire distribution were employed to gather data followed by data condensation, data display, and conclusion making which were meant to qualitatively analyze the gathered data. Quantitative descriptive analysis was also employed to analyze students’ writing ability with the employment of writing test. The findings document four issues. First, there was a change of behavior on the part of students in the area of motivation to learn and involvement in writing practices. Second, the majority of students found easier to express their ideas in reference to the contextualization practices applied by English language teachers. Third, mis-conception and grammatical mistakes could be minimized in the process of constructing English texts. Fourth, with regard to quantitative data, the average scores of the content, paragraph organization, vocabulary, language use, and mechanics increased sharply. Key words : contextualization, schematic knowledge, writing ability
