This ethnographic study examines how participation in a Christian church community shapes Chinese international undergraduate students’ social experiences in an American university. Our findings reveal that Chinese international undergraduate students identify the church and its fellowship as (1) a social support community and (2) an informal learning community, one which fills in the gap in counseling services and interpersonal activities that the university fails to offer. Recommendations are made for higher education institutions to provide stronger support for international students, regardless of their nationalities and religions.

The social media have become part and parcel of the modern society, as they are a social communication channel. Using social networks for connecting to potential users have been increasingly important for the libraries. The libraries have been setting up groups and accounts in the social media to connect to their users, to draw attention to their work and to widen its scope. The university libraries, like many other libraries of educational institutions, participate in the process. The author analyzes the experience of Perm State Humanitarian Pedagogical University with VKontakte network subscribers group in 2013-2018. The general statistical data characterize group evolution during the selected period; dynamics of views, and the viral coverage and subscribers group coverage are provided. The author examines the administration mistakes that result in the loss of subscribers; she reviews the experience of attracting users, and rules for content presentation. She concludes that group success is determined by interesting and quality content relevant to the group aims and tasks; that the librarian in charge must be familiar with the principles of social group administering and content generation in accordance with the library’s goals and tasks.

The problems in teaching the methods of statistical data analysis in evidencebased medicine place high demands on their application. The rigor of the approach requires extensive knowledge in both the direct professional sphere and in areas of knowledge that go far beyond the limits of medicine. It is not enough to simply type groups for the study or calculate average values and draw some conclusions based on this. It is important to recruit groups and evaluate the statistical parameters of the obtained results correctly. Moreover, it is requisite to know the purpose of the research, formulate the appropriate hypotheses even before the beginning of the experiment [1] or data collection, and not to invent them during the analysis of an array of heterogeneous numbers and names when writing articles. The material of data processing presented at the level of schemes and algorithms in combination with the use of the appropriate programs is greatly simplified and, most importantly, streamlined. In this case, the subject of statistics is perceived not as something abstract, but as a complex component of the principles of evidencebased medicine, without detaching it from specialized training. The involvement of specialists of the core subjects of the university sharing the examples of studies using the statistical processing and planning methods into the training will make it possible to improve orientation in a variety of the existing statistical methods of data processing, as well as to understand the importance and relevance of the use of statistics in medical research.

We describe the development and evaluation of the university-wide, weeklong undergraduate research conference at the University of New Hampshire. Despite increases nationally in the number of undergraduate research conferences (URC), there has been little research examining the social and educational impact of these events on student presenters. We describe the development and evaluation of the university-wide, weeklong URC at the University of New Hampshire. A survey administered to URC participants over a four year period revealed that research culminating in a presentation at the URC was one of the more influential events students experienced during their undergraduate years and students realized a high level of satisfaction from presenting at the URC.

AND EVASION: the contours of exclusion at the Federal University of GoiásAbstract: Considering the expansion of educational opportunities at the Federal University of Goiás, promoted mainly by the Program to Support Restructuring and Expansion Plans of Federal Universities, instituted in 2007, it is understood as relevant to relate the phenomenon of expansion with access, retention and evasion in the university. Abstract The objective of the research is to study patterns and problem water management for agriculture using participatory action research (PAR). Data collection was conducted by entering the area for a survey and interviewing sample groups of farmers from 10 districts in Chanthaburi, Thailand. The sample group consisted of five farmers from each district, constituting 50 farmers. The interview results and statistical data analysis described in detail. The result can be concluded that the farmers mostly encounter water insufficiency and lack of knowledge about the irrigation system. The agricultural costs will increase in terms of the investment of laying out the irrigation system or excessive water usage that is not compatible with the water requirement of the plant. Therefore, the water management system for agriculture should be managed easily with technology, which gives water economically and precisely then farmers can know when to apply the water.

This article investigates distance students' understanding of the prerequisites for interactive learning in asynchronous, computer mediated university distance studies. It encompasses students' attitudes to structure, dialogue and autonomy, and their experience of social presence and what they consider interaction with peer learners signifies for their learning. The data were collected from an undergraduate and a masters course within the teacher training distance program, using questionnaires, interviews, diaries and analysis of students' contributions in FirstClass and WebBoard respectively. The results indicate that there was no difference between the student groups in preferences concerning structure, dialogue and autonomy. Their preferences depended on their ideas about how to benefit from different situations. They preferred a course design permitting them to use time effectively in relation to their other commitments outside the university. The results also indicate that they felt social presence despite using only asynchronous, text based communication. The student groups, however, had different ideas about the significance of inter-learner interactions. The amount of spontaneous contributions sent toWebBoard and FirstClass also differed. The undergraduate students stressed the social and practical aspects, while the masters students to a greater extent emphasised the cognitive aspects. The amount of spontaneous interactions was also higher in the undergraduate group. These students need more support from others in order to manage their studies compared to the masters students.
