Appellation of origin brands are largely based on the geographical characteristics where the products may possess certain unique features due to suitable climate and abundant natural resources, but are also derived from historical heritage that a particular place is well known for its unique product and production. Therefore, such brands are typically named based on two components: the geographic designation and the product. For centuries, it has become a common practice in China that a producer uses its product place part of its brand name. This chapter provides a comprehensive overview of the Chinese Appellation of Origin Brands (AOBs), particularly exploring their unique characteristics, their development process, and the environmental factors that influence their brand performance.

There are many roles that design can play in organisations. It can be source of good marketing strategy, and designer by himself can be a promotional tool for a company. Thanks to those actions companies can gain publicity, media attention and good PR.On the second level, design can be perceived as ‘process of making things better’. In this case companies can achieve more effective product development process, new tools and technologies. On the third level we have the situation when designer work alongside with company managers with the whole business concept. At this level, designers’ work looks more like a brand consultant, a strategist. In this approach design should be reflecting certain brand name and brand values. As our study presented, Swedish companies operate on those two, higher levels, while Polish still limit the scope of design. We strongly believe, that Polish companies, as they gain more experience with design activities, will be more likely to perceive design in this more mature approach. In the meantime, presenting best practices from companies from other, more mature countries could be a good way of promoting design as a strategic asset rather than promotional tool. We believe that in order to fasten this process, Polish companies should as follows:1. Work more often with external and foreign designers;2. Expand the area of designer responsibilities in companies;3. Place the responsibility for design in hands of professional design managers.

A brand name’s linguistic characteristics convey brand qualities independent of the name’s denotative meaning. For instance, name length, sounds, and stress can signal masculine or feminine associations. This research examines the effects of such gender associations on three important brand outcomes: attitudes, choice, and performance. Across six studies using both observational analyses of real brands and experimental manipulations of invented brands the authors show that linguistically feminine names increase perceived warmth, which improves brand outcomes. Feminine brand names enhance attitudes and choice share–both hypothetically and consequentially–and are associated with better brand performance. The authors establish boundary conditions, showing that the feminine brand name advantage is attenuated when the typical user is male and when products are utilitarian.

The article is devoted to the development of methodological approaches to the use of unique natural resources (characteristics) of territories that are capable of being embodied in the consumer properties of food products produced at enterprises located in these territories. The development and production of such goods creates real prerequisites for the formation of a reputation, both of enterprises themselves and of the territories (regions) where they are located. Based on the reputation formed due to the unique natural characteristics of the area, it is recommended to develop trademarks, create regional product brands with the aim of using them in promoting goods with unique consumer properties to other regional markets, including foreign ones. The conditions and rules of registration of the name of the place of production of goods, the reflection of the toponym in the brand name are described; an overview of regional Altai product brands is presented, including the unique natural properties of the area in their consumer properties. The provision that the most acceptable for the initial presentation of Altai in other regional markets is Altai honey. As the main form of promoting Altai honey to other regional markets, it is proposed to use value-added chains. It substantiates the provision that regional product brands promoted to other regional markets, including foreign ones, contribute to the formation and development of the image of the territory, in this case, the Altai Territory. The material presented in the article can be used in the development of specific methodological proposals for solving the problems of the development of territories and enterprises located on them.

The ability of microorganisms to degrade building materials depends on several factors. Biological corrosion occurs in close dependence with chemical and physical factors affecting microorganisms. The growth and development of microorganisms is stimulated by external stimuli, i.e., environmental factors. Microorganisms have a relatively large tolerance range for changes in environmental conditions. Under the right conditions, microorganisms thrive very well. The adverse effects may cause the inhibition of cell growth, damage, or lead to the death of the microorganism. Considering the impact of environmental factors on microorganisms, it is not possible to identify the most important of them. The result effect of overlapping factors determines the possibility of the growth of certain microorganisms. The main factors affecting the growth are temperature, humidity, hydrogen ion concentration in the environment, oxidoreductive potential, water activity in the environment, and hydrostatic pressure. This article provides a comprehensive overview of the factors causing biodeterioration. The influence of external/internal environment on the surface of cultural monuments made of mineral building materials, i.e., stone, concrete, mortar, etc., is presented.
