Management Factors for Strategic BI Success

This chapter focuses on the factors necessary for strategic Business Intelligence (BI) success from a managerial point of view. BI results from the various information and human knowledge source systems, as well as the holistic view of the business processes within an organization. However, for the BI process to be synergetic within an organization, the management of the organization should be responsible for providing an environment that is conducive to yielding optimum BI generation and utilization. The goal should be to maximize the resources and minimize the inefficiencies that are systematic within an organization. Open lines of communication, with shared goals and objectives, and organization-wide standards are crucial for overall success. The factors for BI success are all interrelated and non-sequential. However, each needs to be executed and communicated with complete diligence on part of the management for overall strategic success. Lastly, to accommodate a healthy and ethical BI environment, the corporate philosophy and work methodologies may warrant necessary modification.

The article deals with the work of Russian state authorities during the period when a new coronavirus infection (SARSCoV- 2, previously – 2019-nCoV) threatens to spread and enter the national territory. The algorithm of work and the practical measures taken to combat infection from the point of view of the requirements of the national security Strategy of the Russian Federation, as well as Federal and regional regulatory legal acts in terms of protection are analyzed. The issues of the formation of special temporary governing bodies, the goals and objectives of their activities, as well as the forms of work used: monitoring the situation, rulemaking, interagency cooperation, building up forces and means to combat the pandemic, using the information and technical base, informing the population, supporting certain sectors of the economy and certain categories of citizens are considered. Conclusions are drawn about the organized, complex and interdepartmental nature of the events, the need to improve legislation in terms of establishing legal liability for offenses under the quarantine regime, creating conditions to prevent unjustified price increases for certain types of goods, systematically informing the population and preventing the spread of false rumors, the need to support certain sectors of the economy and certain categories of citizens.

The article discusses the issue of the formation of professionally important qualities (PIQ) in future military aviation navigators in the educational environment of a military university. The goal is to substantiate the activity approach as a practice-oriented basis for the formation of professional qualities in cadets-navigators. A review and analysis of scientific research, publications is carried out, allowing to discover the significance of the activity approach as a methodological direction of research. The methodological basis of the research is the provisions of the activity approach, which are used as the basis for the development and formation of the PIQ among cadets-navigators in the process of a practice-oriented educational process. The description of the results is associated with the characteristics of the content and organization of the professional activity of cadets-navigators in the process of implementation of industrial practice in the form of flight training. Using the activity approach, the main components of the activities of flight instructors, teachers and cadets-navigators are considered, from a unified methodological point of view, and thus the nature of their interaction is revealed. Emphasis have been determined that need to be paid attention to in the course of pedagogical activity on the formation of professional qualities among cadets-navigators. A definition is given and pedagogical technologies are proposed for the formation of professional experience and professional qualities in a future specialist in the context of a practice-oriented pedagogical process. The relationship between the experience gained by the trainee in the practice-oriented pedagogical process and the formation of professionally important personality traits of a specialist is considered. The main goals and objectives for the formation of the necessary professional qualities of cadetsnavigators during flight training have been determined. At the entrance of each stage of flight training, technologies are determined aimed at rational and purposeful impact on the student in order to develop competencies and personal qualities. Recommendations are offered to teachers and instructors to improve the efficiency of development and formation among cadets-navigators of the PIQ.

This is a critical perspective paper discussing the theoretical bases and methodological issues regarding dyadic decision-making processes in the oncological domain. Decision-making processes are of a central interest when one partner in a couple has cancer, and patients and partners make decisions together under an interactive and dynamic process. Given that, the attention in research is progressively shifting from patient and partner considered as individuals to a more holistic view of patient-partner considered as a dyad. The consideration of the dyadic nature of the decision-making represents a challenge from a theoretical and methodological point of view. The Interdependence Theory and the Dyadic Model of decision-making provide the theoretical bases to consider, respectively, the interdependence of the dyadic decision-making and the mechanisms affecting the couple-based decision-making. Dyadic processes require also an appropriate data analysis strategy that is discussed in the study as well. Conclusions of the present critical review suggest to develop a new line of research on dyadic decision-making in the oncological domain, testing the Dyadic Model presented in the study and considering the interdependence of the data with appropriate levels of analysis.

Presenting information to a wide audience through digital signage has now become a very popular way in both public areas (shopping centers, exhibitions) and areas accessible by limited groups of people (condominiums, office buildings). This method of information delivery can be used both for advertising and for non-commercial information. Although targeted information delivery to one person (for example, banner ads on web pages) is already very well developed, the design of digital signage systems that provide targeted information has not been paid enough attention. The paper proposes an approach to providing information through targeted digital signage. The research method used in this work is based on the design science research (DSR) approach. This is an approach to problem solving, motivated and initiated by a specific business problem and trying to solve this problem by creating and verifying information technology artifacts, such as prototypes, models, methods, or architectures. Based on this method, the problem was refined, in particular, from the point of view of the housing industry, which led to the development of a new solution to support business processes of stakeholder groups in the industry. Verification of the draft decision showed that additional technological solutions are needed, such as user identification support, search for common preferences for a group of users, ensuring confidentiality of interests and preferences of individual users. The paper also proposes technologies for user identification and finding common interests and preferences.

When communicating with a patient, a doctor is within a certain cultural practice (science-based medicine and state health care system), falling outside the limits of which is not legal. However, a broader understanding of medicine as a cultural phenomenon with a focus on health also requires a more varied perspective on patient care. The patient’s problem can be more complex than looking at it from science- and evidence-based point of view. Therefore, in risk communication as an element of work with adherence or as part of signing informed consent, different ways are needed to consider a patient’s situation. An ethical and psychological perspective on clinical interactions allows for a more holistic view of the disease.

Industry 4.0 is the digital transformation of the organization to meet the organizational goals and objectives. Industry 4.0 is making slow inroads in the Indian Engineering Industry. Therefore, there is a need for a study to understand the dynamics of the implementation in Indian Engineering Industry from a theoretical point of view. This study uses the Institutional Theory and ResourceBased theory to analyse the implementation of Industry 4.0. "Coercive", "normative" and "mimetic" pressure is used to analyse the forces on firms to implement Industry 4.0. Resource-based view is further used to analyse how the "physical, human, organizational, technological, financial and reputational capital" can be used in Indian Engineering Industry to attain competitive advantage. The study also develops a model to understand the dynamics of Industry 4.0 implementation. This is the first study to analyse the dynamics of Industry 4.0 implementation in Indian Engineering Industry. It will help the academicians to enrich the theoretical base of Industry 4.0 implementation. The industry will benefit from this analysis to understand the decision-making process for the implementation of Industry 4.0. The study can be used by the Government to decide policies that formal, informal rules and policies will help the Industries to implement Industry 4.0.

The purpose of the article is to propose a recommendation on the formation of a business model effective in modern conditions. Methods of system and factor analysis, economic and mathematical modeling, grouping, study and synthesis of information and assessment were applied. The essence and content of modern business models were analyzed from the point of view of achieving the commercial success of the organization, including using the example of Tinkoff JSC. It was concluded that the success of the organization at the current stage of business development depends on the development and implementation of new products and processes in the production and management of the organization. In the field of management, this idea is manifested in different forms of organizing business processes, for example, in business groups, business models.

The number of applied Business Intelligence (BI) systems is rapidly increasing worldwide, serving a broad range of sectors and business applications. BI systems serve a broad range of sectors and business applications by performing functions that consist of managing clients, resources, and employees through the collection and analysis of data that assist in describing these business entities and the various attributes of these objectives. Even though BI solutions have been implemented worldwide and the experience gained in implementation projects has largely enriched the academic research in this field, IT literature still lacks a uniform methodology for assessing the effects that BI systems have on business processes and organizations. Additionally, should any part of the BI implementation project fail to satisfy user needs or achieve the benefits expected from them, it is important to identify the failure's extent and sources in order to avoid financial and operational losses in similar projects. This chapter presents an analytical framework to help measure the success of implementations of various types of Business Intelligence systems, including Online Analytical Processing, Knowledge Management, and Decision Supporting tools. The framework and methodology presented here serve as a basis for evaluating the possible effects of technical, organizational, and personal factors on the success, partial success, or failure of BI system implementations. The framework is demonstrated via a case study analysis of a BI system implementation in an energy firm.

Whenever decision makers find out that they want to know more about how the business works and progresses, or why customers do what they do, then data miners are summoned, and business intelligence is to be built or altered. Data mining aims at retrieving valid, interesting, explicable connection between key factors for either operative reporting or supporting strategic planning. While data mining discovers static connections between factors, business intelligence visualizes relevant data for decision makers in order to make them identify fast changes and analyze precisely business states. In this chapter, the authors give a short introduction for data oriented decision support systems with data mining and business intelligence in it. While these techniques are widely used in business processes, there are much more bad practices than good ones. We try to make an attempt to demystify and clear the myths about these technologies, and determine who should and how (not) to use them.
