Technology, Functionality, and Applicability of Portals in E-HRM

The application of electronic human resource management (e-HRM) does rest heavily on underlying information technologies (IT). Up until now, regularly numerous internal “back-end” systems, external data, and services were combined with different “front-end” systems in order to support and network different actors such as HR-professionals, managers, service providers, employees, and applicants (Walker, 2001). Concerning the success of any e-HRM implementation this technological heterogeneity is ambivalent. On the one hand, the merged functions of such heterogeneous application clusters are the essential enablers of e-HRM. On the other hand, such heterogeneous application clusters burden users with numerous incoherent technologies. For some time, portal technology is pledged to overcome this problem by providing a single access point to all specific data, applications, and services any user needs (e.g., Raoi, 2003). Therefore, this article examines whether portal technology is feasible in e-HRM and hence can serve as a measure of integration of heterogeneous HR systems. To do this, first the current status of e-HRM technologies is briefly reported. Subsequently, the technical blueprint (“architecture”) and the general functionality of portal technologies are assessed. Based on this, the applicability of portals is conceptually analyzed by discussing two major application scenarios in e-HRM.

The article deals with the development of the model of students’ independent work under conditions of distance learning. The importance of the research into this problem is determined, on the one hand, by the growing possibilities of using various information technologies and, on the other hand by the necessity to adapt to the conditions of today’s world where independent work of students is becoming increasingly important. The advantages and disadvantages of distance learning have been explored. The author studied the role of independent work in the formation of the professional competences of students. The issue of modeling in the area of education has been tackled. The approaches to the development of the model of independent work have been identified and analyzed. The components of the model, such as the goal, the tasks, the content, the methods, the means and evaluation of results have been determined and characterized. The prospects of further development of this research are related to the exploration of models of independent work of students majoring in different areas.

This chapter highlights Muslim service providers of many kinds and the organizations in which they work. Muslim service providers, in different ways from advocates and community leaders, not only are at the front lines of the struggle against domestic violence (DV) in Muslim communities but also most directly and persistently interact with the mainstream DV landscape/movement. Service providers are at risk themselves in more acute ways as their direct contact with victims and survivors can also become contact with perpetrators who are a threat not only to DV victims but also to anyone who supports those victims. The chapter then explores the significance of their religious convictions and identities for the work they perform and for the ways in which they relate to their clients on the one hand and to “the system” on the other. It also sketches the landscape of Muslim DV services and offers some insights into the specific challenges this work entails.

This chapter provides an overview of past and present development in technical platforms of ERP systems and its use in enterprises. Taking into consideration the two layers of application and technology, we present the classical scenario of an ERP system as a monolithic application block. As the demands of modern enterprise software cannot be met by this concept, the shift to a more flexible architecture like the service-oriented architecture (SOA) is the current status quo of modern companies. Keeping in mind the administrative complexity of such structures, we will discuss the new idea of business Webs. The purpose of our chapter is, on the one hand, to show the historical development of ERP system landscapes and, on the other hand, to show the comparison of the presented concepts with respect to application and technology view.

In Hungary the operating medium of game management and the guided hunting sector is undergoing such a radical change nowadays that on the one hand it considerably influences the profit-producing ability of the sector, and on the other hand it sets the actors of the industry new challenges and opportunities. If the Hungarian hunting industry, which has a traditional past, also wishes to preserve its position in this changed business medium, it is essential that the new situation be thoroughly assessed, and the value-oriented marketing attitude be adapted. The phenomena presented in this essay discuss the consequences and causes of the appearance of new service providers regarding the supply side, and the content changes of the consumer group and the modification of earlier consumption preferences and their causes on the demand side. The changing of the two media jointly generate the adaptation of the value-oriented service - marketing concepts, by using which the areas to be developed and deemed as the narrow cross-section of consumer decisions can be determined. After specifying the target group specific marketing properties of the aove-mentioned – prestige – service, such services of high utility content can already be established successfully that can be positioned as a proper alternative for the new consumer group of higher value expectation. On the other hand, the employment and profitability indexes related to this sector may considerably be improved.

Image-guided locoregional therapies (LRTs) are a crucial asset in the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), which has proven to be characterized by an impaired antitumor immune status. LRTs not only directly destroy tumor cells but also have an immunomodulating role, altering the tumor microenvironment with potential systemic effects. Nevertheless, the immune activation against HCC induced by LRTs is not strong enough on its own to generate a systemic significant antitumor response, and it is incapable of preventing tumor recurrence. Currently, there is great interest in the possibility of combining LRTs with immunotherapy for HCC, as this combination may result in a mutually beneficial and synergistic relationship. On the one hand, immunotherapy could amplify and prolong the antitumoral immune response of LRTs, reducing recurrence cases and improving outcome. On the other hand, LTRs counteract the typical immunosuppressive HCC microenvironment and status and could therefore enhance the efficacy of immunotherapy. Here, after reviewing the current therapeutic options for HCC, we focus on LRTs, describing for each of them the technique and data on its effect on the immune system. Then, we describe the current status of immunotherapy and finally report the recently published and ongoing clinical studies testing this combination.

The connection between empathy and communication on the dental practice is two-sided: on the one hand, empathy requires good communication skills (active listening, imagination, rich vocabulary) to be properly sensed and communicated to the other party in communication. Successful transmission of empathy is as important as the feeling itself. On the other hand, having empathy can greatly help the successful communication and transmission of the desired information by the sender. Through empathy, the sender can understand the current status of the addressee and thus convey the message more correctly. So it turns out that empathy alone is hardly enough. Personal qualities are also needed to establish contact during the empathic process.

In only one decade, cryptocurrencies have witnessed significant growth, with Bitcoin being the most dominant one. They are not efficient payment methods, although they bring some benefits linked to the underlying technology they use (Blockchain). In reality, they function more as investment assets than as payment instruments and pose various risks, which are very similar to those encountered on capital markets (price volatility, fraud, market manipulation). In order to deal with these risks, regulation should apply to intermediaries who provide services in relation to cryptocurrencies, such as crypto wallets, operation of crypto exchanges and brokerage. To this end, the European legislator should consider two options. It could, on the one hand, bring cryptocurrency service providers within the scope of the existing financial services regime and thus modify MIFID II in order to include cryptocurrencies in the list of financial instruments. The European legislator could also, on the other hand, aim at creating a new appropriate and proportionate regime that draws on the existing one. Insofar as the existing regulatory framework was not designed with cryptocurrencies in mind and as some of the current rules may not be tailored to the specificities of these assets, the second option is preferable.

The last few decades have witnessed a greater transition in the communication sector due to the unpre- cedented innovations in technology. On the one hand, the emergence of broadband has rejuvenated and strengthened the wireline sector by making use of the existing wireline infrastructure. On the other hand, it has created an intense competition among the service providers. The competition has propelled the service providers to look beyond the idea of providing service and has forced them to consider other factors like establishing customer loyalty which stems out of customer satisfaction and service quality. Thus, the study aims to analyze the interrelationship among the above-mentioned factors with respect to digital subscriber line (DSL) service offered by the incumbent wireline operator in Puducherry. The study has found that customer satisfaction plays an intervening role between service quality and customer loyalty.

The advertising industry is undergoing a transformation process driven, on the one hand, by the growing use of information technologies in interpersonal and consumer relations, and on the other hand, by the breakdown of rigid boundaries between communication disciplines, resulting from the emergence of hybrid formats of branding actions, both in objectives and language. The Devassa Bem Loura case, chosen as an example of the ongoing transformations, illustrates the current phase of advertising in tension between past creative schemes and innovative trends of diffusion and persuasion.
