Today, the problem of rational use of urban space is acute due to the constant growth of urban population and urbanization of the world in general. The aging of construction stock in the city center requires the reconstruction or reconstruction of certain buildings and structures. The urgency of revitalization for the cities of Ukraine is determined and the need to restore not only factories but also public buildings in the center of these settlements is highlighted. In the course of writing this work, the foreign experience of revitalization of public buildings in the already formed urban spaces and several works of domestic scientists on the topic of revitalization as a method of environmental restoration were analyzed. The center of Vinnytsia has been studied for the presence of buildings that could be subject to revitalization, study of their previous purpose and assessment of the current state. An analysis of the problems that may arise during the revitalization of abandoned public buildings and areas in the center of Vinnytsia was also conducted. After the study, based on the results obtained, ways to eliminate these problems and variations of technical solutions required for construction work are identified. Coastal areas have been growing massively worldwide. The fast growth also affects the land value in either a positive or a negative way. Many scholars have studied land value and the factors that affect it in areas prone to sudden-onset disasters. In contrast, studies on urbanized coastal areas that suffer from slow-onset disasters are still lacking. Using a case study from Semarang City in Indonesia, this research aims at ameliorating this limitation. To comprehensively understand the aim, two research questions are addressed: (1) What is the distribution of land value in urbanized coastal areas? (2) How do the different distribution factors determine the land value? Based on in-depth interviews with key persons, map analyses, and desk studies, this research discovers that land value is distributed randomly among coastal areas. The dynamics of land value are determined by road access, distance, and accessibility to the city center and CBD, public facilities, transportation facilities, population composition, physical environment, and disasters. Surprisingly, the coastal areas in Semarang that experience combined disasters showed that disasters could not decrease the land value; the value in some areas is constant or even increasing. This shows the different impacts of disasters on land value for slow-onset disasters and sudden-onset disasters.

Suburbanization is a phase of the development of cities that consists in the growth of the suburban zone at the expense of the city center, which becomes gradually depopulated. The phenomenon of uncontrolled suburbanization (urban sprawl) causes infrastructural (including transport), environmental, social, economic, and legal problems. This paper presents the results of a study of the phenomenon of suburbanization conducted on the basis of vector data using two methods: one based on the use of a grid of primary square fields, and one based on the use of concentric zones/rings. The analyses were conducted in the surroundings of the Tricity agglomeration, which is located in the northern part of Poland on the Gulf of Gdansk, and covered the period from 2000 to 2018. Using a grid of primary fields, the areas of the greatest increase and decrease in the developed areas, irrespective of administrative boundaries, were determined for the selected periods, and the areas of the constant positive and negative balance of the buildings were identified. Using concentric rings, the process of the shifting of the new development zones was traced. The paper also refers to the route of the Pomeranian Metropolitan Railway (PKM), which was commissioned in 2015, and its potential impact on suburbanization in the Tricity area. The results made it possible to trace the suburbanization process in time and space and to learn the advantages and disadvantages of the use of vector data in spatial studies.

The Development of Independent Integrated City (Kota Terpadu Mandiri/KTM) Telang has been going on for 10 years and has succeeded in increasing economic growth in the KTM Telang and the surrounding area. Economic growth at the KTM Center has not been fully felt by the people of Hinterland. The lack of linkages between the city center and the region behind it is the reason for researchers to formulate a sustainable development strategy for the Telang hinterland. The study was conducted in the KTM Telang Area which included three sub-districts, namely Tanjung Lago Sub-District, Muara Telang, and Sumber Marga Telang. Primary data collection techniques are done through in-depth interviews with respondents selected by purposive sampling. The data analysis technique used in this study is the AHP (Analytical Hierarchy Product) method. Based on the results of interviews processed by the AHP method the development of the KTM Telang hinterland area is carried out by taking into account aspects sorted according to priority interests, among others through increasing power capacity (1.00), developing market networks (0.59), developing irrigation networks (0.41). Furthermore, social aspects are carried out through enhancing the ability of human resources (0.23), cooperation (0.17), improving communication (0.15), strengthening institutions and associations (0.07).

City centers worldwide are perceived as essential parts of the city, where city memories are preserved and its identity is expressed. They are planned to satisfy the functional requirements and pleasurable qualities of the city. Under the accelerating urbanization of the modern city, several challenges face these centers including demographic, economic, and environmental challenges. This requires a continuous and incremental urban development process based on clear strategy and action plans. Thus, this study focuses on urban development strategies of city centers, with a focus on Rafah city located in the Gaza Strip, Palestinian Territories. The geographic location of this city near the Palestinian-Egyptian borders makes it a promising commercial city at local and regional levels. Thus, the current situation of Rafah city center has been analyzed, and several development strategies have been proposed. This has been done through a field survey based on observation and a questionnaire directed to city center users. It has been found that there is a great potential of Rafah city center to be developed as a commercial center. In this regard, several strategies and required actions have been proposed in the fields of transportation, environmental quality, shopping activities, investment opportunities, and visual perception.

The article presents a comparative analysis of fortification art monuments in such East countries from Ancient Egypt to medieval China. An attempt is made to identify the main stages of the fortification development from a stand-alone fortress (citadel, fort) to the most complex systems of urban and border fortifications, including moats, walls and gates, battle towers. It is shown that the nature of these architectural structures is determined by the status of the city or settlement, its natural landscape, building structures and materials, the development of military and engineering art. The materials from poliorceticon (Greek: poliorketikon, poliorketika), illustrate the main types of siege machines and mechanisms. The advantages and disadvantages of boundary shafts and long walls (limes). The most striking examples are the defensive systems of Assyria, New Babylon, Judea and Ancient China.
