This chapter explores the role of SAP (a leading enterprise resource planning [ERP] system) in enabling knowledge management (KM) practice at a research university as a KM tool. A qualitative case study approach is pursued to achieve a rich and in-depth understanding of this organizational phenomenon. KM is understood by the university as consisting of four phases: knowledge creation, knowledge storage, knowledge sharing, and knowledge application. This study finds that the use of SAP system enables the process of knowledge management within the case organization through several means including idea generation, prime repository of knowledge, sharing workflow information, and facilitating decision making. Based on empirical evidence, this case provides a comprehensive understanding of the role of SAP systems in supporting KM process, which contributes to the theoretical domains of both ERP system and KM. This study provides guidelines for practitioners to create strategies for successful KM practice in concert with to the development of IT strategy.

This article provides a comprehensive review of the literature published in various articles dated back to 1998 on the role of Knowledge Management (KM) in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems. This article follows the literature published in this context focusing on two basic themes: KM supporting the ERP systems and KM integration into the ERP system. All the articles published on the relationship between KM and ERP systems published since 1998 were searched. Articles were sorted out on the basic themes they addressed. Most of the work on the role of KM in ERP systems was grouped into two main categories depending on the research subject matter. Integration of ERP systems being one of these basic themes was further investigated, enlisting all possible research articles published so far. Literature review on the KM and ERP relationship can be concludes that despite different relationships explored in the literature, KM has a vital role to play in the success of the ERP system. It is one of the critical success factors which complements the ERP systems to the extent that its absence will diminish the very essence, that is the adaption of ERP systems for the companies signified by the competitive advantage, market agility, and organization efficiency.

The objective of this study is to examine the mediating role of enterprise resource planning (ERP) system adoption on the relationship between performance of medium enterprises (PMEs) and organizational culture (OC), communication process (CP), organizational structure (OS), information technology readiness (ITR), technological change (TC), government policy (GP), information access (IA) and technology infrastructure support (TIS). This study also includes the role of top management support (TMS) as a moderating variable on the relationship between ERP and PME. This study proposes a theoretical framework based on theories such as resource-based view, contingency theory and diffusion of innovation. The data were collected from medium-sized enterprise (ME) organizations operating in South Western Nigeria. A total of 658 questionnaires were distributed to selected MEs and only 355 were returned and used for the analysis. The empirical data were analyzed using the Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM). The results showed that CP, ERP, GP, IA, ITR, OC, OS, TC, TIS and TMS have significant direct relationships with the ERP and PME while GP is not significantly linked to ERP adoption. Moreover, IA, ITR, OC, OS and TC have no significant relationship with PME while ERP system adoption mediates the relationship between the CP, OC, OS, TC and TIS with PME. The findings showed that the presence of CP, OC, OS, TC and TIS will influence the PMEs in the adoption of ERP and confirmed that TMS plays an important role in moderating the relationship between ERP and PME. The findings provide important insights to CEO, managers, policymakers and researchers to help them understand the importance of using the ERP system to enhance the performance of medium-sized enterprise (PMSE) organizations. Limitation of the study is based on MEs only. In this light, future research can focus on the evolution of not only small enterprises but also large firms.

ERP-Enterprise Resource Planning is an advanced management tool, which can provide effective service for enterprise purchasing manufacturing, marketing and goods circulation etc. The fast changes of market and drastic competition between enterprises request ERP system can support enterprise Business Process Reengineering and reconstructed business process. This paper analyzes the disadvantages of traditional ERP system, the request of Business Process Reengineering, then brings forward a workflow based method for analyzing, building, developing and executing ERP system. The research of this thesis is built on J2EE application platform, the application model, component implementing and work mechanism of workflow in ERP system.

Enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems are increasingly being adopted by many organizations. The cost, time, and effort of the organization need to be reflected in the uptake and use of the system by employees of the organizations in question. ERP system implementation readiness is positively associated with the ERP implementation success. It is therefore important to measure the success of such software in adopting firms which largely influenced by the readiness of the firm for ERPs. Many studies focus on other aspects of readiness leaving out the major players who are employees. This chapter discusses an effort towards extending CREM evaluation model for employee readiness with the aim of highlighting the role of their readiness in the overall success of ERP implementation. Research findings of this study help decision makers of organizations to attain a comprehensive picture about required actions to be accomplished for achieving readiness for implementing an ERP system.

This study examines whether knowledge sharing has influence on organizational performance, where Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) is used as a mediator connecting these two variables. ERP system is unique because it requires users who have more knowledge and have special skills, in contrast to usual users who usually do their job manually. In corporation world, an integrated system like ERP should be well-socialized at maximum rate to reach performance effectiveness and efficiency that will surely result in organizational productivity. Nonetheless, in many organizational cases there are still numerous employees who decline to share knowledge in regeneration process due to their fears of being replaced by younger ones and this keeps the knowledge sharing process on hold. With total of 500 employees in a textile company in Bandung County, the writer takes 250 samples as the population representation. Data analysis is undergone through Structure Equating Model (SEM) with assistance of SPSS application, the writer can see the relationship of knowledge sharing and its influence on organizational performance.

An ERP (enterprise resource planning) is an information system that makes it possible to manage and monitor on a daily basis all the information and operational services of a company. It is able to effectively reduce the cost of products, improve customer service experience, and increase business competitiveness. However, the implementation rate of the ERP system is much lower than originally planned, and many companies have not achieved the intended objectives. This situation is due to many factors (high implementation costs, technical complexity, lack of well-trained employees, lack of incentive mechanisms, etc.), but the key element is the separation of relations between the ERP system and enterprise strategy, organizational structure, and business processes. The purpose of this paper is to examine the role of IT governance in achieving ERP performance with a focus on the implementation phase.

Due to response to the business goals, organizations need to implement enterprise resource planning systems. But the risk of failure in the implementation project of these systems is so high, therefore paying close attention to the effective factors of implementation is very necessary. One of the effective factors is knowledge management (KM). In this study, the role of Knowledge management processes in implementation of enterprise resource planning systems is studied and the existence of knowledge management as a required factor will be emphasized. Research data, in the questionnaire format have been gathered from experts in the field of enterprise resource planning system in Iranian companies. Some of the studied organizations have implemented this system and others were in the implementing phase. Data analysis with structural equation modeling (SEM) methodology by Lisrel software shows positive relation between knowledge management processes and Success of enterprise resource planning system implementation.
