Travellers' Intentions to Use Facial Recognition Systems for Authentication in Hotels

With the rapid development of this technology, facial recognition systems have become widely adopted in recent years. The application of the facial recognition systems by the hotel industry has resulted in a novel service model, as well as in high expectations. These systems can be used to improve conventional services and can also enhance hotel security. Based on theory, this paper employs a technology acceptance model to gain a deeper understanding of how travelers' intention to use facial recognition systems for authentication is formed. This paper employed the survey method and used data from 413 subjects to develop a model yielding results with both theoretical and management implications. These results highlight the advantages and potential commercial value of facial recognition systems, and can provide useful analysis and suggestions for the hotel industry.

Objective- This paper attempts to explore the continuance purchase intention among Malaysian consumers on the internet, through the conceptual framework as modified from the Technology Acceptance Model. Methodology/Technique The research data has been collected through the use of an internet-based survey method, with a convenience sample of 300 Malaysian respondents in June 2014; whereas, data analysis is further conducted using the SPSS software, through the measurements of a simple linear regression test, mediation test and moderation test. Findings Results show a positive relationship between perceived usefulness and trust; while the continuance intentionfor online purchase is positively significant to perceived usefulness. The partial mediating role of subjective norm is further identified, between perceived usefulness and continuance intention. It is also understood that both male and female perceive the usefulness of website as an important factor toward their intention to online re-purchase. Novelty - Most of the researches are conducted solely upon the factors or purchase intention, limited studies have been done to investigate the continuance purchase intention among fellow consumers. PurposeRobots, as the crystallization of new artificial intelligence, are being applied in various fields, especially the hotel industry. They are seizing the opportunities, using technology to improve the overall quality and comprehensive competitiveness. However, they also cause many problems due to practical limitations. The purpose of this paper is to study customers' recognition and acceptance of hotel service robots to guide the successful promotion of this technology.Design/methodology/approachThis paper proposed a comprehensive model based on the theory of planned behavior, the technology acceptance model and then the perceived value-based acceptance model. Exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, grouped regression analysis and path analysis was adopted to validate the impacts of each variable to obtain the final reliable model using data collected from hotel guests using a self-designed questionnaire.FindingsThe empirical research based on the theoretical model shows that the constructed conceptual model can thoroughly explain the influencing factors of hotel robot acceptance, enrich the acceptance theory and provide academic support for the use and popularization of hotel service robots. Among all variables, attitude, usefulness and perceived value are the factors that have the greatest impact on acceptance. They have significant differences in the effects of adjustment variables such as gender, educational level, whether hotel robots have been used, and whether other robot services have been experienced on different paths in the model.Practical implicationsThis paper explored the customer acceptance of service robots in hotels, helped to understand the process of decision-making on service robot selection and contributed to the theoretical extension of the hospitality industry. The work guides hotel management to promote better-personalized products and services of robot technology in the hospitality industries.Originality/valueThe acceptance study on hotel service robots provides insight into the hotel industry to understand customers' attitudes and acceptance of emerging technology.

The implementation of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC) in the educational field has become the way of learning in many educational institutions worldwide. MOOC is believed could help to promote active learning among language learners. In Malaysian polytechnic settings, MOOC has just recently implemented for the English course. Thus, this study aimed to investigate polytechnics English as a Second Language (ESL) lecturers' acceptance of using Massive Open Online Course for teaching ESL and the challenges they faced in using MOOC. The methodology used was the survey method where a set of questionnaires was developed and adapted from the Technology Acceptance Model. The respondents for this study were 34 ESL lecturers from different polytechnics in Malaysia. The findings revealed that polytechnic ESL lecturers have positive perceptions towards the ease of use and usefulness of MOOC for teaching ESL. The investigation also revealed the challenges faced by the lecturers in using MOOC for teaching ESL. The results would contribute positively to the policy makers, developers, and administrators to gain more insight on the lecturers' perceptions and challenges related to the use of technology for language teaching and learning in any higher learning institutions.

This study aims to determine the community’s acceptance using of the modification Technology Acceptance Model approach for internet television services. The type of research is descriptive and verification with the descriptive survey method. For operational variables consist of perceived usefulness, perceived enjoyment, perceived quality, attitude, and intention. Data obtained from Indonesia for internet television which is amounting to 213 people. The data were collected using a questionnaire instrument. Questionnaires have been prepared based on indicators of each variable by using Likert’s scale. The result of descriptive analysis showed that Indonesian people accepted internet television services using the modification technology acceptance model approach. The result of CB-SEM showed the model of internet television is quite fit and the hypothesis indicate that perceived usefulness, perceived enjoyment, perceived quality has influence toward intention through attitude in simultaneously and partial.

How does the public perceive facial recognition technology and how much do they accept facial recognition technology in different political contexts? Based on online surveys resembling the Internet-connected population in China, Germany, the United Kingdom, and the United States, our study finds that facial recognition technology enjoys generally highest acceptance among respondents in China, while acceptance is lowest in Germany, and the United Kingdom and the United States are in between. A closer examination through the lens of an integrated technology acceptance model reveals interesting variations in the selected four countries based, among other factors, on socio-demographic factors as well as perceived consequences, usefulness, and reliability of facial recognition technology. While previous research has pointed out that facial recognition technology is an instrument for state surveillance and control, this study shows that surveillance and control are not foremost on the minds of citizens in China, Germany, the United Kingdom, and the United States, but rather notions of convenience and improved security.

This study was put together to examine the influence of TAM (Technology Acceptance Model) extension model on customer adoption of e-banking practice in Lagos state. Furthermore, to capture the extended model four (4) elements of innovation characteristics namely innovation relative advantage, innovation complexity, innovation compatibility and innovation information were added into original TAM model to determine their relationship with customer adoption. The study utilized descriptive research design and collected data through cross-sectional survey method. Validated questionnaires of four hundred copies were given to the needed respondents and the data collected were analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistical tools. Results revealed a substantial relationship between the dimensions of TAM extension model and customer adoption. The study recommends that an innovation will do very well if the innovation is made to capture all the variables investigated in this study to ensure rapid diffusion/adoption of the innovation for the whole process to be successful.

In the era of Industry 4.0, the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is vital in agricultural extension. However, there are still variations in the use and adoption of ICTs at the  farmer levels as not every region can optimize the use of ICT in agricultural extension. This study aims to identify the diversity of access to ICT by farmers, and identify farmers' perceptions of the use of ICT. This study used a survey method with quantitative descriptive data analysis, distributed to 73 sample respondents. The questionnaire was compiled using the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) theory lens, using two aspects in analyzing technology acceptance: perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use. The results showed that the use of smartphones by farmers was high with access ownership above 60%. ICT is well accepted by respondents compared to conventional media. There is a significant relationship between the education level of farmers and perceived ease of use, with a correlation coefficient of .322. It can be concluded that smartphones have considerable potential to be used in agricultural extension, and there is a need of strategy to improve the ease of use of smartphones for farmers with low education level.
