Innovation is a key for the growth, productivity, competitiveness, survival, and profitability in the today’s competitive world. This paper examines the relevant aspects of literature on invention and innovation concepts, including characteristics of innovation, types of innovation, diffusion of innovation, innovation process, types of innovators, importance of innovation, tools and techniques for innovation. This study forms an extensive review of relevant academic literature through continuous iterative and comprehensive literature study to develop a conceptual framework. Consequently, tools and techniques to generate new ideas for innovation are explored and, to improve learning, how these innovative tools and techniques can be used in educational settings is explained.

Ideas that have an impact on social change must be communicated to the community. As objects, they not only know about the changes that have occurred, but they must also support and be involved so that they become part of the changes. People have always assumed that innovation always ends with the adoption of an innovation that is conveyed to them. So according to this assumption, it is as if the diffusion of innovation only focuses on spreading innovation programs or ideas to the community and only sees innovation as new ideas, ideas, methods, or products in the perspective of development communication.This study aims to find out how the innovation and development of used goods business occurred in Pengadang Village and to find out how the role of communication in the diffusion of secondhand goods business innovation occurred in Pengadang Village. This study also seeks to find out the communication of secondhand innovation in order to develop community empowerment programs. And also its influence on the community's strategy for the development of the used goods business. This study uses a qualitative approach. Data was collected by means of observation and interview techniques, also supported by literature study. The results show that through the process of diffusion of innovation, this business has now become popular and is widely practiced by the people in Pengadang Village and with communication, the secondhand goods business in Pengadang Village is now a large growing business and is widely cultivated by the local community. The implementation of the communication strategy in the innovation of used goods processing is going well. Such as outreach activities, making pamphlets, brochures, exhibitions, and using the media to encourage the process of rapid diffusion of innovation in Pengadang Village.

AbstractSo far, researchers have used a wellbeing-centered approach to catalyze successful intergenerational collaboration (IGC) in innovative activities. However, due to the subject’s multidisciplinary nature, there is still a dearth of comprehensive research devoted to constructing the IGC system. Thus, the purpose of this study is to fill a research void by providing a conceptual framework for information technology (IT) system designers to use as a jumping-off point for designing an IGC system with a wellbeing-oriented design. A systematic literature study was conducted to identify relevant terms and develop a conceptual framework based on a review of 75 selected scientific papers. The result consists of prominent thematic linkages and a conceptual framework related to design technology for IGC systems. The conceptual framework provides a comprehensive overview of IGC systems in the innovation process by identifying five barrier dimensions and using six wellbeing determinants as IGC catalysts. Moreover, this study discusses future directions for research on IGC systems. This study offers a novel contribution by shifting the technology design process from an age-based design approach to wellbeing-driven IGC systems. Additional avenues for investigation were revealed through the analysis of the study’s findings.

PurposeThe author has spent the last ten years studying the innovation process in modern organizations and found that the most successful firms pursue an innovation strategy termed technology brokering.Design/methodology/approachHow are the objectives achieved? Include the main method(s) used for the research. What is the approach to the topic and what is the theoretical or subject scope of the paper?FindingsRather than chasing wholly new ideas, these successful firms focus on recombining old ideas in new ways. The results have sparked many technological revolutions and produced a steady stream of growth opportunities for existing businesses.Research limitations/implicationsNeeds cases showing that technology brokering, and the complementary work practices and people, can successfully execute such a strategy.Practical implicationsBy transforming traditional R&D organizations through a strategy of technology brokering firms can build competencies for continuous innovation..Originality/valueTo pursue a strategy of recombinant innovation, corporate leaders must put themselves in position to be the first to see how existing technologies in one market could be used to create breakthrough innovations in another.

Gamification, or the use of game elements in non-game contexts, has become a popular and increasingly accepted method of engaging learners in educational settings. However, there have been few comparisons of different kinds of courses and students, particularly in terms of discipline and content. Additionally, little work has reported on course instructor/designer perspectives. Finally, few studies on gamification have used a conceptual framework to assess the impact on student engagement. This paper reports on findings from evaluating two gamified multimedia and social media undergraduate courses over the course of one semester. Findings from applying a multidimensional framework suggest that the gamification approach taken was moderately effective for students overall, with some elements being more engaging than others in general and for each course over time." Post-term questionnaires posed to the instructors/course designers revealed congruence with the student perspective and several challenges pre- and post-implementation, despite the use of established rules for gamifying curricula.

AbstractThis study wants to find out how the diffusion of innovation occurs in Islamic boarding schools Sabilussalam, how these pesantren students decide to jointly use the Yaumi application. An application that provides Islamic features to support the improvement of a Muslim's worship. This study uses a phenomenological research method. Phenomenological research tries to explain the meaning of a concept or phenomenon in experience which is based on the consciousness of several individuals. In the innovation diffusion theory there are two main points, namely the diffusion elements of innovation and the diffusion decision process of innovation. The results of this study indicate that the process of acceptance and use of the Yaumi application by Sabilussalam students has passed the stages mentioned in the innovation diffusion theory. AbstrakPenelitian ini ingin mengetahui bagaimana difusi inovasi terjadi di pesantren sabilussalam, bagaimana santri-santri pesantren ini memutuskan untuk bersama-sama menggunakan aplikasi Yaumi. Sebuah aplikasi yang menyajikan fitur-fitur Islami untuk mendukung peningkatan ibadah seorang muslim.  Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian fenomenologi. Penelitian fenomenologi mencoba menjelaskan makna konsep atau fenomena dalam pengalaman yang didasari oleh kesadaran  beberapa individu. Dalam teori difusi inovasi terdapat dua poin utama, yaitu elemen difusi inovasi dan proses putusan difusi inovasi. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan proses penerimaan dan penggunaan aplikasi Yaumi oleh santri Sabilussalam telah melewati tahap-tahap yang disebutkan dalam teori difusi inovasi.


Digital-Innovation Technology calls for reinvention of innovations that offers new opportunities and challenges to design new products and services in the era of hi-tech competition. Digitalization and innovations are pressing issues for business in almost each and every industry. The scope to create new digital value chains increases at a very high speed due to interconnection of people and systems . It is to be believed that wonderful new ideas can open up new ways of looking at various Social Problems because of Digi-Inno connection between people and software. However creating digitalized product and services often creates new problems and challenges to the firm that are trying to innovate. The concept of reinvention in innovation process is redesigning the innovations coupled with advances in science and technology. Technological innovations are only one of many kinds of innovation that develops variety of terms like social innovation, sustainable innovation, responsible and green innovation. In this paper, we tried to give special emphasis on issues of digital innovation management which helps to seek a better base for reinventing innovation management research in digital innovative world.

This study aims to determine the form of presentation of operas Batak, to describe a way of presenting opera Batak, to describe the form of presentation tortor, and to know the role tortor in staging opera Batak. The theoretical foundation of this research rests on several theories studied, namely the theory of presenting opera Batak, tortor presentation shape theory and theory of the role, with the conceptual framework as a translation problem contained therein. This research was conducted in the street Bah Bolon Kiri (Lorong IV) No. 96 Siantar, in December 2015 to February 2016. The method in this research use descriptive qualitative research methods. The population in this study were 1 informants who are knowledgeable about dance (tortor) in staging opera Batak, 1 director, 1 music player, and the first person who joins the cast in the opera Batak, the number of samples to be studied amounted to 4 people. Data collected through observation, interviews, documentation, and literature study. The results of this study indicate that the form of presentation of opera Batak has important elements, namely: a play (drama), dialog, music (gondang), song (ende) and dance (tortor). Tortor the form of presentation of operas Batak presented three times, at the beginning, middle and end of the scene. Tortor role in staging opera Batak serve to embellish what is dictated by the script becomes symbolic, ensuring variation in the opera  aesthetics, strengthening the scene / act story, become entertainment and become transition between scenes

Genetically Modified (GM) food has been positioned as a significant innovation with a huge potential for alleviating malnutrition in developing economies. Some potential beneficiaries, however, have been reluctant to accept GM food. Many countries have GM food regulations and some have banned GM organisms. This chapter focuses on barriers to diffusion of innovation and analyses the case of GM food diffusion in Sri Lanka using the Rogers's classical model of innovation diffusion. A complete ban on GM products in 2001 was later relaxed to demand only GM labelling regulations, but GM food has not gained a prominent position in the Sri Lankan market. The attributes of GM food perceived by consumers, the communication system, government responses and broader social expectations have been unfavorable to GM food diffusion. The case of GM food innovation in Sri Lanka demonstrates the very social nature of the process, involving far more than seed producers, growers and related commercial enterprises.

Innovation as a core value for most organizations is not simply the application of new technology to achieve a business goal: it must be directly expressed through brand experience. Brand driven innovation is human centric. New ideas require a welcoming organizational culture, positive mindsets and internal advocacy to grow. Businesses can really innovate when employees become their brand evangelists. In this chapter, we initially explore internal branding values and tactics. We assess its role as critical bridge over vision, culture and image gaps in case studies to bring awareness on success and risk factors. Employee perceptions of communication practices are captured and matched to aspiration, missions and organizational values. From this premise, we establish internal branding as practice that affects the company's ability to innovate effortlessly and organically. The strong liaison between diffusion of innovation and brand endorsement is confirmed, consolidating the vital role of internal branding in the implementation of an organization's business strategy.
