PurposeThis current paper attempts to bring more light to the current debate of understanding phenomenological research methods, in order to clarify the interpretive phenomenological inquiry with Heidegger's philosophy of phenomenology.Design/methodology/approachThe paper uniquely presents the three distinctions of Heideggerian thoughts in conducting interpretive phenomenological research: (1) realizing the problem of identity; (2) recognizing the inadequacy of ontology; and (3) interpreting the subject matter through historical critiques.FindingsThe paper also discusses the basis of phenomenological research issues of a priori knowledge, data analysis process and qualitative research issues of validity, reliability, and creditability. In the conclusion and recommendation, this paper suggests six key points to implement a proper research strategy to employ Heideggerian phenomenological inquiry in social science and policymaking research where investigators are dealing with the multiplicity of existing and alternative worldviews.Originality/valueThe paper idea is fresh and adds new knowledge to the field.

This study aims to determine how users respond to the use of social media during online learning after the COVID-19 pandemic from the perspective of uncertainty reduction theory. This study uses a phenomenological research method, where data collection is carried out by means of Focus Group Discussion (FGD), which was conducted twice on 15 users of online learning applications. Through this research, it is known that the user's response from the compulsion in using the online learning model is that the subject tends to feel mostly bored, difficult to discipline, tendency to be lazy, and has the proclivity to be dishonest. In addition, in terms of emotional connection, teachers and students do not have a good bond, which is far different when using the offline learning modality. The majority of users prefer to utilize the offline learning system when the pandemic ends. One person prefers to use a hybrid system which is a combination of online and offline learning method.

Objective: To investigate the cognition degree of male nursing students to HPV and nine-valent vaccine and the influencing factors of male willingness to receive nine-valent HPV vaccine. Methods: Qualitative research semi-structured interview was conducted on male nursing students, and phenomenological research method was used to record, ran scribe, encode and classify the interview data and extract the topic. The number of interviews was determined according to the information saturation. Results: Seven themes were summarized in this study, which were mainly divided into two aspects. The promotion of vaccination includes two aspects: self-benefit and benefit of others. The prevention of vaccination mainly includes low awareness rate, feminization of vaccine information, high cost and safety and effectiveness. Conclusion: Male nursing students have low cognition degree and inoculation intention to human papillomavirus and nine-valent vaccine, so it is necessary to further strengthen publicity and carry out college education to improve vaccination.

This qualitative study explored the experiences of university students watching Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response (ASMR) videos towards psychological effects and mindfulness. ASMR experiences were shown to phenomenologically overlapped with mindfulness and well-being. This study entailed a phenomenological research method used in determining the nature of human experiences regarding a phenomenon through the descriptions of participants in the study. Snowball sampling method was used whereby locating the additional informants was expanded through the recommendation of others for interview. The Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) and Positive Emotion, Engagement, Relationship, Meaning, Accomplishment (PERMA) Model were employed to analyse written interview transcripts. Findings revealed how participants viewed ASMR as applicable to enhance their well-being. ASMR is also seen as a potential benefit for participants to improve mindfulness; Participants also reported a better ability to cope with stress and a notable reduction in perception of cognitive workload. A future inquiry could investigate the effects of ASMR on specific cognitive activities.

Unemployment, lack of education and few opportunities are, but few of the factors that lead to young people in South Africa and elsewhere turning to crime. These young people face the law after being caught and they get incarcerated inthe correctional service centres. It seems that many of educational programmes aimed at rehabilitating young inmate offenders seem not being effective as some of these young inmate offenders become hardened criminals through institutionalization in correctional service centres. This paper thus, explored the views of inmate young offenders of the benefits of educational programmesthey derived while incarcerated in South Africa. The young inmate offenders‟ age ranged from 17 years to 27years, 5 females and8 males. A qualitative phenomenological research method was used with a sample of 6 inmate young offenders to describe young inmate offenders‟ views of benefits they derive from educational programmes in correctional centres. Based on the available and access to the participants a purposive sample was employed for this research study. An open-ended questionnaire instrument which contained a set of a variety of questions on benefits of educational programmes were completed by the research participants. Toconduct this study in line with ethical considerations, permission was given by the university‟s ethical committee and later the Department of Correctional Services allowed the study to be conducted in their correctional centres. Data that was thematically analysed discovered educational programmes offered and availed to inmate young offenders to be beneficial. The study showed that although formal education was offered, the educational programmes faced many other challenges which were also mentioned in other studies and even in this study the offenders pointed them out, e.g.lack of resources and shortage of staff. The study also revealed that the rehabilitation programme played a critical role inreducing gangformation and fights in the entire inmate community. The collaboration of the state, community, family members of the offenders, churches, traditional leaders and non-profit organisations is required in rehabilitation of the IYO.

Introduction. Epilepsy is a complex disease. The consequences of epilepsy are varied and manifested in all aspects of people with epilepsy’s (PWE) lives. The purpose of this study was to define individual experiences of epilepsy, expressed in narratives, and to find the stem of each narrative—a core event in the PWE’s experience of the disease around which they structure their overall narrative. Method. A qualitative, phenomenological research method was used. We conducted semistructured interviews with 22 PWE and analysed the content using a combination of inductive and deductive methods, based on which we determined the stem narratives. Results. The stem narrative of the epilepsy narrative is an important life experience of PWE. We divided the stem narratives into four groups: lifestyle changes, relationship changes, the consequences of the inciting incident, and the limitations of the disease. In our study, we found that the stem narrative was, in all but one case, a secondary (psychosocial) factor resulting from epilepsy, but not its symptom (epileptic seizure). The stem narrative, where aspects of life with epilepsy are exposed, points to a fundamental loss felt by PWE. Conclusion. The narrative of the experience of epilepsy has proven to be an important source of information about the disease and life of PWE and also about the aspects at the forefront of life with epilepsy. The secondary epilepsy factors that we identified in the stem narratives were the greatest burden for PWE in all cases but one.

This research revolves around the causes of female dropouts in Karachi at different educational levels, including primary, secondary, high school and university levels. In this research exploratory sequential mixed method has been used. After the literature review, the phenomenological research method for the qualitative phase of research has been adopted. In this regard, the interviews have been taken by different educationalists in Karachi on the basis of their experience and age via the convenience sampling method. All the hypotheses have been tested and accepted at this stage. Under the umbrella of results of the first phase, the questionnaire has been designed for quantitative research, i.e. the second phase of the research. The sample size for the second phase is 200; the data has been collected via quota sampling. The frequency of every element included in the quantitative phase has been detected separately by using descriptive analysis through SPSS. Finally, conclusions have been made on the basis of data analysis.
