Development of a Faculty Work Load System

In a Thai public university, a faculty member has multiple duties besides teaching and researching, such as administrative work: the committee members in many faculty projects. The workload for a faculty member varies depends on the university policy, the faculty policy and the department policy. The target at the university policy being the research and teaching, a faculty member must concentrate on these tasks. However, the administrative work cannot be avoided and the workload depends on the number of people in the department. Each university has different ways to divide the workload. In the author’s university, the information on the work done on each type of job is split. Thus, in this paper, the author describes the case on gathering the workload information and proposes to integrate the information which helps organize the workload for the whole department effectively. The author presents the developed information system which divides the overall workload based on existing information and views the workload for each faculty member, and department. They also discuss the integration issues to existing Management Information Systems in the university.

Using university cost data and student data collected from principles of economics classes at a medium-sized public university, this article analyzes a university policy to dramatically increase class size. We find that substantial monetary savings are realized by offering large classes. Although large classes do not produce a loss of learning, their students have a 38% decreased probability of enrolling in future economics classes. These results suggest that the monetary savings that universities receive from dramatically increasing class size may translate into a loss of enrollment for the university or an internal reallocation of resources between departments.

The Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León (UANL) is a large public university situated in Monterrey, Mexico. Most of the programmes, including a pharmacy related programme (Químico Farmacéutico Biólogo/Chemist Pharmacist Biologist), were running at the university until the pandemic. A lockdown was put in place where it was established that schools and non-essential jobs should be carried out from home. Since then, the UANL has started a training effort to migrate all current classes to online emergency educational schemes. Microsoft Teams was designated as the main platform. Students and faculty members were trained in its use and, after one month, classes were successfully restarted on this platform. The chosen platform was used to create virtual classrooms, problem-based learning was encouraged, and videos and discussion panels were used especially in place of pre-COVID-19 planned laboratory classes. The semester ended with good results, but faculty member training continues and the adaptation to a better organised online programme is now running. Options to try to compensate the lack of in person laboratory classes are still being explored.

Media images of and text concerning people who are overweight or obese frequently perpetuate weight stigma. Additionally, limited literature exists on policy and weight stigma. This qualitative study explored college student perspectives of body messaging at a public university, and investigated university policy and images of people used on university webpages for having weight inclusive or weight stigmatizing body messaging. Body messaging included images of people and text. The study engaged a sample of seven participants through photo-elicitation to collect body messages the university used in print materials and social media platforms. Participants then completed a questionnaire about each photo. Additionally, the researchers collected additional images of people from the university webpages. From the 27 participant-generated photos, over a third did not have size diversity or were placed in non-prominent locations on campus. Almost three-fourths of the 65 images of people collected by the researchers from the university webpages, did not include size diversity. Based upon the research findings, recommendations are provided for university constituents on how to promote weight inclusive environments through policy, programs, and practice.


Emergency management is one of the priorities of the contemporary universities, because of the risks faced by the university work of academic and technical fields. This risk may be the result of the nature of the work done by the human element or of natural disasters or through the risks integrated between them. The study aimed to determine the availability of security and safety procedures in the Islamic University facilities in the Gaza, Palestine. Also, to prepare proposed scenarios for emergency management based on risk assumptions. The study used the descriptive and analytical methodologies of the situation in laboratory facilities and engineering workshops by using the interview tool with the emergency specialists in the safety and security committee. The most important results of the study were that the security and safety standards of the Islamic University are not directly defined by international, regional or national standards, but the necessary requirements are deducted from the University. Also, the risks that threaten the University include: fire risk, the risk of explosions, the risk of bombing, mechanical hazards and human hazards, where the risk of fire is most likely. The study recommended the need to form an emergency committee to include all faculties in the University and work to determine the responsibilities accurately, also prepare a guide to educate students and staff of the threats of risks at the Islamic University, and the formation of a specialized team to evacuate facilities and evacuate the special needs in the event of an emergency. Keywords: The Islamic University-Gaza, Emergency, Risk, Security and Safety, Emergency Response. --------------------------------------------- تعد إدارة الطوارئ من الأولويات لدى الجامعات المعاصرة؛ وذلك لما يتعرض له العمل الجامعي من مخاطر في المجالات الأكاديمية والفنية، وهذا الخطر قد يكون ناتجاً عن طبيعة العمل الذي يقوم به العنصر البشري أو من الكوارث الطبيعية أو من خلال المخاطر المدمجة بينها. هدفت الدراسة إلى تحديد مدى توافر إجراءات الأمن والسلامة في مرافق الجامعة الإسلامية بغزة، فلسطين، مع إعداد سيناريوهات مقترحة لإدارة الطوارئ في الجامعة الإسلامية بناءً على فرضيات الخطر. وتم استخدام المنهج الوصفي والمنهج التحليلي للوضع القائم في المرافق المخبرية والمشاغل الهندسية, وذلك من خلال استخدام أداة المقابلة مع المختصين في مجال الطوارئ في لجنة الأمن و السلامة. كانت أهم نتائج الدراسة أن معايير الأمن والسلامة المتبعة في الجامعة الإسلامية غير محددة بشكل مباشر من المعايير الدولية أو الإقليمية أو الوطنية، ولكن يتم استقطاع ما يلزم الجامعة منها، كذلك المخاطر التي تهدد الجامعة الإسلامية تشمل خطر الحريق، وخطر الانفجارات، وخطر القصف، والأخطار الميكانيكية, والمخاطر البشرية بحيث تعتبر مخاطر الحريق الأكثر احتمالاً. وقد أوصت الدراسة بضرورة تشكيل لجنة طوارئ تشمل كل الكليات في الجامعة, وتحديد المسئوليات بها بدقة، وإعداد دليل إرشادي معلن للتوعية الطلبة والعاملين من المخاطر التي تهدد الجامعة، وتشكيل فريق متخصص لإخلاء المرافق وإخلاء ذوي الاحتياجات الخاصة في حالة حدوث طارئ. الكلمات المفتاحية: الجامعة الإسلامية بغزة، إدارة الطوارئ، المخاطر، الأمن والسلامة، الاستجابة للطوارئ.

The core issue of this paper is a quality in the lifelong learning. The aim of the contribution is to describe the area, level and dimensions of quality in a wide range of lifelong learning programs, respectively of further education, which are realized in the sense of § 60 and 60a of the Higher Education Act. The content of the paper also focuses on the theoretical and practical starting points of the quality phenomenon, both from the historical point of view and especially from the perspective of the current focus and concept of university policy in the European and Czech region. The paper also presents the results of a survey focusing on approaches to the quality assurance systems in the concept of components at selected public university.

This paper focuses on digitalization archival photo Diponegoro University, as the basis for Diponegoro University towards the era of public information openness. This basis can be realized among others bythe publication digital photo archives of the three traditional missions of academic institutions (tridharma perguruan tinggi)  and  digital photo archive of administrative activity of Head of the University of Diponegoro through the website of Khazanah Arsip Foto Undip (Collection of Undip Photo Archive). As a conclusion, Khazanah Arsip Foto Undip were digitalized and uploaded to the Undip website were information to the public about the achievements of the University of Diponegoro in organizing the three traditional missions of academic institutions activities, and the information to the public about the achievements of the Head of Diponegoro University policy.

When adolescents go overseas to study, they have to face the challenge of adapting to local cultures, homesickness, and dealing with the stress. This study aimed to investigate the socio-cultural adaptation, homesickness, and perceived stress among international students in relation to social sustainability in a public university in Sabah, Malaysia. This research also related how international students manage both positive and negative impacts on their social life in university. The study included all international students in that university except Bruneian and Indonesian students. The sample group comprised 100 male and 100 female students. This study used four questionnaires: (i) Perceived Stress Scale, (ii) Homesickness Scale, (iii) Socio-cultural Adaptation Scale, and (iv) Revised Sociocultural Adaptation Scale. The results indicated that the socio-cultural adaptation and perceived stress levels were significantly correlated, r (198) = 0.354, p < 0.05. The level of homesickness and perceived stress were also significantly correlated, r (198) = 0.314, p < 0.05. The outcome of this study can help overseas students lead better lives abroad, while the university can arrange relevant activities to help them better adapt to local cultures and perceive less stress. The present study underlined the importance of increasing socio-cultural adaptation and social sustainability and decreasing homesickness among international students studying at the public university in Sabah.

ABSTRACT Ellen Gleditsch (1879-1968) became Norway's first authority of radioactivity and the country's second female professor. After several years in international centers of radiochemistry, Gleditsch returned to Norway, becoming associate professor and later full professor of chemistry. Between 1916 and 1946 Gleditsch tried to establish a laboratory of radiochemistry at the University of Oslo, a career which included network building, grant applications, travels abroad, committee work, research, teaching, supervision, popularization, and war resistance work. Establishing a new field was demanding; only under her student, Alexis Pappas, was her field institutionalized at Oslo. This paper presents Gleditsch's everyday life at the Chemistry Department, with emphasis on her formation of a research and teaching laboratory of radiochemistry. Her main scientific work during this period is presented and discussed, including atomic weight determination of chlorine, age calculations in minerals, the hunt for actinium's ancestor and investigations on 40K.
