This paper presents a study in batik industry with the objective of determining any musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) among canting batik workers in Kuala Terengganu. The MSDs symptoms were identified through questionnaires modified from a Standardized Nordic Questionnaire (SNQ) and from observational techniques by using a postural analysis tool, Rapid Upper Limb Assessment (RULA) and Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA). The results of questionnaires revealed that MSDs occurred at a high rate which the highest rates of MSDs prevalence were reported in shoulders (64.5%). By assessing postural using the REBA software, the score 4 placed it in medium risk level. However, there are other factors contribute to the existence of MSD such as prolong standing, repetitive movement and poor workstation design. These parameters are not taken into account in the RULA and REBA analysis. Thus, designing an ergonomic workstation may prevent awkward postures to provide a maximum comfort to the batik workers and consequently enhance the productivity. Background: Improper posture is recognized as one of the risk factors in musculoskeletal disorders. So, operational postures assessment is required to correct undesirable postures and reduce musculoskeletal disorders. This study was conducted to specify the risk level of working postures utilizing REBA (Rapid Entire Body Assessment) and NERPA (Novel Ergonomic Postural Assessment) method and determining its relationship with the occurrence of musculoskeletal disorders in the operational occupations of Abadan Oil Refining Company. Methods: The current study was a cross-sectional and descriptive-analytical study. Using the Cochran formula, 315 of the operational employees of the Abadan Oil Refining Company were studied. Data were gathered by the methods of REBA and NERPA and analyzed using SPSS 20 and statistical tests. The statistical test of the Pearson correlation coefficient was applied to determine the correlation between the results of REBA and NERPA methods. The confidence level of 95% was taken into consideration. Results: Based on the results obtained from REBA method, the highest frequency percentage in the risk level of postural analysis was attributed to 206 subjects (65.4%) in the medium level, 88 subjects (27.9%) in the low level, and 20 subjects (6.3%) in the high level. Regarding the results obtained from NERPA method, the highest frequency percentage in the risk level of postural analysis was attributed to 158 subjects (50.2%) in the high level, 134 subjects (42.5%) in the medium level and 23 subjects (7.3%) were in the very high level. The statistical test results revealed that a statistically significant relationship was observed between the mean score of REBA and NERPA (P<0.001). Conclusion: This study's results declared that the NERPA method, by regarding the domain and angles of motion more than the REBA posture assessment, investigated the musculoskeletal health and was more worker-oriented.

Background: The automotive industry is heavily affected by sick leaves caused by the handling of loads and using postures that produce musculoskeletal disorders. Research is needed to analyse their causes and find possible solutions to eliminate or mitigate these risks. Objective: Our objective was to analyse the level of musculoskeletal risk in the different work tasks performed by truck and bus mechanics. Our intention is also to analyse whether postural training and feedback can help reduce risk. Methods: The rapid entire body assessment (REBA) was used to assess the postures performed by 35 mechanics from eight branches throughout Spain. The participants were subsequently divided randomly into two groups (experimental group and control group). The experimental group (EG) was given training and feedback on their postures and the control group (CG) was not offered any type of intervention. A few months after the initial assessment, their postural load in the usual tasks was re-evaluated. Results: An overall average REBA Score: 10.49 ± 1.33. The main risk was found in the trunk and arms with sustained above-the-head postures. EG’s second results are significantly improved compared to the first (p = 0.026 *). Conclusions: These jobs have a high-risk level of musculoskeletal disorders. The course of action presented with postural training and feedback has shown satisfactory results. Nevertheless, given the size of the sample, further research will be needed to delve deeper into this possibility as a future line of intervention.

Background: Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are the most important occupational health problems particularly in dental professionals. Dentists are among the workers who are more often susceptible to this disorder, as because their work includes risk factors that may lead to this disorder. The study aims to determine the prevalence of MSDs among dental surgeons , also the risk and exposure of this disorder by assessing job postures and the correlation between them. Methods : This cross sectional study was conducted among purposively selected 86 dental surgeons working in eight different tertiary level public and private hospitals in Dhaka city. A structured questionnaire was used for data collection, where Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire(NMQ) used which records the prevalence of MSDs in terms of musculoskeletal symptoms and to assess the risk and exposure of MSDs, Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA) score sheet, Quick Exposure Check (QEC) have been used respectively by 10- 15 minutes observing each study subject during different dental operating procedures. After data collection analysis of data was performed by using SPSS software (Version 22). Results : More than 63 % and 47 % of the participants reported pain and discomfort in at least one body region in the last 12 months and the last 7 days respectively. The major affected part was neck, followed by lower back, shoulders and hands / wrists. In different field of specialization among the study subjects musculoskeletal symptoms were highest in oral and maxillofacial surgeons followed by general practitioners, orthodontists, endodontists, prosthodontists. The exposure assessment (QEC) showed that a small percentage (22.1%) have acceptable exposure, where 30.2%, 47.7% had medium exposure and high exposure respectively. Whereas the risk assessment (REBA) showed that 59.3% of the participants were in medium risk group that necessitates further investigation and needs to implement change. Pearson’s correlation test indicated that there is a strong positive correlation between the current exposure and the risk (r = 0.832) and the relationship between exposure and risk of MSDs was found to be highly significant as p < 0.01. Highly significant association found between risk level according to REBA score and the exposure level according to QEC score with MSDs ( as p value < .01). Conclusion: This study concludes that high prevalence of MSDs and high risk levels as well as exposure levels according to REBA and QEC, suggest inappropriate and incorrect ergonomic postural habits existing among the dental surgeons which necessitates further investigation and attention on this issue to combat with this disorder among dental professionals. Introduction: Every worker is exposed to the risk of occupational accidents or occupational diseases when working. Awkward working postures are the postures that cause body parts to detach from its natural postures that can result in the complaints of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). This research intends to analyze the factors related to the complaints of MSDs suffered by the shelving staff in the library and reading room in Universitas Airlangga Surabaya. Methods: This research is observational research that applies a cross-sectional design. The sample of this research consists of 27 people chosen by the total population method. The data regarding the individual characteristics and the complaints of MSDs are obtained through interview and filling out a questionnaire that has been standardized. The data on working postures are analyzed by referring to the Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA) method, while the data on the complaints of MSDs are scrutinized by implementing the Nordic Body Map (NBM) method. Results: Reveal that most of the shelving staff experience very high-risk level of MSDs (40.7%). Other than that, it is noticed that the working postures consist of squatting (high-risk level), bowing (high-risk level), standing (moderate-risk level), standing with arms stretching (very high-risk level), and standing with arms stretching while tiptoeing (very high-risk level). The collected data is analyzed by using the Spearman correlation test. Conclusion: It can be stated that the strongest factor causing the occurrence of MSDs is the years of service (r=0.803) with a positive relationship, which means that the longer the years of service is, the higher the risk to experience MSDs is. Keywords: complaints of musculoskeletal disorders, individual factors, shelving staff

Determining the potential risks of musculoskeletal disorders through working postures in a workplace is expensive and time-consuming. A novel intelligent rapid entire body assessment (REBA) system based on convolutional pose machines (CPM), entitled the Quick Capture system, was applied to determine the risk levels. The aim of the study was to validate the feasibility and reliability of the CPM-based REBA system through a simulation experiment. The reliability was calculated from the differences of motion angles between the CPM-based REBA and a motion capture system. Results show the data collected by the Quick Capture system were consistent with those of the motion capture system; the average of root mean squared error (RMSE) was 4.77 and the average of Spearman’s rho (ρ) correlation coefficient in the different 12 postures was 0.915. For feasibility evaluation, the linear weighted Cohen’s kappa between the REBA score obtained by the Quick Capture system and those from the three experts were used. The result shows good agreement, with an average proportion agreement index (P0) of 0.952 and kappa of 0.738. The Quick Capture system does not only accurately analyze working posture, but also accurately determines risk level of musculoskeletal disorders. This study suggested that the Quick Capture system could be applied for a rapid and real-time on-site assessment.
