Designed a new type of double inlet cylindrical cyclone. For search the separation performance in a cylindrical cyclone. By use of CFD,applied the RSM turbulence model and Euler two-phase flow method and ASM which to simulate separation process and flow field within a double inlet cylindrical cyclone. Then compared with the single inlet cyclone, obtained velocity distribution. Analyzed the differences of discrete phase volume fraction between different viscosity. The results show that the new-style cyclone caught more stable fluid field and higher separation efficiency. And when the viscosity is about 0.75 kg/m•s, the separation efficiency and stability of the oil core is higher. Preliminary flow field law is shown up.

This research addresses various hydrodynamic aspects and the separation performance of a novel cross-flow filtration hydrocyclone (CFFH) using computational fluid dynamics. A CFFH is a device that combines the desirable attributes of a cross-flow filter and a vortex separator into one unit to separate oil from water. The velocity and pressure fields within the CFFH are estimated by numerically solving the filtered Navier-Stokes equations (by using a Large Eddy Simulation (LES) approach). The Lagrangian approach is employed for investigating the trajectories of dispersed droplets based on a stochastic tracking method called the Discrete Phase Model (DPM). The mixture theory with the Algebraic Slip Model (ASM) is also used to compute the dispersed phase fluid mechanics and for comparing with results obtained from the DPM. In addition, a comparison between the statistically steady state results obtained by the LES with the Wall Adaptive Local Eddy-Viscosity (WALE) subgrid scale model and the Reynolds Average Navier-Stokes (RANS) closed with the Reynolds Stress Model (RSM) is performed for evaluating their capabilities with regards to the flow field within the CFFH and the impact of the filter medium. Effects of the Reynolds number, the permeability of the porous filter, and droplet size on the internal hydrodynamics and separation performance of the CFFH are investigated. Results indicate that for low feed concentration of the dispersed phase, separation efficiency obtained based on multiphase and discrete phase simulations is almost the same. Higher Reynolds number flow simulations exhibit an unstable core and thereby numerous recirculation zones in the flow field are observed. Improved separation efficiency is observed at a lower Reynolds number and for a lower permeability of the porous filter.

Aiming at the low efficiency problem of the traditional gas-oil separator, this paper put forward a centrifugal gas-oil separator. In order to identify out the interior fluid field character of centrifugal gas-oil separator, RANS equation, RNG k-ε model and discrete phase model was applied to simulate the interior fluid field character and separation efficiency of centrifugal gas-oil separator. The simulation results showed that the flow field in the disc clearance was mainly laminar flow, and the flow field at the import and export of the disc was turbulence. Meanwhile, the velocity and pressure of the interior fluid field were equably distributed, the velocity and pressure in the disc clearance fluctuate in a tight range along vertical direction, and decrease along horizontal direction, and the particles in the disc clearance were distributed uniformly. The separation efficiency was 96.6% and the results met the design requirements.

In view of the difficulty of traditional hydrocyclones to meet the requirements of fine classification, a double-overflow three-product (internal overflow, external overflow and underflow) hydrocyclone was designed in this study. Numerical simulation and experimental research methods were used to investigate the effects of double-overflow flow field characteristics and structural parameters (i.e., internal vortex finder diameter and insertion depth) on separation performance. The research results showed that the larger the diameter of the internal vortex finder, the greater the overflow yield and the larger the cut size. The finest internal overflow product can be obtained when the internal vortex finder is 30 mm longer than the external vortex finder. The separation efficiency is highest when the internal vortex finder is 30 mm shorter than the external vortex finder.

The purpose of this paper is to study the air effects on transmission characteristics of hydro-viscous clutch and reveal the distribution law of the flow field of the oil film. The computational-fluid-dynamics (CFD) simulation model of oil film with radial oil grooves between friction pairs is taken as the study object. Considering the air effects, the pressure field, two-phase distribution, transmission torque and temperature field of the oil film are analyzed comparatively by using the CFD technology. The results show that the presence of air changes the pressure and temperature distributions of the oil film. With increase of the absolute rotational speed, the air volume fraction increases and the radius value of the air-liquid boundary decreases under condition of constant speed difference, which makes the coverage rate of the oil film on the surface of the friction disks reduce and the transmission torque of the oil film decrease. These simulation results are attributed to the study of hydro-viscous-drive and its applications. This paper also can provide a theoretical basis for the mechanism of power transmission through oil film in the presence of air effects.

Abstract In this study, numerical simulation of formation of droplet within T-shaped microchannel is investigated. Three-dimensional, transient and two-phase numerical solution for four different microchannels with different stepping positions in the flow path was performed. Various parameters such as volume fraction, Nusselt number, pressure, Reynolds number, and temperature are discussed. The results show that the location of stepped barriers in the flow path affects the process of droplet formation, its number and size in the microchannel and should be considered as an important factor in determining the fluid behavior in the microchannel. It was observed that by placing half of the step at the entrance and the other half after the entrance, the continuous phase (S3 mode) was formed in 37.5 s compared to the other modes. The droplets were also smaller in size and more in numbers. It was also observed that the maximum value for the Nusselt number was obtained for the S2 mode where the step was located just above the discrete-phase entrance. In addition, the pressure at the inlet was higher and the flow velocity increased after the step and its pressure decreased, and continued to decrease due to frictional path.

The hydrocyclone is an alternative for produced water treatment in the petroleum industries, especially at offshore fields. Many parameters, such as oil droplet diameter affect the separation performance of the hydrocyclone. In this sense, the purpose of this work is study the effect of oil droplet diameter and inlet fluid on the separation efficiency of a hydrocyclone to remove dispersed heavy-oil from a water continuous stream. Results of the streamline, pressure drop, volume fraction and efficiency of separation as a function of oil droplet diameter and feed velocity are presented and analyzed.

For any pumping artificial lift system in the petroleum industry, the free gas significantly affects the performance of the pump and the system above the pump. A model, though not a complete two-phase flow model, has been developed for the effective prediction of separation efficiency across a wide range of production conditions. The model presented is divided into two main parts, the single-phase flow-field solution and the bubble-tracking method. The first part of the model solves the single-phase liquid flow field using the computational fluid dynamics approach. Then, a simple bubble-tracking method was applied to estimate the down-hole natural separation efficiency for two-phase flow. A comparison between the results of the model and the experimental data was conducted. It shows a very good agreement with the experimental data for lower gas void fractions (bubble flow regime).

Taking into account the process and mechanism of lifting pressure were complex due to the condensation and shock wave, a one-dimensional theory model based on direct contact condensation is presented to analyze the lifting pressure character of steam-water two phase flow injector, and some key issues, such as inter-phase mass transfer computed by the average condensation heat transfer coefficient and phase volume fraction determined by steam plume, are discussed in detail. The regulations of discharge mass flow and output temperature are decoupling control according to the theory model, and the inlet water mass flow is to determine the output temperature, the variable throat section of steam nozzle is to determine the discharge mass flow.
