Hybrid metal matrix composites are being widely investigated for use in light weight, high strength applications. In the present study, Aluminium alloy Al7075 was reinforced with B4C and TiO2at 4% and 2% weight fractions respectively. The powders of the reinforcements were ball milled for uniform distribution in the Al matrix, and later fabricated by stir casting technique primarily due to simplicity and economy of the method. The specimen were prepared as per ASTM standards and later subjected to hardness, double shear, wear and impact tests and the results were compared with that of pure aluminium specimen fabricated by the same method. The hardness, shear strength, impact strength of the composite were found to be higher than pure aluminium by 4.97%, 32.28% ands 6.41% respectively.

Metal matrix composite (MMC’s) are very much familiar in the field like automobile and aerospace industries owing to their excellent wear and mechanical properties . The fundamental aim of this paper is to augment cognizance amongst the researchers and to attract their consideration towards the present approach to treat with the cryogenic usage for the nonferrous metals. In this writing it is endeavor to deliver the examination findings of character of cryogenic usage on Wear Properties of Al356-ZrSiO4 Particulate Reinforced metal matrix Composites adapted by Stir Casting technique. The amount of reinforcement is changed from 0 to 12wt% in track of 3 %. The ready composites are exposed to wear testing as per ASTM standards using pin on disc machine .The hardness of the composites was found to augment with augment in reinforcement in the composite. The inference obtained discloses that as reinforcement content in the composites increment and execution of cryogenic usage to composite amended the wear resistance.

This research work reports on the investigation on the suitability of prepared Al-Mg binary alloys of hypo-eutectic and eutectic compositions, for making metal matrix composites for light weight applications. Commercial pure aluminium, and magnesium blocks were used for the purpose of making binary alloys of Al-Mg, with the Mg in weight percentages 15%, 20%, 25%, 30%, and 37%. composition prepared by stir-casting under Argon cover gas. The cast Al-Mg alloys were cut to standard specimens to investigate its microstructure and mechanical properties. Test results revealed that the Vicker’s Hardness Number (VHN) of the alloys increases with the increased weight percentage of Mg and Ultimate Tensile Strength (UTS) were also increasing with increasing Mg content. The SEM images revealed the presence of micro-voids in alloys of higher Mg contents. The test values indicates the suitability of hypo-eutectic alloys as candidates for metal matrix composites for light weight applications.

In this research stir casting technique is used to produce (ZA-27)alloy hybrid composites reinforced by nano particles (BN and Si3N4) with various weight percentage. The wear test were used pin on disk for both (ZA-27) alloy and all composites. The results indicate that the value of hardness increased with increasing the additives of nano (BN and Si3N4) percentage for ZA-27 hybrid metal matrix composites. It was found that the nano particles play an important role in improving the wear properties of alloys. Since nano particles impede dislocations movement, causing enhancement in the mechanical properties.

Composite materials like Aluminium metal matrix composite is playing a very important role in manufacturing industries e.g. automobile and aerospace industries, due to their superior properties such as light weight, low density, high specific modulus, high fatigue strength etc., In this study Aluminium(Al 6061) is reinforced with Silicon Carbide particles and fabricated by Stir Casting Technique (vortex method). The MMC rectangular bars (samples) are prepared with Al6061 and SiC (28 µ size) as the reinforced particles by weight fraction from 0%, 5%, 10%, and 15% of SiC. The microstructure analysis and Mechanical properties like Tensile Strength, Vickers Hardness and Charpy Impact Strength were investigated on prepared specimens. It is observed that the properties are increased with increasing of reinforced specimens by weight fraction.

Nano technology has fascinated the attention of numerous material scientists and design engineers. The nano scaled particulates incorporation exhibit many attractive and special properties. The inclusion of nano particulates into the copper matrix might augments the hardness, ultimate tensile strength and yield strength significantly increases, maintaining the ductility. In this paper, the nano Al2O3 reinforced copper - 5%tin- metal matrix composites were manufactured by stir casting technique and reinforcement is varied from 0wt. % to 9wt. % in ventures of 3wt. %. The nano composites are characterized in terms of their mechanical and wear properties. Results revealed that, the distribution of nano Al2O3 particulates is fairly uniform in copper - 5%tin metal matrix. As the level of reinforcement increases, hardness, yield strength, ultimate tensile strength, and wear resistance of the copper - 5%tin – nano Al2O3 metal matrix composites increases. The developed nano metal matrix composites may be an alternative material for bearing applications

Tensile and wear properties of aluminium (Al) based metal matrix composites (MMCs) was prepared by added titanium diboride (TiB2) with in-situ technique by salt route. The salts used in this research were potassium hexafluorotitanate (K2TiF6) and potassium tetrafluoroborate (KBF4). Nanocomposite samples were prepared by casting technique associated with incorporating 3 and 6 wt.% of TiB2 into matrix of Al-6wt.%Cu. Instron and wear tests machine were used to characterize the tensile and wear Al-Cu alloys properties. Results showed that increase in TiB2 content gave the high properties of tensile and wear behavior. The study indicates that TiB2 particles have giving improvement the wear performance of the Al–6wt.%Cu alloy. For a constant load and sliding speed, the wear rate decreases as a function of amount of TiB2 in the composite. The wear rate decrease with increasing in wt.% TiB2 particles for the all loads applied. However, addition of TiB2 particle to the Al–6 wt%.Cu matrix has show the coefficient value of wear decreases regardless of applied load. Study of the wear surfaces both alloy and composites by optical microscope suggests that the improvement in wear resistance is mainly due to the formation of finer groove or debris by content of TiB2.

This study was conducted to investigate the synthesis, characterization and mechanical properties of aluminium reinforced with ferrotitanium and silicon carbide via stir casting technique. Microstructures of as-cast samples were analysed using optical and scanning electron microscopes equipped with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. The mechanical properties in terms of hardness, tensile, tribological behaviour and fracture were assessed. Results showed that the homogeneous dispersion of reinforcement was within the metal matrix composite. Tribological study revealed a decrease in frictional coefficient of the composites with lowest frictional coefficient observed in composite with addition of silicon carbide as reinforcement. Morphology of fractured surface displayed a reduction in the size of dimples formed in reinforced aluminium composites when compared with larger dimple sizes observed in as-cast aluminium alloy.
