More books on mixed methods research have been published recently. One notable contribution to this growing body of work is Bergman’s 2008 Advances in Mixed Methods Research: Theories and Applications. This edited work features contributions by different researchers and addresses a myriad of issues ranging from the need to re-conceptualize the paradigmatic differences between qualitative and quantitative approaches to methodological issues and challenges. This book should prove useful to researchers and graduate students interested in mixed methods designs.

Candi Tebing is one of the architectural object, that can be reviewed and researched by design principal of its architecture is with doing reseach how to calculate its proportion. Candi Tebing Gunung Kawi as one of the architecture temple relic in Pakerisan watershed can be used as an architectural reseacrh object with review how yo calculate the proportion of ten candi that we can find at that area. The purpose of the research is to analyze its element and proportion calculation of the Candi Tebing Gunung Kawi design. The research design using mixed methods between qualitative and quantitative approaches, and also used field research method.Proportion forming elements of Candi Tebing Gunung Kawi generally can be divided into three main parts; pedestal, body, and head. Each proportion forming elements detail on pedestal, body and crown, consist of a lower framed, body and upper framed. The result on the proportion calculation showed the proportion of temple’s height twice the width of the pedestals (Lk) or it could be twice of the crown width (the scene). Manasara-silpasastra theory explained the proportion between width and height calculation can be divided into five parts, those are; santika, paushtika, parshnika / jayada, adbhuta, and sarvakamika (Acharya, 1927:41). The conclusion based on that theory,  Candi Tebing Gunung Kawi proportion between width and height classified into paushtika. Keywords: candi tebing, forming elements, proportion

Warung is a substitute for the traditional markets for the people of South Kalimantan. The warungs were usually located in the middle of the neighborhood. Several previous studies indicate that the number and income of warungs have continued to decline since the entry of modern retails in South Kalimantan. The objectives of this study were to analyze the impact of modern retails towards warungs and analyze the implementation of the modern retail regulations in South Kalimantan. The method used is mixed methods with qualitative and quantitative approaches. The study findings suggest that modern retailers have tendencies to cause a decline in income to the point of bankruptcy of warungs. Some regulations specifically regulate the existence of franchised minimarkets but do not regulate the warungs specifically. Therefore, there is an urgency to review permits regulations and rules of modern retail locations, local government intervention to improve competitiveness, and facilitation of capital assistance.

There is a germane relationship between qualitative and quantitative approaches to social science research. The relationship is empirically and theoretically demonstrated by poverty researchers. The study of poverty, as argued in this article, is a study of both numbers and contextualities. This article provides a general overview of qualitative and quantitative approaches to poverty studies and argues that only a combination of the two approaches, where necessary, would provide a robust, rich and reliable data for researching issues of poverty. Hence, the contemporary drive towards a mixed methods approach in poverty research is not only welcomed but certainly timely as well. Thus, understanding ontological and epistemological paradigms about social sciences is imperative in dousing such tensions.

This paper introduces a framework for conducting and disseminating mixed methods research on positive outlier countries that successfully improved their health outcomes and systems. We provide guidance on identifying exemplar countries, assembling multidisciplinary teams, collecting and synthesising pre-existing evidence, undertaking qualitative and quantitative analyses, and preparing dissemination products for various target audiences. Through a range of ongoing research studies, we illustrate application of each step of the framework while highlighting key considerations and lessons learnt. We hope uptake of this comprehensive framework by diverse stakeholders will increase the availability and utilisation of rigorous and comparable insights from global health success stories.

Mixed methods reviews offer an excellent approach to synthesizing qualitative and quantitative evidence to generate more robust implications for practice, research, and policymaking. There are limited guidance and practical examples concerning the methods for adequately synthesizing qualitative and quantitative research findings in mixed reviews. This paper aims to illustrate the application and use of joint displays for qualitative and quantitative synthesis in mixed methods reviews. We used joint displays to synthesize and integrate qualitative and quantitative research findings in a segregated mixed methods review about male nursing students' challenges and experiences. In total, 36 qualitative, six quantitative, and one mixed-methods study was appraised and synthesized in the review. First, the qualitative and quantitative findings were analyzed and synthesized separately. The synthesized findings were integrated through tabular and visual joint displays at two levels of integration. At the first level, a statistics theme display was developed to compare the synthesized qualitative and quantitative findings and the number of studies from which the findings were generated. At the second level, the synthesized qualitative and quantitative findings supported by each other were integrated to identify confirmed, discordant, and expanded inferences using generalizing theme display. The use of two displays allowed in a robust and comprehensive synthesis of studies. Joint displays could serve as an excellent method for rigorous and transparent synthesis of qualitative and quantitative findings and the generation of adequate and relevant inferences in mixed methods reviews.
