Proficiency in English politeness is an invaluable tool in maintaining effective communication. Differences in beliefs, culture and customs, values and norms exist between English and other languages. Non-native English speakers encounter difficulties when making apologies and greetings in the language. The research examined politeness of English and Tshivenda apologies and greetings. The research paper adopted a qualitative research approach designed to build a holistic narrative description concerning social or cultural phenomenon. Formal and informal interviews were carried out ethnographically to collect data from selected 15 historical experts at Phawe, Zoutpansberg in Limpopo Province, South Africa. Data were quantified, simplified, organised, and interpreted using an 'emic' approach because they were interpreted from the perspective of the population under study. The research found that some Vhavenda people could narrate stories around politeness in their society. The research recommends the continuous practice of apologies and greetings to preserve the Vhavenda culture and custom.

Collocations are one of the problems faced by EFL (English as a Foreign Language) learners when learning English language. This study is intended to help the EFL Learners and non-native English speakers to add knowledge about collocations. Therefore, this study is aimed to find the use of lexical collocations and their meaning. This study used a descriptive qualitative research technique. The source of the data is eleven articles from eight sections in seventeen.com. om the research, there were 79 lexical collocations and they were classified as six out of seven types that Benson et al. (2010) proposed. The data showed that the most used type is L3 (adjective + noun) and the least used is L4 (noun + verb). The meaning of the lexical collocations was defined from the contexts.

Budget planning is a challenge regarding the delivery of cost-effective health services in public hospitals. Budget planning is part of broader planning process in the organisations. The purpose of this article is to analyse budget planning in public hospitals in the Limpopo Province of South Africa. The research approach used for the study is quantitative research design. The sample size of 20 public hospitals was drawn from the population of 40 public hospitals. A survey questionnaire was used as the primary data-gathering instrument. The findings of the research show that budget planning is a management challenge for non-finance managers in public hospitals. The result for this is ineffective budget management in public hospitals. The study recommended that non-finance managers be capacitated on the alignment of budget with a strategy to improve budget management in public hospitals.

Purpose This study aims to investigate records management in selected government schools in South Africa. Design/methodology/approach The study adopted a qualitative research approach to collect in-depth data from the principals or administrators working as records managers at the school level. In all, a sample of principals and administrators from seven schools were interviewed face-to-face to enable the researcher to visit the schools in person. Findings The findings indicate that although the principals or administrators make concerted efforts to manage school records, there is no uniform system in place for this purpose. This results in haphazard record keeping and records management at the schools. The study recommends that the Department of Basic Education in Limpopo develop a file plan or model for schools to use to manage records uniformly in a standardised manner that would support accountability, transparency and good governance. Research limitations/implications The study was limited to seven primary schools in Lebopo Circuit, Limpopo province and secondary schools were excluded. Practical implications The author obtained a thorough understanding and direct insight into how principals or administrators manage school records. This study makes recommendations for the effective management of records in government schools. Originality/value This is one of the few research papers on records management in government schools in South Africa.

Orientation: Spousal support is a crucial area to explore, particularly due to the increased prevalence of dual-career couples in South Africa and the dynamics facing them.Research purpose: The main objective of this study was to explore Indian wives’ perceptions regarding the support they receive from their husbands and the impact that such support has on their career progression.Motivation for the study: The limited qualitative research available globally on the subject and the dearth of research that focuses on Indian professional females in the South African context motivated the study.Research design, approach and method: A qualitative research approach was followed, and the data were collected through in-depth, life-story interviews. Purposeful and snowball sampling methods yielded a sample of nine Indian female managers who were in dual-career marriages.Main findings: Spouses are essential sources of support for Indian professional women. The findings revealed that there are various marital and socio-cultural dynamics that impact on the spousal support received by these women, which ultimately influences their career advancement.Practical/managerial implications: The findings provided valuable information regarding the marital challenges that Indian women face in their career progression. The awareness of such dynamics can assist management in devising strategies to accommodate and retain the unique talent that Indian women have to offer.Contribution/value-add: The study contributes to the evolving body of knowledge on dual-career couples by focusing on an under-researched, but essential aspect of the dual-career arrangement.

Recent studies conducted around the world have revealed a clear link between the instructional position of principal leadership and school improvement. Instructional leadership, which aims to foster a teaching and learning community, is seen as a key component of successful teaching and long-term school improvement. The rise in site-specific management roles, which are based on instructional leadership experiences, is one of the initiatives launched by the South African government to reform education. In South Africa, school principals are responsible for academic development. This qualitative research aimed to learn more about the role of principals in sustaining school improvement in the North West Province of South Africa. Premised in the qualitative research approach, a purposive sampling technique was used to select six schools that had sustained school improvement for some years. Findings from the study revealed that principals play a crucial role in sustaining school improvement. The study findings reinforce recent literature that identifies instructional leadership as a cornerstone for school improvement.

This paper strives to make a case for the use of Northern Sotho as an indigenous official language in the post-apartheid South Africa. It contends that though Northern Sotho is constitutionally accorded the status of an official language in the new South Africa, it is marginalised in its practical everyday use as other languages still dominate it. The paper utilised Capricorn District Municipality in Limpopo Province as a case study that is grounded on the Qualitative research approach. It is, furthermore, underpinned by Ethnolinguistic Vitality and Afrocentric theoretical assumptions. Sampled data was collected by interviewing 24 Northern Sotho participants in the Municipality and was thematically analysed through the transcription of those interviews. The findings revealed that Northern Sotho does not enjoy the status that the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa (1996) has granted it. It recommends that this constitutional travesty be rectified by implementing the existing Language Policies as it erodes the identity of the marginalised speakers of the language.

This study reviews research around sharia Value Added/Value Added (VA) accounting. This study uses descriptive qualitative analysis based on 100 samples of publication of selected journal articles related to VA, both national and international journals. The published samples of journal articles were published for the last 25 years from 1994 to 2018. The results show that value-added accounting research is still dominated by the theme of discussion (issues) about Value Added Statement/Reporting (54%), followed by discussion issues regarding Value Added (22%), then issues of institutional discussion (15%) and about management (9%). Indonesia, United States, United Kingdom and South Africa are the most studied areas, while the largest publication areas are Indonesia, United States, United Kingdom and India. Furthermore, comparative quantitative research and mixed methods are still less than the qualitative research approach. In addition, VA development periodization shows that each year it continues to grow from the initial sharia Value Added statement (SVAS) model, SVAS reconstruction, SVAS critical analysis, analysis of SVAS implementation, to improvement of the SVAS model.

El presente artículo describe una investigación cualitativa enfocada en analizar la mejoría de la habilidad de hablar en inglés por parte de los alumnos de la universidad de Quintana Rool. La metodología se enfocó a través de prácticas situacionales con hablantes nativos del inglés y al diseño actividades orientadas a la realización de conversaciones entre grupos pequeños. Para la recolección de los datos, se empleó el uso de foros, y un cuestionario con preguntas abiertas. Los resultados reportan mejorías en los alumnos respecto al control de limitaciones psicológicas como la timidez, miedo a cometer errores, hablar con nativos, entre otras. De igual forma, se identificó mejoría en el aspecto lingüístico al fomentar el uso y práctica de estructuras gramaticales. Abstract This article describes a qualitative research focused on analyzing the improvement of English speaking skills of students at the University of Quintana Rool. The methodology was focused through situational practices with native English speakers and the design of activities oriented to small group conversations. For data collection, the use of forums and a questionnaire with open-ended questions was used. The results report improvements in the students' control of psychological limitations such as shyness, fear of making mistakes, speaking with native speakers, among others. Likewise, improvement was identified in the linguistic aspect by encouraging the use and practice of grammatical structures.

The concept of world Englishes refers to English as a global language that means communication in numerous dialects and the movement towards an international standard for English. Varieties of English are used in various sociolinguistic contexts in different parts of the world, also in Indonesia. Since English plays as a foreign language, sometimes Indonesians still use their dialect. This study was mainly purposed to describe Madurese dialect in the English conversation made by Bata-Bata English Centre (BBEC). Mainly, this research is aimed to (1) Describe the patterns of Madurese dialect in English conversation by the members of the Bata-Bata English Centre (BBEC). (2) Know the factors that affect the pattern of Madurese dialect in the English conversation by the Bata-Bata English Centre (BBEC). This research belongs to qualitative research which investigates the group of BBEC about Madurese dialect in their English conversation. The researcher observed the students' learning process, interviewed them and took notes, recordings, and pictures. The study results were that the researcher found the patterns of Madurese dialect occur in the English conversation in three features: pronunciation which caused sound changing, a grammatical pattern that caused incorrect grammar; and inappropriate vocabulary. Second, the researcher found that three factors affected how their dialect in the English conversation. The first is lack of speech, Madurese language influences second, and the last factor is never listening to native English speakers. Madurese language that plays as their mother tongue influences their dialect in the English conversation
