This article is concerned with research on the sociolinguistic reality in Algeria, by studying one of its issues, which is the issue of the arabization of education. And if the linguistic policy is affected and influenced by social life, then planning in arabization has a relationship with social reality. Therefore, our research aimed at studying the relationship between the applied arabization policy and the linguistic requirements of social reality. The most important results reached were the inconsistency of the applied arabization policy with the linguistic base established by the colonial authority , which continued after independence, and led to the emergence of fundamental problems, resulting from the total arabization of the basic and secondary training and some specializations in higher education. So that students in arabized disciplines largely lost control over the foreign language, which is a prerequisite for contemporary changes and for national needs that require control over bilingualism. As for those enrolled in specializations that depend on the French language, they found difficulty with the language of formation, because their basic formation was in the Arabic language.

In this study, the relationship between fluid and crystallised intelligence and vocabulary size was investigated among Iranian students learning French as a foreign language. Studies emphasised on the importance of vocabulary size and language comprehension and tried to discover mental and intelligence factors related to this issue. To administer the present quantitative study, the Persian Adaptation of Baddeley’s (1968) Grammatical reasoning Test for Fluid Intelligence, Persian Test of Baghaei & Tabatabaee (2015) for Crystallised intelligence, and Nation’s (2012) Test of Vocabulary Size were instrumented. Population of the study was 100 intermediate learners of French language from three branches of Safir institute in Tehran. Data was analysed using SPSS and correlational tools to specify the variables correlation. Result showed that there is a significant relationship between crystallised intelligence and size of vocabulary (p<0.1), while there was no significant relationship between fluid intelligence and vocabulary size (p>0.5). It was concluded that fluid intelligence does not predict learners’ vocabulary size, but crystallised intelligence as grows gradually determines learners’ vocabulary size.

AbstractFrench language teaching (FLT) started in Malaysian boarding schools in the 1970s due to the initiative of a few Malaysian teachers who had acquired some knowledge during colonial times. It was formally implemented by the Malaysian Ministry of Education (MOE) in 1984 and in the 2000s, FLT developed greatly in parallel with the internationalisation of higher education. The country had no former expertise in teaching French on a larger scale and future teachers had to be sent abroad to be trained in French. Thirty years later, this language has not only become part of the linguistic scenery in Malaysian boarding schools, as the MOE has also extended the teaching of French to normal day schools. This article will review the language planning regarding French language teaching in Malaysia as an example of foreign language planning in the country, and will focus on its implementation in the Malaysian secondary schools from the 1970s to 2014. Issues of teaching hours and textbooks will not be dealt with, as these matters are left to the circumspection of the respective schools.

Although different forms of English-medium instruction (EMI) are being recognised, the different ways in which EMI can impact the pedagogical activities and expertise of higher education educators have received less attention. Using face-to-face and written interviews with nine teacher educators at a Finnish university, this study examines the most important aspects teacher educators perceive in their work through EMI and how these aspects connect to the understanding of their professional identity. The study is theoretically premised on the interconnected concepts of pedagogical doing, pedagogical being, pedagogical relating, and pedagogical language awareness. The thematically analysed data highlighted the ways in which pedagogical being, doing, and relating revolve around the presence and role of the foreign language in EMI, as well as the concurrent disjunctures and opportunities EMI creates. Pedagogical being informed EMI teacher educators’ orientation to their work and the different ways language impinges on the sense of self as the teacher educators share how they try to understand and respond to the disjunctures of EMI. In terms of pedagogical doing, EMI impinges on how teacher educators enact their practice and the relationships developed with students. However, the focus of pedagogical relating addresses the relationship between the EMI teacher educators and their workplace. The findings from this study will hopefully contribute to the development of EMI teacher preparation and support critical discussions on the ‘Englishisation’ of higher education.

<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent:0in">Learning a foreign language cannot be separated from literature and culture. One of the definitions of literature is a reflection of society; so through literature we can know the real image of society as well as the culture. Moreover, by knowing the foreign cultures of the countries from which we learn the language, we can not only read, but also understand the problems that appear in the texts studied. Similarly, French culture cannot be separated from Maghreb culture. The two cultures complement each other, later becoming the content of various literary, French literary and Francophone literary. The relationship between the two cultures is also part of the content of Virginie Despentes' novel <i>Apocalypse bébé</i>. Through this novel, we can see an image of the relationship between France and the Maghreb people in their social life. Thus, as a learner of French, we could know not only French culture through the textbooks published by French publishers, but also recognize the French culture associated with France both directly and indirectly. Therefore, the literary text entitled <i>Apocalypse bébé</i> can be an alternative source of learning French, not only in terms of language attached to vocabulary and grammar, but also to know French and Francophone culture so that students know the relationship for understanding and analyzing literary works.</p>

Introduction. The existence of demotivating phenomena in the process of learning Arabic is very much felt by the instructor at this time, it can be seen from the low of the final result of students. Data Collection Method. Using a study literature approach Analysis Data. Using a descriptive analysis Results and Discussions. There is a positive correlation to the role of motivation in language learning. This is evidenced by several studies that say that motivation can improve the results of student learning achievement. In the research conducted by Nik Mohd Rahimi Nik Yusoff, Zamri Mahamod, Kamarulzaman AB. Ghani, found that the relationship between motivation towards proficiency in hearing Arabic and achieving proficiency in hearing Arabic (r = 0.613). This shows that the achievement of students in the ability to hear Arabic is somewhat influenced by students' motivation towards the ability to hear Arabic. The development of Islamic education demands a change in the teaching system that leads to the availability of a constructivist-oriented learning model in constructing Fiqh knowledge more logically and rationally through analyzing the context of people's life. This study aims to develop a Direct-Contextual Learning (DCL) model by integrating the characteristics of direct instruction and contextual learning and improving the learning outcomes of comparative Fiqh in higher education. This type of research included the type of research development (R&D) with a systematic approach using the Dick and Carey model. The participants involved in this study were 100 first-level undergraduate degrees at Gontor Islamic University who were selected using the purposive sampling technique. The data collection techniques used include questionnaires, literature reviews, and test learning outcomes. This study's results were the DCL model, and the DCL teaching plan that was developed led to better Fiqh learning outcomes. The DCL phases developed to consist of an introduction, presentation, context exploration, confirmation, and closing. This study provides a new learning model at Modern Islamic University that can be used by lecturers to impart student fiqh knowledge without leaving the lecturer's role in facilitating students through critical analysis of the relationship between Fiqh and the context of social life.

This study is related to the Volubilis project "Moroccan and European students: a comparative approach”, which aims to identify the challenges and expectations of Moroccan students.The education system knows a big diversity In Morocco; primary and secondary schools are based on Arabic language, private system is based on international language like: French, English or Spanish, but a majority of private school use French language. However, Moroccan postsecondary studies are based on French language, a passage from Arabic language to French language between secondary school and higher education could be a barrier to learning in higher education.The purpose of this research is to provide data about how the students University Hassan II of Casablanca use languages in their learning, and the impact of French language in higher education.350 students participated in the survey. Their average age is 22 years and they have no physical or mental disability.Our results indicate that the majority of students surveyed face a lot of problems in learning and using French language. To answer the survey, a majority of students reported using both languages (French and Arabic) showing that university students don’t have a good level in both Arabic and French languages.

Education is the most important thing in a person’s life. Formal education is the learning process held by a particular educational institution, starting from the elementary, secondary, and higher education. To produce well-qualified college graduates, good teaching and learning process is needed. Determination of learning achievement in Higher Education is in the form of score of test results and observation conducted by the lecturer. The competence of college graduates cannot be seen only from the GPA and study duration, but also the ability of foreign language such as English. This study aims to determine the relationship between student achievement and English proficiency with study duration. Sampling techniques is done randomly. Statistical analysis used for this study was Pearson correlation analysis and testing the hypothesis by using Z-test. The result of the analysis indicates that there is a significant relationship statistically between student achievement and graduates’ study duration of Merdeka University Pasuruan that is the correlation coefficient obtained was –0.515. It means that the better (higher) of students’ achievement the faster the length of study will be, and the lower the students’ achievement then the longer the duration of the study period will be. For the relationship between the students’ abilities of foreign language with the duration of study, obtained correlation coefficient of 0.102, but the relationship formed insignificant statistically.

The use of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) in Saudi Arabia does not appear to continue in the coming years on account of its strong commitment towards the 2030 vision that aims to reformulate and restructure the foundations of the social and economic fabric of the Saudi society. The Arabic language holds its significance in the society due to being a religious language. The current review has analyzed the paradigm shifts from EFL to ESL in higher education in The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and predicted the future of English in Saudi Arabia. The major challenge that policymakers may encounter would be how to localize education of English language to meet the Saudi norms and standards of learning while at the same time modernize and internationalize the higher education through western theoretical knowledge and the English language. Suggestions regarding these aspects may direct individuals involved in language planning in Saudi Arabia.

The article deals with examples of symbolic, virtual artifacts as part of the social reality of the modern world. The author analyzes the influence of symbolic reality on a person, the transformation of forms of perception, reflection of the world. The symbolic world, the world of simulacra is considered as an instrument of influence on various spheres of society. Examples of symbolic structures involved in various forms of social life, the involvement of symbolic forms of reflection of the world in the mechanisms of perception, decision-making are given. We consider the relationship between the conditionally real and conditional virtual worlds, their interweaving, reciprocity. The article shows the relationship between the symbol and the simulacrum as a more modern and more complex form that characterizes the state of current social reality, various phenomena of post-modern types of societies, and their historical variability. The ethical aspects of the expansion of symbolic human spaces, the reasons for their appearance and development, and the consequences of their existence for human civilization are considered.
