The given article considers the relevance of the English language and the level of its functioning as an academic lingua franca in Kazakhstani periodicals. Authors particularly dwell on English language articles published in scientific and methodical journal Eurasian Journal of Philology: Science and Education recommended by the Committee for Control of Education and Science of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan (CCES MES RK) in the period from 2010 to 2019 years. Due to the quantitative method, the high tendency of publishing English language articles has been identified in the journal Eurasian Journal of Philology: Science and Education. As a result it is evident that in the academic setting English is sharply becoming the lingua franca as a means of exchanging scientific data and fixing the main results of research. The largest number of English-language articles were presented in the section of Linguistics. However, the statistical data enables us to assume the progressive use of English as an academic lingua franca in all areas of philological sciences.

<p><em>English language proficient has currently becoming a necessary requirement in various fields of study and professions. However, most students refuse to speak in English because they are too concerned in making mistakes, lack of motivation, and low self-confidence. In learning English, attitude and motivation are very closely related. A learner with positive attitude towards learning a language has a high tendency of motivation towards it. Therefore, the main objective of the research was to investigate the correlation between the items of attitude and motivation in spoken English among semester 4 students at Politeknik Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin (PSMZA). The methodology used was quantitative method. This study was carried out using a questionnaire consisted of 70 items adapted from Gardner’s Attitude/Motivation Test Battery (AMTB) and was distributed to 100 semester 4 students from four departments of PSMZA. The data was analyzed using SPSS. Cohen’s standard was used to evaluate the correlation coefficient, where items with 0.50 or larger were highlighted which represented a strong association. Findings had shown these students’ attitude and motivation towards spoken English had strong correlation with some of the items that helped to boost their motivation in spoken English. These findings indicated the importance of different strategies to be implemented by the English language educators to enhance students’ motivation in communicative English subjects.</em></p>

In 2018, the Language Comission of the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud) of the Republic of Indonesia has made verification towards all the languages that exists in Indonesia. The verification conducted from 1991 to 2017 resulted in 652 languages to be found. That number still does not include the dialects and their sub-divisions of the 652 languages. Meanwhile, UNESCO recorded 143 languages based on their vitality status. Identity can be interpreted as similarity or unity with others in a certain area or other things (Rummens, 1993: 157-159). "The identity possessed by an individual can be in the form of personal identity and social identity" (Santoso, 2006: 44-45). Using statistical data on language issued by the Indonesian Central Bureau of Statistics as a corpus and literature study by tracing the title of mainstream online media coverage related to the use of code mixing, identity theory, and the concept of intercultural communication, this paper discusses the relationship between the use of code mixing in the Indonesian people's everyday life with the nation‟s identity as a country that is bhineka (mentioned as its official national motto) or diversed. Instead of being not nationalist, the practice of code mixing by the Indonesian people is actually a manifestation of the identity of the Indonesian people as a diverse society. The code mix that occurs in the daily life of the community is proof that Indonesian people can understand each other and communicate well in a very complex diversity.

The current research aims at identifying the impact of teacher behavior on teacher-learner interaction in English language at the basic instruction level. The population consists of all male pupils in basic stage instruction within Kurdistan Region-Duhok city-Directorate of education, during the academic year (2013-2014). The sample for the study has been randomly chosen from the basic instruction – level 8. It consists of (32) pupils, sixteen forming the experimental group which has been taught by using Flanders Decimal System of behavior teacher-learner interaction (it has been prepared by the researcher depending on the source and other previous studies and researches so as to test the hypotheses of the current study. It has also been made valid through its presentation to a panel of experts, while the reliability factor has been computed by using the re-test method. On the other hand, sixteen pupils formed the control group which has been taught by using the Recommended Method by the Ministry of Education (henceforth RM). The t-test has been used for the equivalence of groups. Moreover, the researcher has used the tape recorder to access to the patterns of verbal interaction inside the classroom. The achievement test is the research tool for gaining the results of the experiment after being made valid and reliable. The findings show that teachers of English can make use of the given time in the class more successfully if they focus on encouraging learners (pupils) and accepting their ideas. Additionally, there is a limited influence of the variable related to the period of teaching service and place of graduation on the patterns of interaction inside the classroom as it has affected the percentage of the teacher's instant questions. Thus, it showed teacher of English is the most effective strategy in teacher-learner interaction. The research ends with some recommendations and suggestions depending on the findings of the study

The objective of contemporary education is to enhance the competiveness of graduates not only in the local market but also at the European Union scale; therefore, stronger co-operation with foreign education and research institutions can significantly improve the knowledge and skills of Latvian students, which can gradually contribute to Latvia’s competitiveness in high value added activities within global value chains. This, of course, underlines the increasing importance of foreign language skills. In fact, knowledge of the English language in today’s labour market is taken for granted, and the competiveness of those employees, who can speak at least three foreign languages, including one of the Scandinavian languages, is increasing. The aim of the research was to identify Latvian students’ learning experience in European countries in scope of short study mobility programmes. Based on the secondary information sources such as statistical data aggregated by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Latvia and Flash Eurobarometer Report No466, the authors have analysed Latvian students’ mobility destinations and intentions of studies abroad. The research findings suggest that currently there is a contradiction between students’ personal intentions and their real behaviour. The countries that are currently most often chosen as study mobility destinations rather offer valuable cultural experience than practical skills that could be useful in academic and professional work.

<span lang="EN-US">This study attempts to examine to what extent the concepts of Intercultural Communicative Competence and English as a Lingua Franca are theoretically and practically formulated in some of the most recently implemented European and Portuguese English language teaching documents and, if so, how they are framed to be put into practice in the English language classroom. Overall, the documents analyzed—the <em>Common European Framework of Reference for Languages</em> (2001), the <em>CEFR Companion Volume with New Descriptors </em>(2018), both published by the Council of Europe, and the <em>Essential Learnings</em> (2018), introduced by the Portuguese Ministry of Education—display traditional approaches to the development of intercultural (communicative) competence in the English language classroom failing to truly and consistently represent the current role of English as an international lingua franca.</span>

Its relevance is related to the need to develop measures to accelerate the process of digital transformation of science and education of the Republic of Belarus.Materials and methods. Information base of the research was made by publications of scientists and specialists on the issues under study, normative documents, final documents of conferences on this topic, data from the Open Data in Belarus portal, national and international aggregators of institutional repositories, open scientific data repositories.Results. The analysis of the state and prospects of introducing the principles of open access to scientific publications and scientific data into the sphere of science and education of Belarus was carried out during the research. It is shown that the digital transformation of science and education is at an early stage. The dissemination of the principles of open science and the introduction of new instruments of scientific communication in the Belarusian academic and university science are uneven, there is a need to develop a strategy in this direction. The principle of open access to publications is being most actively introduced into practice through the development of a network of university repositories. In Belarus, the open data infrastructure is at the very beginning of its formation. In this regard, there is a need to conduct additional research to identify problems associated with the discovery of scientific data. One step in the transition to open science is the unification of all the repositories on a single platform of the national aggregator. The review of national and international aggregators of institutional repositories is presented. The questions on creation of the national system-aggregator of information resources of open access in the Republic of Belarus in the context of the formation of the Republican information and educational environment are considered: the purpose of the system, the platform used, technical solutions for organizing the integration of information systems of higher education institutions and the rules of interaction of system users.Conclusions. The creation of a national system-aggregator will not only provide a single point of access to the institutional repositories of project participants, which will significantly improve the convenience and completeness of the search, but will also solve one of the most important tasks of the project - popularizing the idea of open access to scientific publications. The implementation of the proposed measures to create conditions for the discovery of scientific data in Belarus will contribute to the introduction of the principle of open access to scientific data. The considered approaches will allow accelerating the process of digital transformation of the scientific and educational sphere of Belarus.

The Common European Framework of Reference for Language (CEFR) has become the standard used to describe and evaluate students’ command of a second or foreign language. It is an internationally acknowledged standard language proficiency framework which many countries have adopted such as China, Thailand, Japan and Taiwan. Malaysia Ministry of Education is aware and realise the need for the current English language curriculum to be validated as to reach the international standard as prescribed by the CEFR. The implementation of CEFR has begun at primary and secondary level since 2017 and now higher education institutions are urged to align their English Language Curriculum to CEFR as part of preparation in receiving students who have been taught using CEFR-aligned curriculum at schools by year 2022. This critical reflection article elucidates the meticulous processes that we have embarked on in re-aligning our English Language Curriculum to the standard and requirements of CEFR. The paper concludes with a remark that the alignment of the English curriculum at the university needs full support from the management in ensuring that all the stakeholders are fully prepared, informed and familiar with the framework.
