Hypertension is a disease that often occurs in the elderly and will have an impact on the quality and quantity of life of the elderly, so it needs early treatment. SEFT therapy and taichong point acupressure are complementary therapies that can lower blood pressure in the elderly. The design in this research is descriptive statistics. The sample was taken by purposive sampling and obtained 30 respondents who were divided into 15 respondents each in the SEFT group and the taichong point acupressure group. Data were collected using observation sheets and analyzed univariately. The results of the research in the SEFT group showed that the pre-test systolic blood pressure was 164.00, the diastole was 94.67 and the post-test systolic blood pressure was 149.67, the diastole was 90.00. Whereas in the taichong point acupressure group, the pre-test systolic blood pressure was 153.33, the diastole was 93.33 and the systolic blood pressure post-test was 142.67, the diastole was 88.67. SEFT therapy and taichong point acupressure can be an alternative in reducing blood pressure in the elderly.

Hypertension in the elderly is often not realized (silent disease), this is due to the result of reduced muscle flexibility of the blood vessels which will cause thickening of the arteries and even stiffening, causing the arteries and aorta to lose their adaptive capacity and the walls of these blood vessels to become inelastic and causes the blood that leaves the heart to flow that is not smooth. Treatment for hypertension sufferers can also be done non pharmacologically or using traditional medicine, one of which can use chayote. Chayote can lower blood pressure because chayote contains potassium. Potassium is a mineral that is good for lowering or controlling blood pressure. The aim of this case study was giving chayote juice to reduce blood pressure in hypertensive elderly. This type of research is descriptive with the case study method. The subjects of this study were two hypertensive elderly patients with blood pressure more than 140 - 90 mmHg and able to communicate. The results of the case studies show that there is a change in blood pressure drop from before consuming chayote juice and after consuming chayote juice, so it is hoped that the elderly can consume chayote juice regularly.

In Indonesia, hypertension is the third leading cause of death, following only stroke and tuberculosis. It is a degenerative condition in the elderly, and with growing age, nearly all feel a rise in blood pressure. Taking an infusion of rosella flowers (Hibiscus sabdariffa Linn) in the morning and evening will reduce blood pressure. Contain phytochemicals that can help lower blood pressure. This study aims to see how successfully giving rosella flower infusion (hibiscus sabdariffa linn) against hypertension in the elderly at the Matraman District Health Center. The experimental one-group pre-and post-test configuration with control was used in the analysis. The sample size was 10 people and used comparative analysis with paired t-test using computerized statistical software. The results showed that the decrease in blood pressure using the infusion of rosella flowers was smaller than the amlodipine treatment. This indicates that steeping Rosella does not have a significant effect on hypertension.

Background: ‪The aim of this work was to examine the extent to which cardiorespiratory fitness, blood pressure, and optimism/pessimism predict adults’ satisfaction with life. Material and methods: ‪Sixty-eight adults seeking cardiovascular health screening in a private clinic were tested. Participants’ blood pressure, optimism/pessimism, and satisfaction with life were recorded. The YMCA cycle ergometer test was used for estimating participants’ aerobic fitness (VO2 max). Based on 140/90 mm Hg blood pressure cut-off value, participants were classified into two groups. Results: ‪A bootstrapped hierarchical multivariate regression analysis revealed that VO2 max, systolic blood pressure, optimism, and pessimism jointly accounted for 46% of the variance (R2 = 0.501, R2 adjusted = 0.462) in life satisfaction. Furthermore, a bootstrapped multivariate analysis of covariance indicated that Stage 2 hypertensives reported lower life satisfaction (p = 0.007) than the others with lower blood pressure readings. Conclusions: ‪This study is the first to reveal that almost half of the total variance in life satisfaction is accounted by cardiorespiratory fitness, systolic blood pressure, optimism, and pessimism. The present work also shows that individuals in Stage 2 hypertension are less satisfied with their lives than individuals with lower blood pressure values. These preliminary findings should stimulate both epidemiological and longitudinal research in the area.

Heme oxygenase (HO) is the rate-limiting enzyme in the metabolism of heme-releasing bioactive molecules carbon monoxide (CO), biliverdin, and iron, each with beneficial cardiovascular actions. Biliverdin is rapidly reduced to bilirubin, a potent antioxidant, by the enzyme biliverdin reductase, and iron is rapidly sequestered by ferritin in the cell. Several studies have demonstrated that HO-1 induction can attenuate the development of hypertension as well as lower blood pressure in established hypertension in both genetic and experimental models. HO-1 induction can also reduce target organ injury and can be beneficial in cardiovascular diseases, such as heart attack and stroke. Recent studies have also identified a beneficial role for HO-1 in the regulation of body weight and metabolism in diabetes and obesity. Chronic HO-1 induction lowers body weight and corrects hyperglycemia and hyperinsulinemia. Chronic HO-1 induction also modifies the phenotype of adipocytes in obesity from one of large, cytokine producing to smaller, adiponectin producing. Finally, chronic induction of HO-1 increases oxygen consumption, CO2, and heat production and activity in obese mice. This review will discuss the current understanding of the actions of the HO system to lower blood pressure and body weight and how HO or its metabolites may be ideal candidates for the development of drugs that can both reduce blood pressure and lower body weight.

Long as the elderly are getting older, the cardiovascular system will experience changes such as arteries losing their elasticity, leading to an increase in pulse and systolic blood pressure. Acupressure is a development of acupuncture therapy that can lower blood pressure; stimulation at the acupressure point causes the release of endorphin hormones which reduce lactic acid production to provide a relaxed and comfortable condition. This study used a pre-experimental research design with a one-group pre-posttest design with simple random sampling, which involved 34 elderly with hypertension. According to the standard operational procedure (SOP), blood pressure was measured with a sphygmomanometer, and acupressure therapy was the standard operational procedure (SOP). Data analysis was carried out using a paired t-test because the data were normally distributed. The results showed that the mean blood pressure before the intervention was 152.35/97.65 mmHg, while after the intervention, the average blood pressure was 140.74/90.59 mmHg. Analysis with paired sample t-test obtained p-value = 0.001 in systolic and diastolic pressures. There were differences in blood pressure before and after acupressure therapy intervention in the elderly at Kediri I Public Health Center, Tabanan Regency. It is hoped that nurses can independently provide acupressure therapy to older adults with hypertension to lower blood pressure.

Hypertension is a cardiovascular disease that has been linked to a number of public health issues. This is due to unhealthy lifestyles and cellular and tissue physiological function impairment. Hydrotherapy is a non-pharmacological intervention that can lower blood pressure. As long as the patient is taking antihypertensive medications, this therapy becomes complementary. This study aims to describe the use of hydrotherapy that lowers blood pressure in hypertensive patients. The research design used is a literature review of national and international indexed journals. The databases used include ProQuest, GALE, OneSearch, RAMA, SINTA, and Google Scholar by using keywords hydrotherapy, blood pressure, and hypertension. Inclusion criteria are the range of publication years is in 2016-2020. While the exclusion criteria is when the independent variable used is a combination therapy. Based on a review of ten articles, hydrotherapy affects lowering blood pressure, therefore this therapy can be used as an adjunct therapy to lower blood pressure. This occurs because warm water dilates blood vessels, lowering blood pressure.
