This paper is a discussion of the potential of using specific drama techniques during English lessons at a Japanese private senior high school. The techniques in focus are process drama and specifically teacher in role (TiR). TiR is a specific technique that is often used in the broader area of process drama. Process drama concerns itself more with the experiential rather than the performance aspect of drama. In it, a teacher, or facilitator, goes into role with the participants in the co-construction of extended role-plays and dramas. Such methods have been used in English language teaching by many practitioners. The methods are discussed in this paper, with the focus on their suitability for teaching in a Japanese senior high school.

It is obvious that the textbooks play a key role in enhancing the quality of teaching and learning. The good quality textbooks must meet the criteria or standard as a textbook. This paper aims to describe the accuracy of materials provided in the Bahasa Indonesia textbook for the first grade of Senior High School curriculum of 2013. This study adopted the content analysis method to analyze the data. The findings deriving from this study reveal that the accuracy of learning material provided in Bahasa Indonesia textbook for the first grade of Senior High School (Sekolah Menengah Atas) curriculum of 2013 published by Erlangga has adequately met the standard requirements of Board of National Education Standards (Badan Standar Nasional Pendidikan, BSNP) for the accuracy of learning material of a textbook. However, this study found some weaknesses in the textbook as follows: (1) The textbook has not provided a ‘Competency Map’ containing principles used by students to achieve their learning goals and understand the learning materials provided in each chapter in order that the materials delivered can be well-structured. (2) The examples provided in the textbook are less relevant to the characteristics of diverse backgrounds and social statuses; contain the issues of ethnicity, religion, race, intergroup relations; and do not suit the needs.   Keywords: Curriculum of 2013, The accuracy of learning materials, Textbooks.

The population of the research were the fifth semester students of Faculty of Literature UMI Makassar in academic year 2018/2019. The sample of the study consisted of 20 students and were chosen through random sampling method. The istruments used were two kinds of instrument namely objective test and questionnaire to acquire data on their analytical capability of the simple past and past perfect tenses. Findings revealed that the ability of the fifth semester students was deemed as fair. This depicts that the students` ability to analyze Simple Past and Past Perfect Tenses is 59, 20 which was condidered as fair. The problems found faced by the students ability to Analyze the Simple Past and Past Perfect Tenses were; (1) sometimes students were confused in analyzing simple past and past perfect tenses due to the lack of basic knowledge, (2) there were many students who did not have rich vocabularies after they graduated from high school, (3) they had forgotten the pattern of the tenses, and (4) students were still having difficulties to differentiate between simple past and past perfect tenses. The implication of this study is that fresh graduates of senior high school are still lacking the necessary requirements to fullfil the standard English language competency which leads to poor language outcome of the Indonesian high schools today. Hence, the study srongly suggests that it is essential to pay special attention on senior high school students’ second language acquisition before continuing their study in Higher Education.
