Lime loss rates were determined for 11 agricultural soils across England (1987–92) under arable cropping (six sites) and grassland management (five sites), receiving commercial rates of fertilizer inputs. Lime additions in the range 0–1500 kg ha−1 CaCO3 (250 kg ha−1 CaCO3 increments) were made annually to the sites. Soil pH (water and 0·01 m CaCl2) and exchangeable calcium concentrations were measured annually. The annual lime loss rates were calculated as the amount of lime needed to maintain the initial site pH or exchangeable Ca concentrations.Lime loss rates based on soil water pH varied between 40 and 1270 kg ha−1 CaCO3, on the basis of CaCl2 pH between 0 and 1370 kg ha−1 CaCO3, and exchangeable Ca between 0 and 1540 kg ha−1 CaCO3. There was a positive relationship between the lime loss rate (based on water pH) and initial soil pH value (r=0·75; P<0·01), and a negative relationship with soil organic matter content (r=0·63; P<0·05) was based on soil pH, organic matter content and nitrogen (N) fertilizer input. Lime loss rates were approximately double those predicted by previous models developed in the 1970s, reflecting the greater quantities of inorganic N fertilizer now being applied to agricultural land.

Abstract. Tony F, Soemarno, Wiadnya DGR, Hakim L. 2020. Diversity of reef fish in Halang Melingkau Island, South Kalimantan, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 21: 4804-4812. Reef fish is one benchmark to determine a coral reef ecosystem's biodiversity. Reef fish communities are important in coral reef ecosystems because of their trophic relationships with other biotic components. The aim of this study was to determine the biodiversity of reef fish on Halang Melingkau Island, Kotabaru District, South Kalimantan, Indonesia. This research was conducted in March-August 2019. Coral reef fish data were collected using an underwater visual census method. Transects were applied as close as possible to the substrate using a 50 m roll-up measuring tape. Three transects were applied at each station. A total of 98 reef fish species from 19 families were recorded in this study. The fish community in Halang Melingkau island belongs to the family of Pomacentridae, Labridae, Chaetodontidae, Scaridae, Haemulidae, Lutjanidae, Scolopsidae, Serranidae, Caesionidae, Holocentridae, Siganidae, Pomacanthidae, Apogonidae, Pempheridae, Scorpaenidae, Tetraodontidae, Blenniidae, Platacidae, and Zanclidae. The highest abundance of reef fish was 1.88 ind/m2, and the lowest was 0.14 ind/m2. The dominance index (C) ranged from 0.03 to 0.13, the homogeneity index (E') ranged from 0.72 and 0.94, and the diversity index (H') ranged from 2.17 to 3.53. Water quality data measurements of temperature, brightness, current speed, pH, and DO (Dissolved Oxygen) were within the tolerance limits of water quality standards based on the Minister of Environment Decree No. 51 of 2004, Republic of Indonesia.

Abstract The quality of municipal water supplies is of fundamental importance to public health and national security. Here, we assess the tap water quality in 31 provinces across China and examine the effects of natural and anthropogenic conditions on water quality and associated health risks. Precipitation is a crucial factor influencing the organic matter content and ionic conductivity in tap water, especially for arid and semi-arid regions. Although the concentration of disinfection byproducts (DBPs) is closely related to the organic matter content, the occurrence of highly toxic DBPs was more significantly affected by anthropogenic factors such as economic development and pollution emission. We confirmed nanofiltration as an effective point-of-use treatment to reduce the adverse effects of DBPs in public water supplies. Since DBPs in tap water is a long-term global problem, our results highlight the potential health hazards of drinking water brought about by social development and conclude that countries and regions with rapid development might face high DBP toxicity.

Morodemak waters are an area that plays an important role in Central Java as a fishing and auction area as well as a densely populated area. However, research on organic matter content and on-site pollution index is rarely conducted. The purpose of this study was to analyze the organic matter content and pollution index and to determine the organic matter content and pollution conditions in the waters of Morodemak, Demak Regency. The material used is sea water that is around Morodemak Waters, Demak Regency. The sample used is a water surface sample taken with a Nansen bottle at a depth of 1 meter. The research method used is descriptive method by assessing the quality of the waters based on organic matter in the waters of Morodemak, Demak Regency. In-situ data collection was then analyzed in the laboratory, as well as a qualitative analysis of the pollution index using the STORET method issued by the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Indonesia. The organic matter content in Morodemak waters is 15.01–15.94 mg / L for low tide and 19.96–21.67 mg / L for high tide. From the determined organic matter content, the BOD5 and COD results as water quality parameters were 241.42–370.19 mg / L and 515,117–792,191 mg / L. The condition of Morodemak waters is classified into polluted waters because almost all the parameters tested have exceeded the sea water quality standard limit for marine biota determined by the Minister of Environment Decree No. 51 of 2004 and passed the STORET index with a water score of> -31.

The water quality status of rivers in Malaysia has always been a cause for concern for various local authorities, government agencies, and the public. The issue is that the traditional method, such as workers, needs to go to each tank or river to collect data. The process set some drawbacks such as labor-intensive, lack of real-time data, and high operation and equipment costs. In this research, the aim is to implement the Internet of Things (IoT) in monitoring and controlling the water quality. The pH and temperature sensors were integrated with NodeMCU ESP82666 to collect water pH and temperature data. This platform is also used to control the servo motor for managing systems. NodeMCU sends the data through the Internet to the Blynk application. Using Blynk, users can monitor live data from the tank, see the data trend, and control the water quality. All the data that has been taken is saved in the cloud database using phpMyAdmin. The connection also used NodeMCU ESP8266, where the coding was written and compiled using Arduino IDE software. This project has successfully achieved its objective where water quality data (pH and temperature) can be monitored, stored in a database, and water pH levels can be controlled using IoT.
