Purpose. The presentation of challenges with which scientific journals and - more broadly - scientific communication, will have to face in the substantive, technological and financial sphere in the conditions of constant evolution of the digital world, dynamic development of new information systems in science (e-library, library 2.0) and new phenomena conditioning the behaviour of Internet users. Method. The views presented in the article are the result of a review of literature regarding scientific journals and empirical research, which was conducted from April to August 2018 among 132 authors representing the world of science and economic practices. Findings. The open access (OA) movement has caused significant changes in the behaviour of people of science in publishing and depositing research results. The prospect of taking over all the functions of scientific journals by scientific repositories still seems to be distant due to the lack of alternative methods for assessing the quality of scientific publications. There are doubts about the division into scientific, institutional repositories and the repositories belonging to scientific journals, which results from unclear business models of individual solutions. The phenomenon of self-publishing is stimulated by the dynamic development of research carried out by business units, skilfully analysing the resources of large data sets and successfully popularising research results in social repositories. This is new quality in the area of information exchange, which requires rapid adaptation on scientific grounds. An insufficiently implemented postulate to popularise scientific knowledge and its transfer to business practice remains an equally important challenge. Research and conclusions limitations. The results of the survey based on the respondents’ subjective assessment should be treated with caution and do not allow to draw general conclusions. The research revealed significant discrepancies in respondents' opinions regarding the future of scientific journals and their prospects for functioning in new information systems. The highest doubts concern the quality assessment system of scientific publications and the business model of scientific repositories: the significant number of stakeholders of the scientific communication system, dispersed in various scientific, political and economic systems, further limits the possibility of formulating unambiguous decisions in this respect. Originality. The presented article formulates challenges for scientific journals whose functions are being increasingly taken over by scientific and social repositories. In contrast to the previously published works, this suggests solutions in the field of artificial intelligence, which will enable complete change in the way of publishing and validation of knowledge as well as quality control of scientific research. Type of work. Review article.

A modification of the PageRank method based on link ranking is proposed to evaluate the research results of subjects of the scientific space, taking into account self-citation. The method of reducing the influence of self-citation on the final evaluation of the results of research activity of subjects of the scientific space is described. The evaluation of the results of research is calculated using the modified PR-q method, taking into account self-citation as a solution of a system of linear algebraic equations, matrix of which consists of coefficients determined by the number of citations of publications of one scientist in the publications of another scientist. The described method can be used for the task of evaluating the activity of the components of the scientific space: scientists, higher education institutions and their structural units. For the task of evaluating the research activity of subjects of the scientific space, a method based on link ranking (PageRank method for web pages) and taking into account the self-citation of scientists is proposed. The latter allows for an adequate assessment, taking into account the abuses associated with the authors excessive self-citation. The essence of the constructed method lies in the construction of a system of linear algebraic equations, whose coefficients of the matrix reflect the citations of some scientists by others in the citation network of scientific publications. The value of the coefficients of the matrix of such a system of linear algebraic equations is subject to certain restrictions, which allow to reduce the influence of the factor of excessive self-citation of the author on his overall assessment of research activity. The described method can be used to calculate the complex evaluation of the components of the scientific space: the scientist, the institution of higher education and its separate structural units. Evaluating research results provides an opportunity to verify the relevance of the research process to the goals identified at the planning stage and, if necessary, to adjust the progress of those studies. Also, the calculation of research evaluations of the components (objects and entities) of the scientific space is a powerful tool for managing research projects.

Open Access to scientific information, transparency of research processes and data is one of the most important conditions for the progress of science and scientific communication, the basis of international collaboration of researchers globally. The COVID-19 global pandemic has once again highlighted the need for open, efficient and equal access to scientific information for researchers, regardless of geographical, gender or any other constraints, promoting the exchange of scientific knowledge and data, scientific cooperation and scientific decision-making, knowledge and open data. The Internet has radically changed scientific communication, particularly on the model of peer-reviewed scientific journals and the way readers find and access the scientific information. Digital access is now the norm, thanks to the Open Access model. Although 20 years have passed since the announcement of the Budapest Open Access Initiative, and despite many achievements and advantages, there are still obstacles to the implementation of this model, there is some resistance from commercial publishers and other providers, and discussions continue in the academia world. The Open Access model is already supported by various strategies, policies, platforms, applications but is not yet established. Various business models for scientific journals are still being tested, a culture of preprints is being formed, and discussions are underway on the ethics of scientific publications, intellectual property, the need to finance the dissemination of research results, and so on. Various platforms and applications are being developed to help researchers “discover” research results. Nevertheless, this is not enough: it is important to “discover” not only the results but also the research data, allowing them be used for further research in the global world. Thus, the concepts and practices of Open Science, Open Data, development of research infrastructures, etc., are developing quite rapidly. The article considers the main stages of this 20-year path and outlines the main components and trends of the current stage. Emphasis is placed on the need to form a culture of Open Science and create incentives for its implementation, promoting innovative methods of Open Science at different stages of the scientific process, the needs of European integration of Ukrainian e-infrastructure development, the need for socio-cultural and technological change. The main international and domestic practices and projects in Open Access and Open Science, particularly the National Repository of Academic Texts and the National Plan of Open Science draft, are considered. The role of libraries and librarians in implementing the principles of Open Access and Open Science is emphasized.

Introduction. There is an urgent need to assess the activity of Advanced Socio-Economic Development Territories (TASED) set up in single-industry towns and Administrative and Territorial Entities of Closed Type (ATECT). The research objective was to identify the current trends in the modus operandi of TASED set up in ATECT. Data and methods. The research featured official figures posted on the websites of the Russian Ministry of Economic Development, on the official websites of local authorities, regional government, Corporation of Far East’s Development, the resident companies of TASED, and various scientific publications. The research was based on comparative analysis and the factor and system analysis. The research results. The population of TASED territories revealed an almost equal distribution. However, its concentration is higher in the towns with over 500.000 residents. The number of residents appeared to correlate with the activity of small and medium-sized enterprises on the territory. Large investment projects in TASED of single-industry towns make up less than 5 % of all projects. The main TASED’s investor is local business. There are mostly low- and medium technology productions. At its current state, TASED do not encourage development of high-technology industries and knowledge-intensive services. The authors propose some options of budgetary efficiency assessment. Discussion and conclusion. TASED proved to be beneficial for the economic development of single-industry towns, especially those with a machine-building complex as core enterprise. However, TASED revealed to have no positive effect on distant depressed towns and single-industry towns with sustainable working core enterprises. The research results can be used by scientists, public authorities, and managers of TASED companies.

Scientific articles are scientific papers of research results communicated in scientific publications, such as journals, magazines, or other publications. In schools, especially teachers who teach Bahasa Indonesia, are required to be able to motivate students to increase their reading interest in literature, because by studying literature students can get various benefits for their lives. Therefore, a teacher is required to be able to guide students to give appreciation for literary works, especially poetry. However, the reality in the field, teachers have difficulty teaching poetry musicalization. Because in addition to a calm understanding of literature itself, an understanding of music is also very important. This Community Service Activity aims to provide students with understanding and provide provisions for the ability to create poetry musicalization as an alternative in appreciating literature, especially poetry. The method used in this activity is in the form of workshops delivered with lectures, question-and-answer, and practical techniques. To find out the extent of student acceptance and understanding, as well as student abilities, at the beginning and end of the training an assessment or evaluation is carried out by filling out the pretest and posttest sheets. Based on the results of the tests that have been conducted, it is known that the participants experienced an increase in their understanding of the concepts of literary appreciation, poetry appreciation, and poetry musicalization from 64% to 100%. Starting from this understanding, students can be more creative in creating a poetry musicalization. Keywords: Literary Appreciation, Poetry Appreciation, Poetry Musicalization

In the Philippines, only a small percentage of research is published in scientific publications. This study aimed to find out the conditions surrounding publication performance of faculty members in universities in Eastern Visayas. Data were gathered through in-depth interviews from 16 respondents with high publication performance (HPP) and low publication performance (LPP) and through analysis of secondary data. Using the grounded theory approach, a theoretical model was generated. Results showed that the conditions leading to HPP were: (1) favorable research environment characterized by low workload in instruction, availability of funding support and research facilities, access to research mentors, and availability of publication incentives; (2) exposure to research during graduate and undergraduate studies; (3) strong peer influence; (4) positive attitude towards publication of research results; and (5) beliefs in the positive consequences of publishing. On the other hand, the conditions leading to LPP were: (1) unfavorable research environment characterized by high workload for instruction, lack of funding support and research facilities, and lack of access to research mentor; (2) academic background not research-oriented; (3) low level of peer influence; (4) negative attitude towards publishing research results; and (5) availability of other options to disseminate research results. Research findings imply that if given a favorable research environment, faculty members can be productive in research and publishing of research results.
