Language teaching and learning has, as a matter of fact, on par with subject teaching and learning, gained importance in universities in view of the tremendous developments in science and technology. Candidates, irrespective of their disciplines of study, are considered potential, if they have language competence. This research paper titled “Strategies for Learning Foreign Languages in Engineering Aspects” begins with an introduction on the importance of enhancing language abilities, discusses, in detail, the existing methodologies in language teaching-learning and the shortcomings encountered by the teachers and the taught in implementing  the methods and approaches. The paper, besides highlighting the academic and professional requirements on the part of the candidates in the global market, lays stress on certain down-to-earth strategies that could be experimented and implemented for the benefit of teaching and learning foreign languages.

This paper provides an overview and discussion of the methodologies used in measuring the impact of tourism. The Danish LINE model is presented, together with the tourism sub-model. The LINE model is an inter-regional macro-economic model describing the economy of 275 Danish municipalities. The tourism sub-model is an integrated part of the LINE model, in which tourism data are built as a part of private consumption. The advantage of building the tourism model within the framework of the inter-regional macro-economic model is that many regional economic indicators can be shown from the impact analysis. Regional tourism demand and the economic consequences are presented as the results of modelling.

AbstractThe Elliott Wave principle is a time-honored, oft-used method for predicting variations in the financial markets. It is based on the notion that human emotions drive financial decisions. In the fight against the COVID-19 global pandemic, human emotions are similarly decisive, for instance in that they determine one’s willingness to be vaccinated, and/or to follow preventive measures including the personal wearing of masks, the application of social distancing protocols, and frequent handwashing. On this basis, we postulated that the Elliott Wave Principle may similarly be used to predict the future evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic. We demonstrated that this method reproduces the data pattern for various countries and the world (daily new cases). Potential scenarios were then extrapolated, from the best-case corresponding to a rapid, full vaccination of the population, to the utterly disastrous case of slow vaccination, and poor adherence to preventive protocols.

Overcoming the current development model, universally deemed unsustainable, requires, in the various Territorial Systems, the implementation of a strategy based on four components which are closely interconnected: Supporting sectors (research, training and communication); Business production and investment models; Household consumption and savings models and No profit Institutions decision-making models. Strategy which, based on policies acting symmetrically on the four components mentioned above, is capable of guiding and supporting the Society towards a growing balance between intra-generational and inter-generational equity. In the present paper, the authors have highlighted the centrality of the Territorial Capital for the achievement of a Sustainable Wellbeing; analyzed the path towards Agenda 2030, which has finally codified this centrality; presented a Circular Economic Model proposed to analyze the determinants of "circularity" of Well-being. Finally, the criteria are defined for an impact analysis of the new policies that are emerging at international, european and national level for building a sustainable future.

Abstract What enabled SARS-CoV-2, but not other coronaviruses, to cause a global pandemic? Here we investigated key structural determinants of the pandemic. Using SARS-CoV-1 and bat RaTG13-CoV as comparisons, we identified two molecular switches that regulate the conformations of SARS-CoV-2 spike protein: (i) a furin motif loop turns SARS-CoV-2 spike from a closed conformation to a mixture of open and closed conformations, and (ii) a K417V mutation turns SARS-CoV-2 spike from mixed conformations to an open conformation. We showed that the open conformation favors viral potency by exposing the RBD for receptor binding and viral entry, while the closed conformation supports viral immune evasion by hiding the RBD from neutralizing antibodies. Hence SARS-CoV-2 spike has evolved to reach a balance between potency and immune evasiveness, which contributes to the pandemic spread of SARS-CoV-2.The dynamics between viral potency and invasiveness is likely to further evolve, providing insights into future evolution of SARS-CoV-2.

The paper deals with the the development of a specific company’s stock price time series. The aim of the paper is to use the time series method for a detailed analysis and evaluation of the development of Apple Inc. stock prices. Daily data from 2000 to 2020, daily data from the period of the economic crisis between 2007 and 2009 and daily data from the Covid-19 pandemic period from March 2020 to the end of the same year are used. The data, from the period of 2000 - 2020 show a gradual increase in Apple’s stock prices. The most common factor leading to the increase in stock prices is the launch of a new product or service on the global market. On the contrary, the reason for the decline in stock prices is customer dissatisfaction, the excess of demand over supply, or the political situation. The analysis of time series for the period of the economic crisis points to the fact that thanks to the development, innovation and constant introduction of new products into the market, the company was not significantly affected by the crisis and neither were stock prices. Naturally, there were some fluctuations in prices, but at the end of 2009, the company even reached the highest stock prices in its history to date. The analysis of time series during the global pandemic of Covid-19 shows a steady rise in stock prices. Currently, the company sells more and more products and introduces new services that help us work, study or entertain ourselves in these difficult times, in the safety of our homes.
